Hi everyone, I’m currently trying to decide on another class to play. I took a small quiz that would tell me a class based on my playstyle, http://www.helloquizzy.com/quizzy/results?quizzyid=2759555769366114094&resultid=399382546 (just copy and paste the link) based on what the result said I’m thinking between ranger and thief. What do you think based on that result? thanks for the replies

I really enjoy my thief and my ranger. I don’t think you can go wrong choosing either one

Quiz link is broken…. But……

Rangers are Frustrating to play on the high end, due to design and trait related issues… I would NOT advise it if you have any expectation for engaging build or game play. I don’t have a Theif, but I’ve heard they don’t have as many options since the Spec update. However, their core design is still intact, so its still worth trying out.

If you want breadth of playstyles, you can’t beat the engineer. With kits their the most diverse class imaginable, and one of my favorites all time favorites. Their also the most viable condi class, adding even more depth of options to how you can mess with them. Even their simpler builds are decently viable now with the strong definitions in the trait lines.

There is one notable catch…… You’re limited to Rifle or Pistol as your main weapons; So Non-kit builds can get a little monotonous, as both weapons feel really sluggish when you can’t swap them on demand. Be even in spite of that, their multitasking and support capability is rivaled only by Mesmers. They’re a little hard to get a handle on at first, because you have to think 3 dimensionally with their builds… but their large skill pool potential, and on demand kit swapping makes them highly adaptable, highly reactive, and highly mobile in all 3 game modes. They also benefit heavily from more Prefix options then any other class to date, and is probably the easiest class to dive into WvW with.

You can learn about them here. Between the build theory and the listed builds, you can tweak it easily to specific situations, broader coverage, or mix in gadgets for more open world fun. (Seriously…. Rocket boots are greatest thing ever)

Ranger is a safer choice in most cases, but it has to wrestle with poor pet management and a lot of aggro from other players. I’m still not sure what I’m doing with them, actually. Their traits don’t seem well synergized, except for maybe two builds.

Thief is higher risk, higher reward, so if you want to feel awesome and witty for kicking much butt, it’s not a bad way to go. Pretty solid even without traits, and I enjoy mine when I play him.

Many alts; handle it!

Just try them…what’s to lose? Of my 32 lvl 80 characters, I enjoy playing my 7 rangers the most…but YMMV!

You must do what you feel is right, of course.
