What do you think will happen to GW2?
I think sales will grow but maintain about the same number of active players it has now.
Maybe if expansions are released and the game world grows rapidly enough to garner some lasting hype (meaning the content lives up to or near expectations) I think the game could see a large influx of new lasting players.
they’ll ride out the current software and bubblegum installments.. showcasing big events when they pool their resources.. they’ll eventually pump out a mediocre expansion and push hard with advertising.. and i think they will be the end of the franchise for awhile, unless they fortuitously trip over someone with a whimsical interest and huge resources..
I don’t think it will necessarily grow in active players, I think its peak was quite some time ago. It fills a niche and won’t be dying or anything like that.
I’m not entirely convinced they can produce a good amount of content as time goes on. I guess that really depends on what kind of things are being worked on in the background.
It won’t be a world of warcraft and it won’t be a elder scrolls online. Its a swtor or ff14, which is more than okay.
good thoughts, all of you. yea it seems that they arent making any great improvements. maybe they arent getting enough funds from the money that GW2 gets? sadly a lot of that money goes to other games as well, like Aion or w/e the name. at the end of the day, its mostly arenanet’s fault, in companies in you dont push ur product, ESPECIALLY when that product has shown such intensely positive feedback, then you wont get anywhere. the living story, only provides minimal entertainment. the LS is something that should be there as a small short quest that u do for fun in this game, sadly its their MAIN focus. everytime i log on, i feel that i logged back into the game the same way it was when i bought it over a year ago. =/
For something to happen with Guild Wars 2, I think ArenaNet really have to stop with their experimenting -all the time- and actually take the game in a direction and give us content so we know if we want to put the game to rest or not.
If they keep doing what they’re doing, I think the game will fade out in a couple of years. If they bring out an expansion, or make some huge changes in their policies, then it could still be huge.
Basically, the game started with an incredible base game and had a lot of prior fans and interest. Rather than take it beyond that, they’ve just let it circle for two years whilst annoying a lot of their fans. Still a very good game, because the base was so good, but a lot of potential has been wasted, and the initial momentum has now gone. It isn’t impossible to get it back, but not like this.
gem store sales will remain (people love aesthetics), content will remain sloppy and short lasting, bugs will continue to grow and/or be ignored, dev’s will try to calm us down and fail because the fire just hasn’t been put out for years now.
I’d hope for some changes to their direction but it’s been a steadily declining experience for me for months now. Nothing exciting to even spectate and balance is very slow moving.
Why can’t numbers be tweaked every month? No one is asking for a “wac-a-mole” approach.
pve: bored
wvw: very bored
pvp: bored and disappointed from wasted potential.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
I think its “growing” days are over for the most part. They would need to renew the good will and excitement of their fans. And advertising campaign would help too, ..but they would preferably need something pretty noteworthy to be hyping.
I’m personally responsible for a lot of people who purchased this game because I convinced them to. And I know at least some of them lead to more purchases still. I know I’m not the only one who can say that too.
Excited word of mouth from fans can go a long way. But I don’t think that happens as much as it used to. I know I don’t try to sell people on it anymore. There are other games that get talked about, but this one is more past tense. I don’t feel like I have anything to get excited over anymore. I know nothing about what their plans are beyond the next tiny story patch. And if their past many patches are any indication what they have in store for us ..I just don’t have the honest enthusiasm anymore.
New players come from somebody (advertisement, friend, etc) convincing them that it would be worthwhile to invest in ..not just money, but time. When veterans lose the will to bother convincing anyone anymore, that’s not a good indicator of a bright, growing, prosperous future.
Even on the top tier servers, WvW barely queues anymore, and even on reset night they fade away pretty quickly. I think we all know that didn’t used to be the case. Megaservers put on a good show but I think the reality is people are losing interest. Maybe they take a long break. Maybe they find a new game and never look back. In any case, there is a trend to be seen, and the way things are been going, there is no reason to think that trend is going to reverse or even slow down. Why would it? Anet isn’t giving it any reason to. So that is what we have for the foreseeable future.

The last person I managed to convince to buy the game, I told them about SAB. It was a great way to show how inventive and open minded the game design was, and that it had new and interesting things to offer.
I didn’t play GW1.
If people manage to play GW1 for 8 years, I don’t see GW2 having problem to run for a long time.
The slow decline in population will continue, until the line where they snowball when most of your friends that you play with are gone. Returners players will return for less and less time, they leave when they see that after months or year nothing has been done. And why the studio that made a succesfull game in 5 years stopped completely working on it since its launch will remain a mysterie.

You fail to take into account that new players join every day, with millions of new players making up the recent China release.
And they still have Korea, Russia, Southeast Asia, Brazil to launch to.
Game isn’t going anywhere for a while; and once they figure out how to sustain through the gem store without ticking off the playerbase, they should be fine for years to come.

I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.

We know that game isn’t going anywhere, no work is done on it since launch.

dude i have seen horrible and insanely bad super F2p games run to this day, since like 2006. its not about THAT, and it will never be about THAT. its, will the game ever go anywhere? no1 wants to stick along for a game that never improves.
