Hey everyone,
As a returning player coming back to Guild Wars 2, needless to say Ive missed a lot of stuff. I’m making this thread in request for some kind people to just outline what major changes I’ve missed.
I stopped playing actively at around Scarlet’s release, sometime last year. The last Living World I could remember is Queen’s Jubelie (or however its spelt). Obviously one such change is Lion’s Arch, which, if I may ask, where did everyone go? One of the more fond memories I had was socialising in Lion’s Arch in front of the Bank, now it’s all migrated? So where did everyone go? o.o

any help would be appreciated

The biggest change is, your home server does not exist except in WvW. All other zones have been merged.

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

Scarlet destroyed LA with her army and a giant drill. People are still in Lion’s Arch but you will also find a lot of people in Divinity’s Reach and Rata Sum. You haven’t really missed much aside from the Living Story destroying a few things and the addition of ascended armor. LS2 just started and thankfully you can replay the episodes you missed now but you’ll have to pay for them if you didn’t log in during release.

Edit: And the megaserver as the guy above me pointed out. Forgot about that one. It kind of destroyed the RP community.

I’m only here because sometimes I just like to watch things burn.

(And by “destroyed the RP community”, we mean people can’t idle forever in Divinity’s Reach complaining about why nobody is in the local bars as often anymore.)

So people migrated to DR and Rata? Man…
and what’s this about Megaservers? Are zones shared across servers now, no way!

Mega servers are servers that appear as needed. There’s an algorythm which attempts to place you in the server that makes the most sense, using your guild, your friends list and your home servers as part of the criteria for where it places you.

But it means there’s no more home server in PvE.

Last few questions ;P
it seems ascended armor was also released, are those worth getting?
Also, in regards to LS2, can you only do ’em after you completed your own personal storyline?

Thanks

You can do personal story when you’re level 80. You do not have to complete your personal story. Most people think ascended armor isn’t worth getting, but if you’re a min/maxer, you might disagree.

I have one character completely in ascended gear, the rest of my characters in exotics. kitten ed if I can tell the difference.

You can get Ascended, but it is far from needed or game changing. Exotics will be fine.

LS2 will assume you have done your PS (and a lot of other things) but you do not have to do any PS to access LS2

About Ascended Armor: it’s 5% stronger. It’s pretty negligible. Stick to Ascended Trinkets and Weapons and you won’t see a big difference. However, if you want to do something and you like crafting, go for it. It takes a lot of time and/or money. You decide.

There is one big plus for Ascended gear: it is account bound – even if you equip it on one character. This means you ckittene your Ascended light amor on your Necro, Ele or Mesmer etc.

‘would have/would’ve been’ —> correct
‘would of been’ —> wrong

You can get a synopsis of all the changes since you left at the top of this page by clicking ‘Releases’.

Welcome return. =)

Login now before the patch to get LS2.2. I assume you’ll have to purchase LS2.1 from the store? Moving forward, if you are taking breaks and anticipate coming back to play, you should at least login (just have to login and have any character enter the game, don’t have to do anything, as I understand it) every time new LS content is released, or have someone do it for you, if you are otherwise disposed, on assignment, etc.

They are free if you login during their release period, but then cost a few bucks (I think it was pretty cheap?) after that.

LS progress is tracked in your Story Journal, and when you complete each piece, it opens achievements.

That is the only time sensitive thing I can think of conveying.
