What if you don't like the legendary changes?

I’m not quite sure what you can do about that, you can’t come up with a design to ease everyone. I suppose they can come up with 6 different designs for each legendary and let you choose.
The devs don’t always have the time or the technology to create exactly what they want. Many things go live in “good enough” condition and are worked on later. If they changed the skins it’s because the previous appearance was not what they had intended and they believe they can improve on it.
Any aspect of the game can change at any time, it’s one of the things I find most fascinating about MMOs. Of course not everyone is going to like the changes, but it is necessary to accept that they are not creating the game for you, personally, but for millions of people who want many different things.
If you cannot accept this, play a single player game. Many of them have fan-created mods that change the game, but they are optional and you can take them out if you don’t like the changes. In an MMO you either accept the changes or move on.

Change in online games is a fact of life for us. But this is a change that is purely visual. A visual change to a tier of weapons that’s entire purpose for existing is their appearance. Players get these weapons because of the way they look. Given the effort involved in getting a legendary, I would assume that most people owning them like the appearance. I’m sure many people will like the new looks, and decide to get a weapon because of its new style. But is it worth taking that away from someone that likes what they have now?
I see the point you are making with gameplay/mechanics changes, but this is something purely visual and concerning very costly weapons.

This isn’t the first time they’ve updated the skins.

I’m aware of that. It’s just something I was thinking about because a friend decided to not get The Bifrost because of the recent change annoucement. I imagine he’d have been rather annoyed if he had gotten it, then later had it changed to where he no longer liked the staff.

Well, after seeing the new Bifrost in-game for myself, I’m very glad I didn’t go through the trouble of getting it. I would be quite angry, and probably end up transmuting it.
This is like having an auto manufacturer come to your house and “upgrade” the paint job on your car to a new color you don’t like. I wouldn’t buy from one that did that, and these weapon “upgrades” make me very weary of legendaries.

Exactly…
I think, we were all warned that legendaries were not finished or finalized, and were subject to change. Not everyone is gonna like changes. Anet already know that thousands of people arent gonna have the same taste. We were all asking for changes, to make them more noticeable. They have done this, of course some people are gonna be like oh now it’s too much. They can’t cater to individual taste. But they have answered and fixed a big complaint that they didn’t stand out enough. If you want an understated weapon then why get a legendary, there are many more weapons out there that are understated. Legendaries will always be something that is over the top and stands out to show how much effort you put into getting one. Just be happy that they listened to the masses and gave them more noticeable weapons.
Maybe this is just me, but if I wasn’t happy with the way the weapons were before, I would have passed on getting one. Or waited to see the updates. I would assume that someone going through the trouble of getting a legendary would have to be pretty happy with how it looked.
In the case of Bifrost, it was already one of the more noticeable legendaries. I think the only ones that stood out more were the greatswords because of their size, and the Predator/Dreamer because of their loud sound effects and bright projectiles. As far as standing out, even while sheathed, I think Bifrost was at the top.

I don’t have a legendary, however my idea on this is a simple one. Make the Legendaries unsoulbound until first use and make a popup to tell the players that. If they use it then it gets soulbound. If they don’t like the new look they could sell it. Problem solved.
I kinda like your idea ;p Problem is, it’s quite hard to sell a legendary. Some stay on the tp for a lonnnng time. A refund of all items used to craft would be good maybe? Although im far too sure this would be a complicated process.
Maybe an NPC that would offer you a skin for any legendary you had in your inventory/equipped. The skin being the latest version of the weapon. It would require leaving the old versions in as unique items, but I’m not sure there would be any actual problems with that.
Just make every newly crafted one be the original version, since the skins are freely avaiable. Or even include the updated skin along with it.
