I’ve been wondering what other players think of the fact that content updates have shifted to this living story style of content which results in temporary content. That is to say you have content that you can do for a set amount of time, and then it no longer exist.

Personally, I’m not sure I like it. While I enjoy Flame and Frost and the systems, I think it would have been nice for a full dungeon to be added that would stick around, or for that time to be spent on new gear sets, or new fractals, or the like. The biggest issue I see with the game is solid content; and while they are expanding on it, I don’t like that a rather large chunk of development time has been spent on something that’s just going to go away.

This also partly applies to the Super Adventure Box. Yes it’ll return, but it’ll be removed for now which means that’s just less to do in the game.

Yes other content was changed over time and added to the game aside from Flame and Frost, but I think it’s fairly safe to say that if Flame and Frost didn’t exist, we’d have had more permanent content in the Flame and Frost months.

However, my views are not everyone’s and I’m wondering what you think. Do you like the thought of a story oriented content patch series where only people playing at the time can see it? Meaning you’ll have unique gear that nobdoy else can get and have experienced parts of the game nobody else can? Or do you think you’d prefer solid content, something that doesn’t go away.

I think it is a shame that it will only be temporary, but at the same time it can be more appreciated this way. Things tend to stagnate rather fast.

I think it gives a nice feel of a real living world…
But I’m all for the new dungeons becoming a fractal (with some adjusts) so we can keep the challenge part of it in the game permanent.

The fractal addition would be great. Perhaps a more condensed version with the jetpack loot removed, so that we could still revisit the place and at the same time, make the fractals even more diverse.

People don’t run CoF p1 over and over because it’s like a roller coaster ride and as soon as it’s done they say “that was so much fun, I want to do it again!” They do it because it’s a fast and easy way to make coin, once you get the routine down you barely have to think about it any more. If something easier were to come along, it would be abandoned and forgotten.

Old content gets “farmed” for a while, then forgotten. Unless there are daily quests or some other reason to go back to old content it is eventually abandoned by older players because it’s familiar and there is no challenge any more, and new players have trouble finding groups to explore with because no one wants to go back into it.

Because Anet is actively “anti-farm” it makes sense to remove old content after their players have a chance to run it quite a few times but before everyone puts it on farm status. The code isn’t destroyed, it can be brought back later for nostalgia reasons or for newer players to enjoy.

I think temporary content is a blatant ploy to squeeze money out of people. Why ever make legitimate repeatable content when you can make time constrained RNG alleviated by the in game shop to make loads of money?
