It seems lately everyone is discussing the new ascended armor skins, but I’m just confused. What ever happened to this mesh?

It looks like medium based on the asymmetrical sleeves. If it’s not going to be ascended armor, will it be in game as some other set? We desperately need more medium armor options that are not long coats!

I think the new Ascended gear is just horrible. I don’t know what they were thinking when they came up with it. The Ascended weapons are so dull so I expected the gear would be worse. I wasn’t wrong.

You’d think for something you have to actually work hard for would have something creative, but I was wrong there.

It could be like that on purpose.

Here’s the breakdown:

Make kittenty looking weapons and armours that are BiS, meaning people would want them for various reasons. Before and during the release of weapons and armours, put Transmutation Crystals on sale so people will buy them after previewing the sets. +sales

We already saw this happen for the weapons. Watch it happen when the armours come in as well.

That is just the stuff that was datamined. It is nothing. We don’t actually know what will get released.

Isn’t that counter intuitive though, many people make the things for the look as much as the stats, so if something looks ugly many wont make them at all, no matter what stats are on it, transmutations stones or not, also why would players go to all that trouble with Ascended just so they look exactly like the weapon they had before.. new looks are always welcome imo..

Was the render assembled from pieces or found as a single model? If it is the latter, then it was intended for a NPC.

Sounds plausible. Also notice how they hand out transmutation stones left and right during leveling, but once you start piling up L80 gear you need to get those crystals. And the most reliable way to get those? The gem store. Almost like they want to get us hooked on frequent transmutations during leveling, only to have us wave that credit card at 80 to maintain the addiction…

I don’t know if it was assembled from pieces, but I do remember seeing the mesh for different body types. I hope it is player armor and not NPC armor!

ding ding. We have a winner!

Anet has proven to be so tight with their miserly ways that they will not even tell you if a mere four Living Story items will be useful in the future, instead leaving you to throw them away and risk needing them in the future, or let them sit in your bank. All because they are so desperate to push you at any chance possible to crack open your wallet and buy some gems.
BiS weapons and armor are guaranteed to be huge. Just look at the fire and brimstone that’s been raining down on the forums over Ascended weapons.

The sad part is, Anet will make hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of US$ on crystal sales for that very reason. It isn’t good marketing, it’s not good business. It’s kitten near scamming.

Oh it’s not so bad, either farming a bit of gold for the crystals or buying some gems, so you can use the armour you want. I do agree it’s a bit of a sly tactic (if they have deliberately made the Ascended armour ugly) but it’s not the end of the world.

I have noticed though (and haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere ont he forums yet) that the ~79 trans stones are now blue instead of green, and the crystals are now green instead of yellow. Does this mean a new stone will be introduced to transmute Ascended?

This has probably been discussed already but I’m not a regular reader here.

So you’re saying that the stones and crystals have been moved down in rarity?

They are so rarely talked about in those terms that at first i wondered if the icons themselves had changed color.
