I think having the low cooldown ability to pressure can heavily outweigh the high cooldown one shot wonders. These elites generally can be dodged or mitigated.

It’s a nice idea but it is also avoiding the real problem. Some classes have such terrible or uninteresting options for their elites that they are better off with with a regular utility skill.

OP post was more about replace elite slot with any others utility, not being able to use utility slot for multiple elite …

i do not think elites are bad. i just think in term of build design having a very limited choice of options for elites heavily factor overall builds you can run. most build your some time just lacking that con removal or that stun breaker or just that leap you need to really complete the build.

Any good Engie could design a dozen op builds by using an utility intead of an elite. Just think on a 4 kit build, or an HGH with 1 extra low CD elixir, or simply your classic burst grenadier build, plus an extra stun breaker. Or any decent build, with a slot only for slick shoes.
Elites are ok, right now… but their CD make them less useful than a utility skill.

I like this idea quite a bit. Have the heal skill locked to it’s position, but set the remaining skills as open to any utility with a max of 1 elite. If it’s a balance issue because a build becomes too OP when excluding an elite skill, kinda sounds like elite’s aren’t really all that elite and should be looked at.

1) OP should change title to make it less confusing
(for example: “What if utility skills could replace elites?”)

2) i agree with OP … would be really nice to be able to use another utility skill on the elite skill slot
would create the possibility for some more builds actually since many utility skills are 100% needed on a class and you cannot not use them… but you would need 1 other utility skill to make a certain other build work

and yeh .. like psyckos.6893 just said… if builds suddenly become overpowered when you can replace elite skills with normal utility skill then Anet should think about reworking quite a few of the eliteskills to actually make them useful and worth being called “Elite”

If the only thing that makes them called “Elite” is the long cooldown… then it is time for a change xD

I’d probably throw Spider Venom into my Elite slot on Condi Thief. XD Either that or Refuge and go on Whirl spree.

I’m sing Agility Signet, Caltrops and Impairing Daggers atm.

i am glad you can see a lot of stuff you could do with engi that main idea of this change.

a lot of kit swapping means there easy set up for intruping stunlocking engi.

with buff to nerco elixir can just all be corrupted

grenade are classed as ranged attack with all buff in reflect / dome in the game now i could see it being much less effective overall then it was in past.

i think it be really cool just to see what you could do with the game i mean my fav aspect of game is build design.

If you don’t see how you could warp the game with this, you have you eyes squinched shut. You can’t have a meaningful conversation about MMO game mechanics without being aware that any change will be analyzed to the Nth degree in a matter of hours. Any breakdown will have 14 you-tube videos praising the glory by the end of the day.

Moreover, it should be pretty obvious the Developers are scurrying away from more build-flexibility as fast as possible. The Revenant in its initial release state tells you everything about the class designers’ dreams of chopping your options down to the point were they can predict every build before it even happens.

The GW2 elite should have been an Elite slot, which slightly alters a utility skill placed in it to an elite utility.

Every utility can be placed in that slot. Some might get a mechanical change (Glyph of lesser elemental becomes Glyph of greater elemental) or number adjustment.

as cool as that sounds it would be very hard for anet to balance it an put in the time to create changes to over 120+ skills
