What if the Eternity loophole goes live?
The steps you listed above is how it works now. The only thing that will change post-patch is that the individual will have access to the skins of Sunrise/Twilight. They will not have the stats, unless skinned to ascended, nor the stat-swapping function that a legendary weapon provides.
The skin is almost the entire purpose of crafting a legendary. The ability to change stats is just a nice-to-have.
I wouldn’t expect them to let this go live. Maybe they’ll make Eternity account bound on acquire.
If they do however, not many people will be able to afford buying both legendaries and for the ones that can, there won’t be enough supply.
As the Eternity is the only legendary that could cause this problem, they might change it to account bound when you craft it and no more Eternity on TP. It will be craftable only my guess.
I understand. But where/what is the loophole?
If have the money to buy Twilight AND Sunrise at the same time, why not.
I understand. But where/what is the loophole?
My sentiments exactly. Let the kids have their colors, I say. I’m not sure why anybody cares to exclude others from their club of legendary skin owners. I would not do this, as I don’t care for the looks, and I only envy legendary weapons for the bag saving function of stat switching.
Does it hurt you in some way? What’s the issue?
They specifically mentioned this as one of the perks of the new system… it certainly isn’t a loophole… It was specifically designed with this example in mind.
If you sell eternity then you don’t get the eternity skin, thus it is working as intended.
So there are going to be more eternities on the market? Oh, that mean they will drop in price… Honestly I’d keep it, stat change means allot to me.
I thought you only got the skin for an item once you equipped it and bound it to you. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

It isn’t working as intended.. Before patch if you sell eternity you only get gold back and nothing else. After patch you get twilight and sunrise skins for free. It defeats the purpose of crafting and keeping the 2 legendaries as you can literally get them for free if you can afford the investment first. The skins are why ppl craft twilight/ sunrise, not stats
Eternity, The Juggernaut, Kudzu…
Oh Noes! Even more people will have the Legendary Greatsword skins that are so common you can’t swing a dead cat without shaving it’s whiskers off on one.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I hope Anet will think of this. It would really degrade the value of Sunrise, Twilight and Eternity.
This would be heavily discouraged via the TP anyway. Ultimately, if this creates more Eternities than people are willing to buy, it will keep the value of Sunrise and Twilight high and just reduce the value of Eternity, meaning you’d be paying 1000’s of gold for the skins anyway.
The market will adjust. This needs no special handling by ANet.
They shouldn’t allow legendaries to be skinned in the wardrobe.
Skin does not provide you with custom effects like footsteps or lightning.
Legendary does.

Any particular reason? Just ’cause?

Yep. People should be able to know that you actually have 2 legendaries, not a real one and a fake.

We are long past Legendary Weapons meaning anything. Once they were proven to be saleable, their prestige got castrated.

So, you’re telling me that IF they decide to up the max level (and they said they’re considering it, so it’s not out of the blue), and they decided to make lagendaries stay at the current lvl 80 and release new legendaries for lvl 90 or whatever the next max level will be , you won’t be mad? Because you crafted it for the skin, not for the BiS part of it. Right?

If so I would transmute to the latest best stats and still be happy with it.

Well I would not. It seems that people find it impossible to believe, but I made my lagendaries because I wanted BiS items for which I would never, ever have to grind or farm again.
Do you not have to equip the items in order to save the skins? I thought you did.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Honestly I would not be completely satisfied if they backtrack what they decided to do with legendaries (bis), but only thing that would really upset me is if they release new legendaries that are a lot flashier than current ones but still cost similar amount of mats/gold.

Why?
I find it completely normal. Actually I’d expect them to release new legendaries (possibly even flashier) with an even greater grind attacked to them. Hell there’s not way that won’t happen, imo.
EDIT: they’ll have to cost more and require a lot more time, because this is not launch day anymore, people have thousands of gold set aside or invested.
I understand. But where/what is the loophole?
The loophole is :
1) You can buy directly Sunrise and Twilight for 5350 gold, account bound them so you have the two skins, then make Eternity and sell it for 4500 and make 3817 Gold.
So it cost you 5350 Gold – 3817 Gold = 1533 gold to get 2 legendary skins.
2) You can also craft a sunrise and twilight for 4000 gold, and gain 3817 Gold by selling Eternity. So you gonna have the skins of Sunrise and Twilight for 183 Gold, 2 millions karma, 1000 badges of honor and 1000 skillpoints.
Now you can say, oh ya but its only skins, you don’t have the ascended stats or the swap stats capability. Legendary is all about skin. They used to have exotic stats, usually poor stats at that like soldier or rabid. And people crafted them anyways, because its all about the skin. Think about it, SUNRISE AND TWILIGHT for 183 Gold. I get that amount of gold in 2 weeks. 183 Gold you can buy that with 34.77 USD, thats nothing.
There is no loophole. You need to account bind the Eternity to be able to have the skin. Two posters already said something like this above and got ignored.
EDIT: Three now, got ninja’d
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but the loophole (in terms of acquiring the skin) won’t exist. You’ll only acquire skins in the wardrobe from account bound and soul bound items, so when you craft Eternity and it isn’t bound you don’t yet unlock the skin. Only once it becomes bound, and thus not sellable on the TP, will the skin be unlocked in your wardrobe.
They’re not saying they will have the eternity skin, they are saying they will have twilight and sunrise (as well as both precursors) skins.
Since you accountbound twilight = get the skin, accountbound sunrise = get the skin, then make eternity which is now not accountbound and sell it. You make back most of your money that would have been spent on twilight and sunrise, but you still get those two skins.
Yea, I realised I’d misread what was being said and deleted the reply pretty quickly but I guess you got in too fast for me
I don’t see an issue with this. Why could you not do this? If someone is willing to fork out 4000g for Eternity, and help you recoup your costs, why is that bad? You still had to make 2 legendary weapons, and equip them. I don’t see how this affects the economy or anything else. I mean, right now you can still make the 2 and sell the 1. The ONLY difference is that the maker of the 2 gets to use skins. Why all ’da fuss?

It hurts us because we worked hard for a legendary, and this would devalue it. You may not think of it that way, but frankly, achievement and progress is a pretty big thing in MMOs.
@above first of all, the biggest point of Legendaries are the skins. That’s what they were at the start of the game, and it still hasn’t changed much because you could make Ascended weapons for every single stat setup multiple times over and still have money to spare at the cost if a legendary.
Second of all. This is clearly a loophole because the system obviously didn’t intend for you to just unlock skins by just having them, and that’s what this almost is.

Personally, I won’t be mad no. When I was making my Ascended weapons, I could make 40+ ascended greatswords at the price of a Sunrise, so obviously I didn’t make Sunrise as future BiS protection, because I don’t think the next tier of weapons if there would be any would be 39 times more costly to make.
This would be heavily discouraged via the TP anyway. Ultimately, if this creates more Eternities than people are willing to buy, it will keep the value of Sunrise and Twilight high and just reduce the value of Eternity, meaning you’d be paying 1000’s of gold for the skins anyway.

You can’t always rely on th market to adjust. Even if the market is fully informed, it might take time.
Even if the market is fully efficient, it might not adjust because a small number of people have the money to be able to do so (but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done).
Also, how would the market adjust? If the price of Eternity lowers, the price of Sunrise and Twilight would as well, as you get both skins when you equip Eternity, and Eternity is considered a ‘better’ sword by most people, ie, a superior substitute.
