You should remove or edit your image. Naming and shaming is against forum rules. That said, all you can do is report them in game and block them.

Also keep in mind Anet will not tell you if someone has been suspended based on your report. Chances are they may have been given a suspension and you didn’t even know it. Just block them after you report and you don’t have to worry about them anymore.

It’s been edited, and had they been suspended, they wouldn’t have shown up in the game every day since, as I have them on my blocked list and they are online each time I checked it.

If Op gets infracted for merely copy/pasting it and even editing out who it was so as to not name shame, then this will be telling really. Say whatever you want to in game without penalty, merely say the same thing here quoting someone and get infractions.

Not breaking any rules, this is not about shaming anyone. This is about whether what was said in the whisper considered verbal abuse. If not, then I’ll not be so strict on what I say to people in game anymore. If it is considered verbal abuse, then how is this player still in the game being allowed to harass people. And the whole block thing works nicely when people are responding to some person insulting them in map and you think they are responding to you, instead it’s the person you blocked.

So it’s okay to break rules (and laws) in game, but it’s not okay to break the forum rules (rules which PROTECT cheaters, hackers, exploiters, and abusive people?)

The person in the screenshot should have his account terminated.

Im not debating that the person who wrote it should be banned. However, you are not allowed to discuss those kind of decisions on the forums (because it leads to nothing).
You also repeated what the person wrote in your message and as a screenshot so you give it visibility. In that case, its you who is writing that and using profanity on the forums is not allowed either.

Seriously, block the person, let it go and delete your OP, if you dont want to risk a forum infraction.

OK, here are some of the forum rules you should revise:

Do not debate Customer Support decisions or actions. Threads or posts designed to announce, appeal, or contest your own or another player’s suspension or account termination—be it forum or game account—will be removed without notice.

Do not use profanity, insults, or personal attacks. If you have a problem with another member, contact a moderator.

Do not circumvent the word filter. The Support Forum, like the game, is filtered for appropriate language. Any attempt to circumvent this filter will not be tolerated including the use of “creative spelling” or of forum names or signatures that contain a word that is censored by the prohibited words filter.

Do not engage in personal attacks against forum moderators or ArenaNet staff. You may contact staff directly at forums@arena.net if you wish to discuss a staff member’s decision. Please note that abuse of staff members or moderators in forum posts or private messages may result in forum account termination.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/forum-code-of-conduct/

Do not engage in personal attacks against forum members or in character assassination. Posts that attack another member, that single out a player for ridicule, or that accuse someone of inappropriate in-game actions will be removed without notice. In-game violations should be reported directly to our Support Team. If you believe that using the support system did not result in a sufficient or timely response, you may post your concern in the Support section of the forums.

Forum rules do not protect cheaters, hackers etc. There is a seperate way to report them. It is not supposed to be reporeted publicly because it gives public knowledge to them and essentially tips them off in advance that someone is on to them and simply makes them change whatever hack, exploit, cheat, glitch they are doing

Generally I believe anet bans people in waves, though not sure if this is just for botters, cheaters etc. But yea it needs to be investigated and you can probably imagine how many incidents there are, also remember with the holidays they had some days off. I would just suggest anytime you see this person abusing other players, just report a couple times for verbal abuse, and eventually they will be suspended, or banned for repeat offenses.

It clearly is actionable, everybody agrees on that.
And you are questioning actions taken by Support because you think that the person hasnt been banned.
Debating that on the forums is not allowed.
You are circumventing the profanity filter by posting the screenshot and you are responsible for whatever you post, even transcripts. Otherwise everybody could just post screenshots of somebody elses hatespeech.

My 10k ore are just done refining, so I wont post anymore as this topic will be deleted anyways.. I just made you aware that you risk an infraction.
Its your decision to remove your post or not.

I would feel really silly if someone who insulted me in game also lured me into getting banned on the forums.

Responding to them is a matter of discretion, generally engaging in an arguement with such morons will get you angry and when angry we all make mistakes and say things that get us in trouble. So it might backfire to say anything in response. So matter of personal choice, just be careful in what you say, because they can go ahead and report you as well.

Some people say some pretty disgusting things. The guy who said these things should get some serious penalties. Its one thing to trash talk a player buts its completely different when you start saying deeply offensive and sickening remarks.
I’d hope Anet takes strong action against this person. I am a great supporter of Anet, though it is a shame that the OP has been led to feel like he can only find justice & answers on the forums.

I have to admit, that whisper was extreme. But the best you can do is block and report it. Don’t look into the person or check his or her movements. Just report it and move on.

You’ll be a much happier person when you do.

I’m a PvPer, so I get whispers like that nearly every single day. The best you can do is not respond, block the player immediately and report them for verbal abuse. Above all else, do not take it personally.

Having worked as customer support in a software development company, I can imagine ArenaNet’s list of reported players growing faster than they can possibly go through. Keep in mind that each case must be investigated thoroughly before any action can be taken (so that players do not get suspended wrongfully).

Anyhow, don’t lose sleep over it. These kind of people don’t deserve the attention.

Ok, let’s talk about this.

Is it actionable?

  • Without all the details, my first reaction is that it is offensive and entirely unacceptable.

Why didn’t an agent take action on the other player?

  • I can’t answer that, but there may be a couple of reasons:
    1. Occasionally we investigate a report and find that both parties were engaged in trash-talking and we have the option of suspending both accounts or neither.
    2. Sometimes an agent misses a report, since they’re viewing in real time and things move quickly. If this person was engaged in similar chat and reported multiple times, that is concerning.
    3. Very rarely, someone incites offensive chat in order to create drama and/or draw sympathy. (It’s not common, but it happens and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention it.)

Would submitting a ticket help?

  • Yes, if necessary. Usually, the best way to report is through the in-game system because the agent is able to act quickly, sometimes within minutes. But in cases of repeatedly harassment (“stalking,” targeted repeated whispers, etc.) go ahead and submit a ticket. Click “Support” at the top of this page, then “Submit a request” and give this info:
    1. The date
    2. The time of day (and time zone you’re in, so agents can pull chat logs)
    3. The exact spelling of the offending character and/or display name
    4. The name of your character (the one that was targeted)
If it’s convenient, you also might include:
    5. Your game world
    6. Your general location in the game

With this information, the team can pull logs. This can take up to several days, depending on ticket volume. But we don’t look the other way in cases of harassment, hate speech, swearing, stalking, offensive language, and things of that nature. If the incident is confirmed, something will be done.

Sometimes you will hear in a general sense what took place; other times you may not hear but should have confidence that reports of this sort of thing will be handled thoroughly. If you feel something has slipped through the cracks, post in the “Tickets for Review” and provide your ticket number for the CS Lead can review the case.

And I agree with Ardenwolfe and Rangelost: Report and move on. Don’t let it be a focus — the game’s too fun and life is too short to empower someone else to spoil your day!
