I see a lot of complaints about the xp required to spend mastery points. What if there wasn’t the xp requirement? What if it was just going out and doing the task to unlock the point and then you could spend that point right away? Would this of made them happier with the system?

It would make things a lot easier. That’s actually what I thought would be when I first heard about the masteries.
But, by doing that people would have all masteries unlocked almost instantly even in Maguuma. The grind was put in the HoT maps to make the content feel longer (I’m sorry, but that’s the truth, HoT maps are not that big regardless of what people are saying).

I for instance would have unlocked Central Tyria masteries instantly cause when I logged in first at HoT release I had 59 of those. So yeah… not gonna happen.

XP is easy. Just do a bunch of crafting. What is annoying is getting the MP as my theory is they are bugged in Central Tyria if you have HOT.

I think you may be right, as I can’t seem to do anything which lets me assign the.

Regarding HoT, I am finding the combination of mastery and experience very frustrating now that I’ve gotten through an initial level of gliding. The gradient for acquiring additional masteries seems very sharp. When getting those masteries (e.g. Poison field immunity, advanced gliding) is crucial to getting to content (and hero points), that is problematic. The complexity of the new maps is a big challenge in itself. The time penalty when you fail and have to start over can be disheartening, specifically because the value of the reward you get in practical terms is being reduced sharply. I think ANet needs to better balance the rate of return on time spent.
