What do you think about Controller Support?
GW2 isnt an FPS game nor an RPG/Adv game like DAO or DA2. Combat alone would be a disaster on a controller. And that’s not even touching on the horror of coding the UI to work with a limited button controller.
MMOs and controllers don’t really work together, and it’s far from hard to use a KB+M on a couch; just get aTV tray/table.

I just dont think it would work too well. How would you chat? Have you tried a pop up coffee table or a lap table with small keyboard. I have an HTPC and I use a pop up coffee table.

really? I think you don’t play game with controller at all so you don’t understand that mean play games with controller. I don’t like play games with keyboard. With keyboard I can play like strategy games, simulators (Flight, train and so on). Also I belvie you plau game on you desk, I like to play more comfortable because I can afford ;-). GW2 is game can so easy designed for controller and with controller you can do more actions than with simple mouse and keyboard ;-)

So how you chat in console? ;-) Came on guys. Is many ways how to chat, just use keyboard, or headset ;-)

This is so objectively incorrect that it isn’t even funny, not to mention how poor a control stick is at controlling a camera when compared to a mouse.

should find a way to make it work… huge console market out there or am i wrong ? … according to the last podcast from massively only 15 percent of skyrim players were pc players
People who want to play their MMOs with a controller seem to be just thinking about how to do basic running around solo and allocating attack skills to buttons. You can probably find a way to do most of that fine with a controller, but there is a lot more to an MMO, which requires a keyboard and mouse.
For example, how do you use ground-targeting attacks with a controller? How do you click on a target? How do you participate in any kind of chat? How do you manage your inventory, use items, salvage, change equipment, etc.? How do you search the Trading Post? How do you form a party, use LFG to find a group, or right-click on a party member’s face to Join if you’re in the wrong overflow? How do you intend to change your skills and traits?
Even if you got a controller working for a big of simple combat scenarios, a keyboard and mouse will always be required. You will constantly have to put the gamepad down and go back to keyboard/mouse input.
Considering the way that FF14 works, because of the console set, no thanks.
It is, by far, the most sluggish game I’ve ever played. In order to keep “optimized” people from spamming commands far more quickly than any controller input, nearly all the global cooldowns are 2.5 seconds. It’s maddening to sit there doing nothing while waiting for all my skills to come off cooldown.

same way you do with third party software. Just third party software is not accurate as developers integrate into game.To be honest ground targeting for was better than with mouse. Because you don’t moved accidental like with mouse ;-)
Sad what you even didn’t try it and trying to imagine how it works ;-)
This thread has been posted many, many times. It just isn’t a good idea.
only 15 percent of skyrim players were pc players
The quote above is actually a great example. Do you know why such a low percentage of Skyrim players were PC users? Because the game was designed for controllers – it was horrible to play with a mouse and keyboard and we needed third-party mods for UI changes, etc to make it playable.
Controller support would be possible, but a lot of the game’s UI and systems would need to be re-imagined to suit controllers… and it would hurt the vast majority of players who use their mouse and keyboard set ups.
- Movement
- Strafing
- Camera angle
- Using all 10 skills
- Changing skills
- Chat
- Dodge roll
- Inventory
- Crafting
- Traits
- Trading post
- Bank
- Guild management
That’s just a short list of some of the most commonly used features. Fit all those on a controller. Can it be done? Probably, only just. Would it be easy with the UI set out as it is now? No. Games that have allowed as much as that to be done on controller have had UIs designed for controller use. We do not want that on an MMO so a few people can play with a controller; making it harder for the rest of us to play.
One last thing, you said we can chat using a keyboard or headset:
So how you chat in console? ;-) Came on guys. Is many ways how to chat, just use keyboard, or headset ;-)
In that case, you already have a keyboard with you… use it to play the game. As for the headset, voice chat for /say, /map or /team (in WvW) would be a nightmare. Maybe even in /party and /guild in some cases.

we know that technologies improving and we trying make Computer as Media Center and play on Big screen. Now you can build powerful enough HTPC or play on Steam Console. You ckittene Xbox, PS or other controller on your PC. This game doesn’t have so much active skill slot so why don’t make a controller support. Also I know that some of player tried some software like Pinnacle, Xpadder and other. But is not a same experience if integrate support into game without any third part software. Third party software emulating keyboard commands and it doesn’t good to change stance. So here need developers help ;-). I like this type game to play on big screen than on small, Play with keyboard and mouse on sofa are disaster.

They don’t need redesign whole game. Just leave at is, just that need Controller mode when you plug controller. So is not affect other players. You can do much thing with third party software, but one big disadvantages: it doesn’t have mode. Lets say if you open inventory so so you coming to inventory mode where Left tumbler became Scroll up, down, right and left, and Right tumbler as mouse. When in Combat mode so Left Tumbler movement and right tumbler is like camera view with targeting function. when open map, so you came in map instance where Left tumbler is map movement and right tumbler is mouse cursor. Here is just examples. With third party software doesn’t work well because you to press many buttons at once. So for game designer is more easy to assign controller actions and detect which interface it is and what layer should be ;-)

What wrong with PC? You can’t play games on PC with controller? ;-). But look from another side why I need to have so many devices at room. PC can do more thing than console and graphic is better on PC than on console. Until you can play 4k games its takes another 4 years until new console realise. With PC you can play straight away if your game is capable.

It’s an MMO, where looking around and having awareness about what’s around you is hugely important. Look speed is especially important here due to the godawfully low FoV.

In every MMO speed are important. So you buying better Keyboard, or Mouse or controller. It’s a same thing. But one difference is how comfortable you want player and what game-play style you like. I am sitting 2 meters away from PC, so if I need to play with keyboard and mouse so cables have to cross room. WiFi keyboard and mouse aren’t good as controller PS3 ;-). I played GW2 with controller and third party software. It was amazing , but few thing: need to improve: combat mode and menu mode (map, inventory). Only this can do developers.
Also you will attract even more players who loved play games with controller ;-).
I’m gonna get the Steam Controller as soon as it comes out and try it on GW2.

the problem is the amount of buttons you need for gw2
The OP, doesnt need invatory tab since the controller is still a touchpad mouse
Chameleon Dude list is still too short
Other movement such as 180 camera turn.

The information they are using is from boxed sales only, not digital sales. Nobody has released information of how many digital sales Skyrim had. So of the Boxed sales, 15% of the boxed sales were for the PC. Digital sales for PC games have eclipsed physical sales. Total sales for Skyrim, PC version was easily 30-33% of the sales among the 3 platforms it was released on.

Is not that big deal with buttons. 5 weapon skills where most of time using and 1 is healing, 3 utility and 1 ultimate. And is plenty way how to assign ;-)
