What happened to suggesting gaming breaks?
That message was added because someone died in Korea playing a video game for like 3 days straight (I do not know what game they were actually playing) If I remember correctly, they didn’t really stop to eat, drink or even go to the bathroom and collapsed and died later.
Edit: I think this is the story…I thought it was in Korea, guess it wasn’t.

There are several of these types of stories.

In other words, get up and do stuff required to live once and a while.

Well I do remember them but really, there’s a clock in the UI so if you need to be reminded to watch the clock, then set an alarm on your mobile phone or something.
I think a lot of people might actually find it annoying.
Different developers, different company goals. And yes, what Ubi said … it was a guy playing WoW. Died – no one else noticed until his 23 hours was up and they checked on him.

I think it was Starcraft he was playing, but I could be wrong.
I have nothing to really add to the thread, other than I don’t really think this game needs the messages. yes, there are plenty of things that take hours, however, it is easy to afk in a safe place (or go to char select) when you need to leave. not really the same thing as having your entire army of zerglings destroyed because of leaving and losing out on prize money.

It really is nice outside, everyone should try it once and a while. I took this one this past weekend.

Hey, nice graphics! Where can I download this “outside”? :P
Ubi, that’s one hell of a nice picture. Where is that Texas? Arizona? New Mexico?
Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
Depending on which way you look you can see Pike’s Peak too.

In the name of sharing pretty outdoor pictures….
And yes, this place exists. Rainbow Mountains – China.

Wow, that is amazing. I doubt I will ever make it to China, so I will stick with climbing the hills around me.

Indeed, the outdoors has pretty decent graphics and even runs on a integrated GPU.
The draw distance is kick-kitten as well.
That was an amusing message. I found it funny, lol
I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have a little blurb in the loading screens about personal health.. Yes other games are known to inform players to take breaks.
To me it is common sense/knowledge and being situationally aware of your own usage/time spent. Just keep the local clock time on so you know how much you’ve been on… Set an alarm on your phone, too if it helps. I’ve done it. Easy, works wonders.
I personally find those types of messages annoying, so I’m glad they’re not in this game. It should be common sense to take occasional breaks when gaming for a long time, and I can time those on my own, thank you. And if you seriously need a reminder to perform basic survival functions like sleep, eat, and use the bathroom, then I daresay that you probably have serious problems and it isn’t a game’s responsibility to fix them for you.
If you need reminding to eat, sleep etc.. then you’re doing life wrong.
I’m just glad nobody has realised they could troll us by reminding us to stock up on gems, to make a legendary, to practice pvp for the upcoming season etc
pve, raid, pvp, fractal, dungeon, world clearing, legendary questing.. Zapped!

It’s actually quite sad, considering we are comparing GW2 to GW1.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Yeah, those messages were annoying, especially when they reached double figures….
People mostly ignore them. Who’s going to stop in the middle of an event or fight when they get a message like that to get up and walk around? If they weren’t added it’s because they were ineffective and didn’t change behavior.
If the guy who died because of playing for so many hours straight had seen them, he would have ignored them and still died. Someone who plays that obsessively isn’t going to take a break because of an ingame message.
ANet may give it to you.
Likely, they were added for liability reasons, at the time.
Oh yeah those messages that I ignored. Except to remind me that I’d been playing for 5 hours straight and it was 2 in the morning and I should have gone to bed hours ago because I have work in the morning… lol.
It is not necessary anymore, who in is perfect mind plays that long gw2?
I start getting antsy past 2 hours with most sedentary activities anyway, gaming included. Just naturally hyper, I guess…
I don’t really see how a short sentence every hour can be annoying given all of the garbage in map chat.
Yeah, I’ll admit that I do miss those messages and wouldn’t mind them making an appearance in GW2.

Once, on a whim while playing Guild Wars 1 during Wintersday festivites, I decided to try how high I could get that counter, and eventually got it up to “You have been playing 4 days, please take a break.” I have a screenshot of that floating around somewhere.

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
There’s a clock built into the game on your mini-map that you can set to your local time. It renders the GW1 reminder moot. You’re without excuse.
It’s called personal responsibility. Don’t kill yourself playing video games.
That’s waaay up there in undignified and embarrassing ways to die, considering how utterly avoidable it is.
No need to..Since HoT came out, people take breaks all by themselves.

You are right about the reason they added the reminder, It still got to the point that the reminder was just a notice in the bar and meant nothing. Every hour the reminder is set to run. It may or may not have been a liability, but technology now is at where you can set every phone, tablet, even on your computer, a timer that will go off.
Guild Wars is also a closed map system one normally did not go around with a load of other players on maps. GW2, many take breaks, many go AFK and leach off the work of everyone else in the area. With the number of players saying the time or gotta go, ect, those are reminders right there to look at your clock.
