I discard them as soon as one gets in my inventory. They worth so low that it isn’t even worth selling, occupy inventory space and keys drop once per 300h of gameplay. What is the point of having these on the loot table? Its like this item and trophies were put in the game to pollute already mediocre drops of gw2.

Most will say the point is to entice you to buy keys and this is probably accurate. I buy keys every now and then if I have some gems left over from other purchases.

its enticing when the item feels rare, not when you’re getting 6 chests after an hour of farming champs (which is mostly only 1 enemy killed at a time). I have no idea how could this BLC spam entice anyone.

When a key drops, or I get one as a reward, I open mine. If I should ever get over a stack, I’m not sure what I would do. Probably not keep more than one in the bank.

Delete. I already have a stack of 250, but I keep that stack for a link joke. Not as funny though as like linking dull knife when there is a gear link frenzy in LA. But still, a joke is a joke, and these chests certainly qualify as such.

I delete them. A while back myself and a few others posted the idea to protest RNG boxes as the core form of adding new skins by just deleting every one that appears in game. Not selling them, and certainly not opening them; deleting them.

I’d be lying if I said I knew how that worked out, although I did notice that they at least stopped adding new boxes, and folded the entire practice into the standard BL boxes. Never the less I still delete them, even if I am the only one still protesting.

I’m thinking about using gold to buy keys now. Because they have LB ticket scraps in the chests. But I will never buy keys with real money.

Right now, I keep them in the bank. Once I get to a full stack of 250 I’ll probably start deleting them, since I have a feeling I wouldn’t be able to sell them if I wanted to through the TP.

I’m not exactly sure WHY I’m keeping them, TBH. I will absolutely never buy Black Lion keys, and given the very low number of keys that drop I’d have no problem buying a chest if I ever actually got a key from personal story or something. I guess its just yet another pointless little knickknack I’m keeping, like my Candy Powered Magic Meter.

I’m making a fort out of them. The game sorely lacks couch cushions.

I also destroy them on sight with alts but on my main i just keep them stacked (he has the most space anyway), the way I see it taking up 1 inventory slot is worth saving me 2-3 seconds of deletion time every now and then.

He has 237 BL chests atm and I’ve only had 2 keys drop; been playing since launch lol.

I think you need at least 80-100 MF to see them as drops now. I got them early in the game more often, but mostly stopped other than from personal story. So like I’d get them most often from dailies before they changed dailies to work on ascended trinkets. Back then I had about a full bank bag full of stuff from BL chests, mostly from doing dailies. For drops, I think they mostly started drops when they put in the scrap tickets. Only in MF armor did I see a some BL keys drop from that point. When MF armor was removed, I didn’t see another drop until two days ago as I got my account MF up.

Same. I’m willing to burn a bank slot on them, for when I’m levelling an alt and get a key from personal story reward or something. But only one. Once I hit 250 it will be delete time, it’s not worth the effort of clicking through the TP interface to make 3 copper or whatever they sell for these days.

If I have one on me when I’m out adventuring, and I’m squeezed for bag space, though, that’s an instant delete.

I have added every Anet employee I see to my friends list. When I get 5 chests, I email them to them on a rotating schedule.
Only one Anet employee has been gracious enough to respond, and he sent me some Frostgorge Clams in return. We joked via email about how many we get, and no keys to open them. For his great nature I sent him some Omnomberry Bars, and he was gracious enough to give my Guild a shout out in all chat.

I keep them- i have about 60-70 now.
I do get keys every now and then so when I do, I just open one.
In the beginning it was nice to get the key in the box, you could go on a roll like that and open 10 or more.
I would never actually buy keys with gold or money

I’ve held on to 90% of mine(opened a few) from start(launch) to present, 9+ stacks.

They make excellent door-stops.

I just save them till I need a bank slot for something else at which time I just delete them. I have about 7 stacks now. I do get key drops from time to time so it’s nice to have at least a few on hand.

I throw them in the bank to look shiny. When I get to 250 I sell them and admire my shiny 5 silver sum.

Stack them up in my guild bank until I have a complete stack then sell them for peanuts…

Just delete them as a drop or make them as rare as the keys…a useless drop…

I wonder what would happen if every player starts sending there rubbish drops to Anet employee’s…might improve the loot tables somewhat…

Instant delete. I think if more keys dropped, players would be more aware of the goodies found inside the chests and that would probably spur gemstore sales of keys.

But as it is, with one key dropping less often than “once in a blue moon,” they’re seen as completely worthless. I actually feel angry when I get one — it’s probably the least valuable (permanent) drop in the game.

Store them in the bank. Got a second stack going. And enough alts that I still get keys from time to time for story completes and random places I can’t remember. (Not particularly paying attention.)

I use those keys when I get them and occasionally get booster potions worth using on alts.

Store them in my personal guild vault, as they are not account bound. Then i may dump them on the TP when i rack up a stack or so. I may unlock one whenever i come across a key and have a chest on hand.

I just destroy them and SAB coins when I’m depositing collectables and salvaging items in my inventory.

The thing that gets me the most is that I always think to myself “I bet that would’ve been an exotic or a rare dye if it hadn’t been another bloody BLC/continue coin!” when they drop

Hmmm… interesting. I can’t confirm that though, I bought gems the first month of release, but yes I get BL key drops. They do track whether or not you ever bought gems though, now you will get perks in the in-game mail from anet.

If anything my lower level alts are more prone to drops while my 3 mains get them for map completion or dailies.
my low level alts get stuff like hair makeovers for dailies.

If I delete them, nothing happens.
If I open them (via the rare key drops), I get crap.
If I TP them, it wastes anets storage having to keep them logged on there for eternity, as a reminder of how crap these are >;p

store stack til 250, then sell most of stack on tp then rebuild stack in possibility that they are a useful future item.

I toss them. I haven’t gotten a dropped Black Lion Key in months, ever since they nerfed the drop rate of the keys.

Heh, all i see out of dailies beyond the common stuff are repair canisters and boosters…

I delete them immediately – absolute waste of space, sadly. Chests are supposed to be exciting…but these are the opposite.

Though I doubt she actually plays, probably prefers dealing in a casino, or just staring at her bank statement and giggling.

The point is definitely to make you buy keys, since drop rate is about 500 to 1. I just delete them as other posters have said. Not worth the 2 copper to sell on TP. I refuse to buy the keys (now… I did try for a while but really… biggest waste EVER).

it is the biggest waste ever. the faster ppl stop buying them, the faster anet will stop bs’ing us with rng chests.

I doubt it. I know what the possible drops are and I have a fairly good idea of the drop rates (from the wiki) and it’s just made me more certain I’d never buy keys because it’s not worth it.

It would be nice if it worked like that. I buy gems about once a month, always with real money, and I don’t think I’ve ever had a key drop. I’ve gotten one or two as daily rewards, but other than that all mine have come from personal story rewards.

I have like 50 in my bank. New ones I just destroy nowadays when I get them, they are worth less than junk items that drop from mobs.

I stack them up and open when I have a key. I wish key drops were a bit more common in the game. I have less than 250 because I haven’t had to start a second stack of them.

Exactly. At least you can just press [Sell Junk] and all crappy trophies are gone. BLC should be added to Junk so it sells with useless gray items when you [sell junk] from a merch

I delete if I get more then a stack. Not really worth selling on the Trading Post anymore either.

I used to get keys very very rarely as drops back at launch (I’m pretty sure I got 3 while leveling up to 80 as random drops). Have never seen one since, so the only source really is Personal Story anymore for me. And I’m at the point where I don’t think I’ll ever make any new alts so they will just waste away in the bank.
