The rest I suggest you just jump in and try a bit of everything to see what you might like. I would not suggest using that Ranger until you hear back from support. Personally I would be hesitant to do anything with any characters until support has had a chance to see what is going on.
He would not have gotten the account back if ANet didn’t return it to him. The gold farmer certainly didn’t.
Still it would be a good idea to contact support.
If you intend to delete the hunter do so, it is not a long way to 80. It is good in my opinion to take the longer way though since you get a better feel of what your character(s) can and can’t do in various situations. If you are exclusively running WvW and never plan on PvE keep it.
Usually if you contact the support team, at least what I have heard off. They wil rest your account so it will be the same as it was before it was hacked. They will obviously ask you if that is what you want first but I don’t think they can do much else.
