What ever happened the super-rare?
Just because it’s rare doesn’t make it legendary. Just makes you a lucky person.
Personally, I think part of the issue is combining farming and RNG into the same system.
Engineer
I agree. Legendaries are a bit “common” now.
But this is not something that needs to be adressed yet.
What’s sad is legendary precursors have become more common then rare yellow items at least from an open world PVE farming point of view. Rare items don’t even drop from dragon events for me anymore which begs the question, why do any of it.
Big event chests don’t drop anything, hidden chests from caves and jump puzzles don’t drop anything, veterans/champs don’t drop anything, so what’s the point of playing if you can’t get the mats you need? I think it would have been fine had they given us nothing from the start but they actually allowed us to get loot in the beginning. Heck even mf worked on chests, and events. now it’s trash after trash drop.
someone said it was like this in GW1 but I doubt it people wouldn’t waste their time.

Out of curiosity what ballpark percentage of the population do you see having a legendary?

I’m on one of the top 10 most populated servers, I’ve seen three since beta. And yet some people still say they’re not rare enough. I swear, some people are just so elitist they’ll only be happy if they are the only person in the game something or other has ever dropped for. It doesn’t even matter if it’s complete kitten, so long as he or she is the only person that has it.
We do NOT need this game to turn in to WoW. I can’t remember which one it was in WoW but there was a mount, that on average, three people had on any given server. Hundreds of thousands of players on each server, an average of three drops server. That’s not ‘special’, that’s moronic. It doesn’t belong in GW2, or in any game where the developers are sane and have any respect for their playerbase.

About 2% on Tarnished Coast dungeon runs. (means about 1 out of 50 endgame players)
I play WvW exclusively. Please join me there and you will realize how rare some items are. I might get one yellow item every three or four days, if I’m lucky.
That being said, in pretty much every zerg of like thirty or more people, at least one person seems to have a legendary…and that is just the ones I notice (twilight, the bow, the staff). May be more, since I don’t stare at what people are using much.
Its not hard for kids to get legendaries when they use mom’s credit card to buy gems and transfer those gems to gold.

More good news for the seller who spent time crafting them if some “kid” decides to blow 500 to 9000 gold for cosmetics. Agree?
Legendaries trading hands is not relevant to its rarity however.
This question stems from so many people wanting Legendaries to be more accessible; saying, for example, things like “The precursor is the only thing holding me up!” Yes, that is because the precursor is the very rare aspect of having a Legendary weapon.
The precursor is holding me up…not because it won’t drop, but because I don’t have enough gold to buy it off the TP.
I hope that answers your follow-up question.

So clearly no working adult could EVER do this right?
That aside, the people with legendaries are those that have the means and desire to get them, in addition to the drive to play AFTER they get them however because of the population flux and differences in play time/play area of the game, you can expect ~0.5-2% of the population to have a legendary (within the next year). However, some legendaries are more legendary in rarity than others, the great swords are the most common by far, and in my opinion the “lesser” weapons (MH only) are the rarest like the scepter (best looking legendary IMO) and mace. Hell, I only saw the hammer today for the first time.
I am anti-censorship, for it doesn’t make sense to pander to a minority.
