A couple of questions -

- What sort of thing do you enjoy playing?
- What Game mode are you playing?

There’s no point recommending Ranger if you really dislike playing a pet class. Equally there’s no point in recommending an Engineer if you’d prefer a class that uses swords. If you can answer those two then we can give you a better steer on what class (or classes) may suit your play style.

Hmm i like a charge in class like a guardian or warrior i don’t like thief or ranger because i want to rush into battle and i starting to look into necromancer.

Well, thief certainly can rush into battle, they just need to work a bit harder to survive once they get there.

If you want melee and staying power, Warrior or Guardian might be your best bets. Warrior offers a lot of offensive support, while Guardian offers a lot of defensive support. Warrior is probably simpler, so if you’re just starting out it might be a better choice.

Now, the important thing here is to stick with this class once you pick it. It’s going to take quite a few levels before you get all the skills and abilities that make your chosen class tick. Getting to level 5 or 10 and deciding you’re bored and want to try something else will just lead to an endless cycle of deletion and recreation. Stick it out to level 30, to level 50, beyond that, get all of your ability slots unlocked, start playing a bit with traits as you’re able, and then you’ll have a better feel and understanding for your class, and whether or not it’s for you.

Come play with me sometime when I’m on my Ranger and I’ll show you a charge into battle class :-P

But you’ve pretty much answered your question now. You want an up close and personal sort of class and build and pretty much every class has strong melee options. With that in mind (speaking from a PvE viewpoint) the ones i feel you should probably try are -

Warrior – A pretty solid choice for up close and personal. Plenty of weapons to choose from to suit your style including a couple of cap closers (mainhand sword and greatsword). You can also give some nice offensive buffs with banners/shouts. Hell you can even hit the bad guys with the banners if you want to :-P Biggest downside is everyone and their mum has one and for some people the playstyle can get kind boring.

Guardian – Once again nice for the “in your face” sort of style. You’ve got some gap closers (Sword, Greatsword and Hammer although not so much on the last one) and are able to dish out some serious damage. Also a well played Guard is a boon to any party as you have good group wide condi removal, and can keep people alive with reflects/aegis and other defensive boons. Biggest downside (for me) is you’re slow. I mean really slow! Also you will have a low health pool. Guardians and Ele’s have the lowest base health pools in the game.

Ranger – I know you said you didn’t like it but honestly try Sword/X and/or Greatsword. Greatsword has a gap closer, 2 evades, a block and an interrupt. Sword has 2 evades and some incredible attack speed. Couple Sword with something like offhand Axe and you have a reflect and a pull/interrupt as well. Downside is you are squishier than the 2 above but that’s why you have the evades :-P Also your pet is as dumb as a sack of rocks and you will need to command it. The micromanaging of the pet can be a pain in the kitten.

Necromancer – Well as you’re thinking of trying it, then for you’re “in your face style” then you’re going to want to go mainhand Dagger. This gives you access to a small cleave (2 targets I believe), a life steal ability and an immobilize. With an offhand dagger you also get a condi removal and blindness which can help a lot. Your other choices would be a focus, which has a chill and I believe a boon removal/corrupt, or a warhorn which has self swiftness and an interrupt. In a group you won’t be as useful as the ones above. The best you can offer is group wide protection (when traited), blindness on foes, and group condi removal (by drawing them to yourself).

Hope some of that helps.

Guardian is by far the easiest to play, but there are a TON of them right now if that’s an issue for you.

Elementalist is probably my go-to-suggestion though, they’re both good and in demand and have a lot of dynamic stuff to do in their fighting. Engineers are similar but you don’t really get into the meat of the class for quite a while.

Mesmers, be warned they’re another ‘hard to get going’ class. There are a few talents and skills that are almost necessary to make the class really sing, and you don’t get them until pretty late. On the flip side, you’re going to learn a lot of stuff in the meantime, you really have to play the game early on (as compared to guardian who can kind of punt everything)

I mained a ranger for a long time, I’d kind of stay away from it. Some of the things are cool, but the pets are a huge PITA, and all the rangers I know end up getting so annoyed at them :p

Warriors are even easier to play than Guardians.
And there are TONS2X of warriors out there.

I was maining a thief…then a mesmer…and now have settled on Elementalist. Ele is so much fun, and more than the average spell caster. If you want to be an in-your-face attacker you can go d/d, you can might stack to get the most power you can and then smash things with a lightning hammer, or you can equip a staff and mash things down with a meteor storm. You have easy access to condi clears and healing, so many boons you can apply, auras and lets face it…light armors are some of the loveliest skins in the game (imo of course). Also, this profession teaches you how to play, you have to learn to dodge properly or you face death. And dagger 4 makes map travel a breeze

i have a guardian but i think its going to start getting boring

which should i play
Things about my play style like to charge in to battle and do good damage ,don’t go down so fast like rang and close combat, cool armor and don’t like to support

Also i’m leaning towards thief or necromancer

I’d go with necro, you can wildly change your entire playstyle at higher levels with your trait choices, so it’s always easier to keep fresh.

You can play thieves differently, but not nearly to the degree of ‘maximum death shroud’ vs ‘minion master’ vs ‘max conditions’.

Mhmm, I would have said warrior but if you got bored with a guardian then I don’t really think you will enjoy warrior that much either. Both are great but warriors are arguebly even more boring to play than guardians.

Now, I would say than 1 day is too fast to decided wether a class is boring or not but that’s up to you.

Thief and mesmer are both complex. You may end up dying alot in Pve as a new player and it will generally take you longer time to learn. However, they are both rewarding eventhough I would say they are more popular in pvp than pve.

Thief is an assassin, has the highest melee damage and is REALLY rewarding if played correctly. It is probably one of the most rewarding professions in GW2 if played by a vet, however to reach that understanding of your class, it will take you time.

Mesmer is more of a unique class. I don’t think you have seen something too simliar to it in other MMOs.

They are both interesting to play. If you fan of assassin’s creed, you may want to go with the thief. If you want to try something unique and different, you can try the mesmer. Both classes are hard to play though compared to the guardian and warrior. You may want to give them time before judging.

All of the professions are unique in their own way.
Although I still haven’t been playing that much with Necromancer and Engineer!
I have to do that, although I have already created a few necros and engins already... 2 years ago.
My favorite profession and most playable is Mesmer.

1. Mesmer
2. Elementalist
3. Warrior
4. Ranger
5. Guardian
6. Thief
7. Engineer
8. Necromancer
