What did you DO?!? (Linux)
How is the game on linux at the moment?
I remember the first months it was suffering of low fps, but after i’ve read this topic, i checked some videos….it looks really fluid lime on windows.
The problem is…is it fluid in wvw too? I mean…if it gives nearly the same performance of windows in WvW like i see in pve…i jump the ship now!!

really if the performance is better than when i tried then i’m returning to my ubuntu partition i had abandoned it cause of guild wars 2.

I feel I should point out that the game was never designed with Linux in mind, and ANet has already said that, while there are certainly ways to make it work on Linux, that they were not going to make a client for it nor offer support for Linux OS users. If something is or isn’t working for Linux users, it wasn’t done intentionally.

Compared to Windows, the framerate is lower. I haven’t noticed it at all becoming an issue during WvWvW zergs (I just started playing WvWvW, but it feels no different zerging a keep than it does running PvE or just exploring WvWvW). It’s EXTREMELY noticeable in all dragon and similar fights.
And it seems my post was premature… the BLTP black screen issue is still there, just not constant now – sometimes it populates the graphics, sometimes it doesn’t. Which is odd, considering it works perfectly fine in Mac, which leverages an offshoot of Wine.

Looks like the fork happened in 2002. 10 years of differences in development can certainly make a huge difference.
What do you mean by “black screen”? Even on windows the TP will sometimes fail to load correctly and all you get is the TP window’s background which happens to be mostly black. Although reopening the TP windows usually fixes it.
The TP not working very well in wine is also not too surprising. It’s an external process and most other programs/games won’t be doing it that way so whatever it uses is probably less developed.

Precisely the same thing, it would seem – except it wouldn’t fix itself. I don’t have a Windows machine, so I just assumed they didn’t do that.
Your performance suffers because the linux video card drivers suck. It’s just that simple. It’s always been the case, no matter the game.

No, it isn’t an offshoot of Wine at all.
