Once they reach level 80 are they camped at a jumping puzzle or at a harvesting node? Or is there another use for them I can’t think of.

Well I used my alts to get alternative personal story (yes I completed PS on all 5 of my toons), get cultural armor, working on world completion on one of them atm. But for new content, dungeons, LS and such I use my main.

I guess it is a matter of how you feel about them and how you like to play. Most of my alts just sitting in character selection screen and thats it.

I started all of mine to have one of each class, so that I could learn about them all and to also see the different story lines each race has to offer. Now, most of them just sit in random places unless I decide to use them for dailies (which happens fairly often). I switch between my necro (my main), warrior, and guardian for dungeons and world events.

I did a lot of different stuff with my Alts.

- At first i used them for crafting profession. (My first 4 character are maxed in their respective crafting profession).
- After that I used them for different dungeon. For exemple, my elementalist was always at the entrance of AC, my Mesmer for CoF, etc. They were useful profession for the dungeon and i liked to do these dungeon with that particular profession.
- Then i needed a lot of Glob of Ectoplasm for my Ascended Shiny back item and my first legendary, so almost all my character was at CoF for a lot of dungeon token (but this don’t work anymore since the dungeon reward don’t work that way anymore)
- Anyway i had enough glob so then i needed AT LOT of orichalcum for my legendaries, and Mystic Forge unique weapons (like Vision of the Mists). So several of my character were next to Ori nodes for some quick gathering each days.
- But then i had enough orichalcum and I started to have some specific build for each my profession. So now i have my Guardian as a main for a bit of everything. I have my Warrior, Elementalist and Mesmer full DPS for Dungeon speed run, my Engineer for WvW roaming and sPvP, my necromancer will eventually be for WvW and my Ranger will stay in his hole because i don’t like it.

I have 12 characters at the moment, here is how I use them:
1. Learn how each profession work, also, variety in playstyles is a great way to fight fatigue and boredom. I build each of my characters differently.
2. Do different things with different characters, others are used in dungeons (sometimes specific dungeons – Ele in AC, Guardian in Arah etc), others are used in PVP, others are used in WvW and so on, instead of having multiple builds, I use multiple alts instead. For example I have 2 Thieves, one is my main for dungeons and fractals and I use the other one in PVP.
3. Crafting is far easier with multiple characters, no need to pay to switch disciplines all the time. Also, map completion offers loads of mats, if you know which map to finish and have some luck (to get what you actually need).
4. Gathering is easier with lots of alts, nodes are character bound
5. Getting more achievement points, access to all weapons, access to all the stories (with different races too), profession specific pvp titles etc make achievements easier.
6. More storage space… with high enough pvp rank, you can have loads of storage space for “free” (Just 300 glory for 18-slot bags is a steal)

I have no chars parked at JP chests atm

I have all 8 classes all with world complete and all have finished their stories. It’s pretty much what you said, I have all 7 alts parked up in Frostgorge at the North Eastern most WP and I scout just that area once per day to find any Ori/Ancient wood and gather it on each of them. That 25-ish of just one of them or both sure adds up each day over time.

That’s all they are good for until/if expansions with more stories come to beat and/or more lands with hearts/explores come to do all over again.

However I do have my ranger set as my farmer if I ever feel like doing that, as I find they are great in PvE for farming (stalker cat takes one enemy, I take the other and they both go down in a matter of seconds).

Oh yeah, and if anymore classes/races come you know I WILL make new chars and complete the world explores and stories on those too lol.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

I have 13 characters and one spare character slot that will soon become my fourteenth when I make up my mind what I want. I do have a main character who is my first created and she will always be my favourite, but the others are important too. I have one parked on top of a jumping puzzle but I do miss playing with her so her place will be swapped with another soon.

All mine are L80 and all are in various stages of their personal story and map completion. I want to complete both on all my characters so I see myself playing this game for a long, long time.

I get fixated on one character for a while so she inches forward in both exploration and story but then I change over to another. It keeps the game fresh for me and I don’t mind doing the same heart quests and vistas over and over. It helps that my memory is flaky at best

I only have 2 chars at 80 – the Ele I play the most but very rarely the Warrior if I get bored. I either go back to the Ele after about 30 minutes or log out.

The other alts sit there on death row, unloved and unfed (hey there’s something anet could implement – food and loves and cuddlez for your alts, like those idiot Tamagotchi things in the 90’s) where they continue to gather dust until I either decide to craft another Ascended weap (not going to happen) or nuke one of them to make a profession I haven’t properly tried yet.

All classes seem luckluster after Ele… I’ve been spiled with their aoe and fun level. Other classes almost seem fun but it feels like mostly single target damage and I find this tedious.

I rotate through playing each of my characters, depending on what I am in the mood to do or what kind of powers I want to be using. I’ll always prefer my mesmer over the others, I think, but for me it’s not about a main and alts so much as it is about exploring everything and running a team.

It was even tougher in GW1 to claim I liked one over the others. I think it often depended on when you asked me, as I might be in the middle of a ranger kick or laughing maniacally as I spread SS over everything or wailing on people with scythes, etc. (or, dare I say it, healing on a monk or rit or ele or whatever!)

I do know that my engineer, who I’ve put off leveling forever, is going to do a lot of sitting around. That’s one class I have not enjoyed nearly as much as the others.

Heh, let’s say that the main reason I created any of my characters (with the exception of my first one, the Elementalist) was because I wanted to know how to beat certain classes against which I had problems while roaming in WvW. Then I found a role for each one of those.

Ele: WvW Raids with guild + some Dungeons
Thief: Roaming in WvW (mostly solo) + some raids with guild
Mesmer: PvP + some Dungeons + some Roaming in WvW (mostly Solo)
Ranger: PvP + some Roaming in WvW (with groups) (it’s the character I use the least)
Engi: solo Roaming in WvW (after my new Necro, I have almost stopped using it )
Necro: solo Roaming in WvW + PvP
Guardian: raiding with guild (rare) + Commanding in WvW (rare)

1) To have the ability to switch when Anet decided to nerf your main class into the ground.

2) For completeness sake I want to have one of each class at 80

3) To have the ability to buy all cultural armors and get the title

4) So you can harvest more ori and ancient wood nodes per day

5) Some dungeons are easier to do with certain classes

6) To have some variety in gameplay

7) Cause having a lineup of pretty characters looks nice and inviting when you start the game

8) Cause I rather have a single set of armor per character and a lot of characters, than having multiple soulbound sets for one character in case you want to switch build, half of which go unused

The only thing that annoys me is that it costs an arm and a leg to get ascended kit and it is almost impossible to outfit all of them

To have versatility in roles in WvW. My guardian or warrior for a frontline tank, my ele or necro ranging from the backline (though my necro isn’t 80 yet, getting there). I also PvP with all my toons to learn how each class works.

It’s a good thing armor in this game doesn’t cost anything, or else I’d have a hard time gearing my toons up

I have an extra slot for pvp also.

I main on ranger. One time our group was having a hard time in a dungeon and they had me switch to ele…so I could summon an Ice Bow…can you guess which dungeon where you need an ele with an Ice Bow is for?

The idea of an Alt was to use them, for those unexpected events or situations that you didn’t plan for.

Hence why I had ten level 20 characters in the original Guild Wars, with all the primary skills of each profession + all locations unlocked on each and every last one of them. Why? Well, for whatever was needed, wherever it needed to be.

Same thing in Guild Wars 2 for me. Just…taking a lot longer.
