There are plenty of fun achievements in this game with fun names, so I’m not really sure what you’re on about.

If you light all the fires in one of the fractals you get an achievement called If Only We Had Marshmellows. If you kill at the chickens in the city in the Charr fractal you get an achievement called Out of Cluck.

Implying the game isn’t fun because you liked some titles in the original game is sort of strange to me.

That studio was a child (in company terms). Now, it’s grown up. It’s at that horrible teenage stage where everything is oh so ungodly serious. Most of the stuffed toys are gone from the bedroom, and the few that were too precious to throw away are hidden out of sight. This change was caused by how much they grew up and out to make GW2 and keep it running.

In time, they may reach the next level of being comfortable with who and what they are, and become more stable again. But for the moment, you can tell that ANet still sometimes flounders between trying to be a big company, and wanting to have some fun. If/when the hardcore content approach fails, I expect a period of “black clothes and black hair dye” from them as well.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Tonight in the news, Vayne is unable to connect the dots. More at 11.

They just put a title in the game called “Killer Queen” for killing Karka Queen when HoT came out. Seems pretty fun to me considering it’s an obvious nod to one of the best bands (and one of my most favored songs of theirs) in the world.

So if they put in a title like “fun drinker” for the wintersday achievement, that would
make that content suddenly really funny for some people ? Really ?

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

It’s gotta be more imaginative than “fun drinker.”

I can connect the dots just fine. I connected them and found a picture of people looking at the past through rose colored glasses.

Many of the original Guild Wars 1 devs are still here…but yes, the industry has changed. It’s more competitive. There’s more at stake.

But it’s nice that you think highly enough of me to take pot shots like you used to. I’d thought you’d forgotten all about me.

lol, love it.

Perfect analogy.

Of course, it’s probably not helped, at all, by the people who are now (almost certainly) working in gaming.

You know?

All those people on games forums, two or three years ago, who hated anything fun and wanted everything to be super grown-up and serious?

They probably left college and are now the new wave of games devs.

It may be time for me to take my next, long, game-free period.

I did it before, so I can easily do it again, if necessary.

Apparently it’s a subjective studio, so some people walk by it without realizing its there, others see all the fun as it appeals to them

Your post suggests otherwise. If you’re so sure you connected the dots, why don’t you face the OP’s post head on?

Many of the original Guild Wars 1 devs are still here…but yes, the industry has changed. It’s more competitive. There’s more at stake.

Which means make the game less fun than more! GENIUS STRATEGY!

But it’s nice that you think highly enough of me to take pot shots like you used to. I’d thought you’d forgotten all about me.

I’d never forget about the white knight who claims that ANet has totally done things he doesn’t agree with, yet turns around constantly on said things and defends them, rather than actually holding the company to any kind of standard. You are, unfortunately, quite unforgettable.

think thats my issue. everything recently has been highly geared for harder, more time commitment, more serious, larger and more…

feel like they have less a focus on being fun and being sure the game is fun and more on their path of seriousness and bigger is badder is better

The expansion released two months ago came with an event chain featuring a noble fop running around the jungle in a loincloth and being roundly mocked by everyone he came into contact with.

Everything is most certainly not ungodly serious.
