I played GW2 since release to about summer. Got “been there done that” and amassed as much skins as I could. I loved the game then but I find there is little to return to.

It’s not that I feel like I am missing out on the temporary content. Not too excited about having to kill an NPC with a background story slapped on, using the same old traits and skills that I can recite on the spot (attacks unlocked since lv 10 maybe). Or spend more time farming gold and punching in credit card info for new skins.

Where is the progression? What impact is there on my character if I complete LS after LS? From what I’ve caught up to on the update notes, the answer is skins.

The ultimate reward you get by playing Guild Wars 2 is skins. Skin Wars 2 is an old joke but more literal as time proved.

I guess I’m here because the game showed so much potential. Such smooth combat flow and systems in place, hitbox and projectile detection, etc. But it just feels like the same game one year ago. Couple moderate trait shifts and balances (does a 5% dmg increase on a trait really makes you want to use pistols more?), NPCs came and gone, just you know, more skins.

And what ever happened PvP? A big part of online gaming as it has highest replayability and each fight would feel different. Content aside, what progression awaits there? Skins.

A fart in the wind, be that as it may, what does everyone feel about the direction of the game and updates?

Well I really hate zergstuff like last 2 updates did, althugh Nightmare Within was half instanced so I did some of it and then never touched it again. Now I’m really excited for fractals as I really like fractal and do it whenever I know that I have time, around lvl 30 now so guess will be lvl 30 after update. I really liked Zephyr sanctum because I’m FAN of puzzles and cutthroat was also a blast with its Aspect Arena and Hunger Games. Since then no, nothing really much except for halloween. I didn’t really like SAB because of coin system and didn’t have much time too to get them. so I’m really excited for upcoming one.

Although every update doesn’t suit me (such as the upcoming one), I know it is content others like. What does suit me is that I don’t have to wait long for something different to be released. So, overall, I am pleased with the direction of the game and updates. (Part of the practically silent minority/majority – take your pick.) = )

There have been suggestions for years man, what are you reading?

When we got ascended gear, people complained and some offered up solutions. Simply infuse exotics with AR, and be done with it. Why create a new tier, and a massive grind for this gear?

When LS became a cornerstone of the game, people complained saying the cadence is too fast, the story is too disjointed, all we have are achievement grinds and the world doesn’t feel any more alive than it did. People offered up solutions. Instead of two weeks of small story content, give it to us in 1 or 2 month bits with more story and content. Instead of an achievement grind, give us actual content like hearts, dynamic events, etc.

There definately has been suggestions, and Im not even talking about the massive CDI thread that exists.

To the OP: you are correct about everything there. If you don’t like the LS, if you dont like achievement grinding, or WvW..theres not a lot for you. The open world doesnt offer anything that a single player Skyrim doesnt, since no one plays in a zone that isnt tied to the LS.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

I am not sure you can say no one plays in zones unconnected to the LS, as I do. But, it is true that for a few days after release day, the new content has a high population of players….and then they return to wherever they were before.

The suggestion posts have died out over time too. Not sure if they’d do any good after all its only our opinion. Game is going its way pretty solid so far.

I’ve made more than one before. The usual stuff.

-More gameplay changes (skills, systems, traits additions which they’ve promised).

-More permanent challenging content (take one week to grind and beat an easy NPC is hardly rewarding), like the pile of dungeons and paths they have, sure be nice if people actually ran them or had a reason to.

-Rewards besides skins. What do I have in mind? The things above would be cool.

-Content that proves the game has progressed. This is a game not a episodic TV show, I don’t get excited anticipating which new villain will pop up, harshly spoken, the story just won’t be as good as House or GoT. I get excited if I have 5 new ways (skills/wpns) to dispatch those villains. You know, new ways to play the game.

-PvP. I love PvP. I’m sad PvP feels like separate game. No rewards no progression. Need to tie in PvP characters to our “actual” characters. I hope it’s not considered a minigame.

Again just my opinion. Not bashing on folks who enjoy the game. I made the post to see what everyone thinks.

Instead of two weeks of small story content, give it to us in 1 or 2 month bits with more story and content.

There definately has been suggestions, and Im not even talking about the massive CDI thread that exists.

1) Want to ask you the same thing.

2)Massive grind, I play maybe 5-10 hours a week and have a legendary, along with ascended of trinkets and offhand weapons. Have you tried other games that offer a subscription, that is a massive grind.

3)A-Net has the numbers on the LS content, they even told why they went this route, numbers show that with new 1-2 monthly content people burn through it in 4 days then stop playing for 1-2 months. With the 2 week updates even if the people burn through it in a fraction of the time, say 1 day, they will most likely play for another 2-3 before stopping and waiting for the next update. Which happens to be in less than 2 weeks.

4.1) Suggestions yes, but you have to remember suggestions on forums are in the majority of people unhappy with content. They come to the forums as a way to express that they are unhappy, if you have 1000 people playing the new content in a game and 10 on the forum complaining about the new content, what would you do?

4.2) As a developer you have to remember there are many people playing it. But then you have to wonder if the people playing it are actually enjoying it or just playing it, which can be a hard thing to measure. You could look at time logged into the game during a new content release, which after many months of having new content each 2 weeks you would have a good representation of log in times. Using something like this is a great way to judge enjoyably of new content, if people are staying logged in for 10% more time than the last content, one can assume that the content is more enjoyable than the last set. But again the time taken to complete the content needs be taken into account. Providing content that takes relatively the same amount of time to complete would be the best way to then judge log in times.

4.3) In the end you say how so many suggestions have been posted, but you have to realize that more goes into the development consideration than “X on the forums is saying this needs to happen so lets do it”. On top of this turn around time from Idea to going live in production can be such a process, but i wont even go into the steps for that.

My Suggestion: you should never ever take away legit Progress from ppl in a game!

what you expect are ppl suggesting if they say hey we just delete all your Progress… actually saying and complaining it is a bad move is the Suggestion to not make the move… because they would loose all of their credibility if they as FIRST MMO EVER DELETE LEGIT PLAYER PROGRESS!

@Zypher

I agree with some of your points. Game don’t feel like a grind to me. I don’t think the complaints about ascended gear is valid. Very easy vertical progression if any compared to top pool of MMOs.

LS does make financial sense as it makes their average log-in numbers look good to the decision-makers. And skins are rewards because people love buying skins. The micro-transactions are probably making them a hefty profit much more than a subscription would.

But I’m not their accountant or their executive. Spoken in extremity, I sit here playing their product and I am simply demanding better quality content. Not just something shoved to make cash and statements look good.

True that forums are a place to “complain”. But I try to be impartial aside from reasoning my own opinion of what would make the game more fun. I’m not here to flame anything or anyone. I want more gameplay additions. Skills, weapon types, utilities. More challenging stuff, new fractures looks great. And so on.

And yes it’s not going to matter much as I’ve initially stated. But I still get some satisfaction that others may agree with me, or insight on why they’d disagree. Fancy way of killing time. Not hoping to impact the game much.

Yeah, there have been a good number of quality suggestions on the forums, which i think is great for developers. I just wonder about the people saying that the LS is horrible and that they should change it. I think A-Net has the numbers and knows what is working and is not working, which is why I continue to play. Each content for the last couple keep getting better and better IMO. But again I am just one of who knows how many, so even though I like the last couple there could be many that do not.

At some point I wish the numbers would be posted, but that could end up causing so much headaches for having to explain what every detail means to the people. You can already see what mentioning what the numbers have shown on the BLT topics. I think there is a few threads every day where people are talking about how the market is corrupt. Then John posts some of the numbers, and people go into crazy mode coming up with the strangest ideas even when he tells them what the numbers mean.

DusK.3849 has a very valid point because Anet has said repeatedly that negative feedback is fine but largely goes nowhere if you can’t give constructive criticism- that implies a suggestion on how it can be fixed. Otherwise what you are saying basically comes down to whining.

As for the OP
I play the LS sometimes but less atm because I couldn’t care less for AP’s or zerg farms.
Some of the updates have been great for me.
Mostly I will check in, see if it to my taste and if it is not go back to what I was doing.

As for “skinwars” that was sort of the point – I don’t care for gear/stat progression/ raised level cap and all that at all.

I would love new traits and skills and I believe those are on the way- I don’t however feel limited in my choices now because I think the simplicity of the system lends itself to being easy to pick up and time to master.

I have played since the betas and I still love the game because I can always find something fun to do and new ways to challenge myself if I wish.
It all basically depends on what I feel like doing when I log on.

This. This right here. If you bought the game expecting a typical MMORPG “endgame” or endless stat progression and are somehow shocked that GW2 doesn’t have that, it’s as logical as buying Street Fighter IV and being shocked that there’s no eight-way run.

Learn about the games you plan to buy before you buy them, people.

A fart in the wind, be that as it may, what does everyone feel about the direction of the game and updates?

the direction of the game has done a 180 in terms of many things they advertised and wanted to offer to players. professions and gameplay are shallow, and most of the development effort goes towards slapping on gear stat grinds as the only form of character progression and temporary living story content to keep players grinding and distracted. both of these things are designed to be the driving force to generate gem sales.

they are nice enough to provide us a forum to discuss things and ask for feedback, but it does not matter much because they seem to do whatever they want and randomly implement experimental bits of incomplete systems (see ascended gear) anyway. this game does not to appear to be for the player, it seems designed as a cash machine that currently gives back as little as possible. you can argue against this, but then someone explain how we went from “we want a real sense of progression” and the advertised “cosmetic grind only” to what we have going on today?

if someone would have asked me a long time ago how I thought things would be a year into live, I would not have imagined describing it as… over itemized zerg grindfest where heroic combat mostly revolves around autoattack and dodgeroll to earns bits, pieces and parts of rewards, so you can sit in front of crafting stations for hours to create your statistically superior “character progression” items.

i do like parts of this game and it has potential, so i’m hoping for a development mentality turn around and a strong reinvestment for players that more closely matches the original design intent that was advertised.
