I’m specifically talking about Trick or Treat bags. I’ve gotten my fair share of ascended mats like bloodstone dust…but not a single charged quartz (I’ll have my last charged quartz needed in a couple of days anyway to complete my ascended celestial ele but still, would be nice to have a drop). My magic find is 119% (up quite a bit from opening bags and is why I decided against selling them). Since ascended is a “rarer” (in the purely technical sense here) tier than rare it would logically follow that the lower the MF the better chance you have to obtain a charged quartz compared to higher. This is only the table for materials since gear would obviously favor a higher magic find.

Now let’s talk about small and medium bags. Scraps of leather and fabric are white rarity whereas things like small venom sac are fine rarity, so a higher magic find likely hurts us when opening such bags since at 0% MF opening 100 bags means we’ll have a lot less fine mats and more white ones (butter, scraps, cloth, etc.) whereas the higher number favors higher rarity tiers, meaning fewer basic/white quality resources.

As an off-topic mention I wanna say I like the change to making T6 mats rare quality. It seems far more honest that they’re indeed intended to be that scarce and should benefit from higher MF being in a higher tier than fine now.

Am I right on this? If not say where so I can understand it better so I can know where to stop my MF. My goal is 150% (170% with the ascended triforge since I gave it a MF infusion) so I can have reasonable chances at exotics while not getting flooded with fine mats when opening lower level bags.

Magic find ONLY works on monster loot. It doesnt work on bags or chests.

I opened bags with 500 ish magic find including food, utility and other stacking buffs and I got many crystals. Just because one is yellow and the other is pink does not mean that the drop chance from event bags is higher.

That’s true indeed, with some exceptions (like chests from PvP reward tracks)

Copy-paste from wiki:

Magic Find is both an account bonus and a character attribute that increases the chance to receive higher-quality loot from slain foes. With a couple exceptions, it does not affect containers (including champion loot bags), chests, or any other source of loot. The exceptions are:

- Containers received from structured PvP reward tracks.
- Bandit chests in The Silverwastes
- Divine Lucky Envelopes during Lunar New Year

There are two components of Magic Find: an account-wide bonus, which applies to all characters on the account, and a character-specific attribute.

No, it’s why I’m asking for clarification.

And even from that I got spark 2 years ago with a MF of maybe 150, rather less.
And to be honest: I salvage everything anyway and never cared about MF, to me it’s some myth – and I’m living well with that -only problem I have is that I get closer to 300 and it’s always hard for me to justify destroying something.
