What if Crafting did not give XP?

Theoretically, crafting something should add value, rather than subtract it.
Theoretically, crafters would not be competing with virtually every possible customer. Crafters sell items below the market value of the mats in hope to defray part of the costs of making the item. If the item is priced higher than the cost of the mats, the customer just buys the mats and makes the item himself.
If there is a problem with crafting, it’s that there are 8 crafts, 2 crafts (active) per character and 5 slots with purchase of the game. The only thing preventing players from crafting stuff for themselves is disinclination to craft.
that would have been a good suggestion at launch to make crafters a viable in game profession (some people just love it I am told). Now it is a bit late, donĀ“t you think?
