What is missing from this game?
Nothing to strive for after you do a few things. Get 80, get exotics, 100%map. After that its skins for your armour and weapons more or less. Without some sort of carrot people get bored. And because of the 100% map playing alts loses its appeal. WvW is really siege v. siege. Which gets dull after awhile imo. Top that with game mechanics that punish the player for various things. Tradeskills are cool…but useless. No economy to sell most things in. They are there mainly to level up with.
Honestly I could go on. I like how the game looks but its fluff with no meat.
By trying to balance everything in the game it’s become too balanced. It lacks any sense of feeling powerful.
There is absolutely nothing to strive for regarding character development at max level. Various and easy ways to get the “best” gear in the game, after that everything is cosmetic.
The game makes it so easy to do things with other players it removes the need for any social interaction during gameplay.
Dynamic events and “questing” while good on paper become repetitive after a couple of zones. It turns into a mad dash for the hearts and you realize you’re doing the same boring thing you did in the last zone, except you still have a billion more to go.
PvP is a random mini game that doesn’t give you any real connection to your character or progress you character in any way.
WvW giant free for all of who has the most numbers through the week, zerging to win is only fun for the one in the zerg.
You can’t trade with other players, no dueling, expensive forms of travel and constant gold sinks, no real end game, end game is a grind. I’m sure I’ve missed a few.
I agree with the guy above, the game is “too balanced” for some players.
The tight balancing means those who want easymode kills and the feeling of power that comes from “being able to play more hours → get more gear → win” don’t get the satisfaction they get from gear-grind based games.
Just a side-effect of the philosophy of GW2. After that, it’s up to you whether you want a balanced game, or are really looking for a game where no-life’ing it gives you an advantage. No shame in admitting it either way.
The truth is that there are some games which are designed to favour the “play more hours → get more gear → win” players.
Borderlands 2 is a very fine example, it is 100% gear-based and that is what everyone plays it for, and there is no shame in that.
GW2 is just not like that.
Capes
Guild halls
Trait respecs anywhere
Elite Skills, most are terrible and i would replace most with a Utility skill if possible.
Out of Combat Weapon Swap for Ele’s/Engineers
Lack of 80 content
Lack of Minigames
Lack of PVP game modes
not to say the game or isnt fun or anything, but saying this game has everything is a stretch.
Honestly, it’s because you’re trying to treat GW2 like an MMO ~ which it isn’t.

approach GW2 as a standard 60$ Action/Adventure Console game (Skyrim) w/online co-op ~ then you’ll be pretty satisfied with your purchase and how GW2 caters to that mindset.
IE: Get in, play.. get out, walk away and wait for the next batch of DLC (expansion).

If you’ve played a lot lately you may have just burned out!
GW2 isn’t as addicting as many MMOs (thankfully!) so you don’t feel forced to play while not enjoying it.
Play something else and come back later.
That’s what I did.
Also you could try things you haven’t done yet.
Go try a Jumping Puzzle you’ve never done.
The rewards usually aren’t that great but they can be fun and often have cool looking places you never knew where there.
Try Dungeons!
They are a bit scary to first get into “What if I ruin it for all the others?” but they have infinite respawns so you shouldn’t stress about it too much.
Try to collect a full set of dungeon armor or weapons if you want a goal!
There are people who have 3 or 4 lv80 characters, there are people who have sticked with just one and there are people who have a full roster of lv2 characters and only play sPvP.
There are many things to do and if you are bored of something then you should try something else.
If nothing holds your interest that’s fine, too.
No monthly fees so you can wait a week, wait a month, or even wait a year and then come back for new content.
housing
district staff to change the story (see a real progression)
much more skin armor.
+ More character customization
+ 80 areas and maps revealing areas already known gw1.
of variations mcm / pvp structure.
+ Mini-games
Of Difficulty, and alot of things to study / explore / understand.
And unfortunately, I never thought that the quests to occupy players make a run to the right and left miss much … =/
hehe, i like the “too balanced” point. Any game developer who read that is probably steaming mad right now. They finally get a game more or less balanced and still people complain.
It is a fair point though, you never really feel like you can run out and do something on your own. Just going with the flow to win battles.
@Argument that GW2 is “Too balanced”
Something you might enjoy watching:: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/perfect-imbalance
It missing one thing time that it can grow in ppl seem to want the best game the with the money they spend but that just not how the real world works yes money can buy you things but these things are only as good as the person buying them. If you think money that you spend should only reflect the money it self your not living in a real systom.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
The fact that this game has no carrot on a stick is what makes it so appealing. The combat is fast and dynamic and feels more like an action title than the usual back and forward table tennis like all other MMO’s with the exception of AoC. And the lack of grouping or social interaction is a result of how soloing has been catered to. Most people completely rely on grouping in most MMO’s due to their inability to solo. And as far as end game goes, I don’t see how replaying as an alt even having explored the whole map is any different to repeating dungeon raids over and over for months at a time, just to get gear that mainly serves as a status symbol rather than an actual improvement to your gaming experience. Let’s face it, the whole PVP superiority complex, stems from nothing more than what used to be a very populated FPS Deathmatch mentallity which serves merely as a persistent adolescent pissing contest. The paradigm of online anonymity has created a new form of hubris so intensely saturated that has never before existed. If there were consequences to players who merely play to bolster their real life lack of self worth in the form of harassment and verbal abuse then PVP would be a much more enjoyable experience. Because these PVP l33t players who grind in what is no more than the old FPS deathmatch for their inferiority complexes and call it end game have completely infected and mutated the original meaning of the abbreviation R.P.G.
In closing, all I have to say apart from the above, is that this game is a great immersive and beautifully rendered setting in which to explore and enjoy. Playing a different class in this game is like playing a completely different game. Maybe you should try that, after all there’s no rush.

That just made no sense
Its interesting how many casual players that knows how players that likes gear treadmills think and how they live their real life lives.
People like progression, its human nature and unfortunately something that sometimes gets in the way of great ideas.
Anet like people to be equal at 80 and made access to the “top tier” gear easy – but the lack of progression means most people lose intrest fast.
Take WvW: If your server aint doing well, people stop playing it – there are no progression, so no point in playing – and so 90% of all match up ends up being over in a day leaving the battlegrounds nearly empthy for the last 6 days.
Spvp with no ranking system, progression and instant lvl 80 makes it feel more like LoL or other arena mini-games – and although the combat system is good, its not good enough to suport a linear none-progression system that has less actually progression then most modern FPS games.
PvE: After doing the dungeons a few time, I personally miss the trinity of healing/tank/dps – it becomes alot more about semi-exploiting (LoS, Resetting or whatever) to get the mobs down. Grinding Dungeons for gear require more runs the most MMO’s ive tried – and its only for looks.
So in short: No Progression (call it a carrot or whatever) might look good on papir, but in reality it gives people something to strive for in the game and keeps them interested. Even a casual like myself will – eventually – move on with nothing to strive for other then new skins…
There is no evil, there are no sides, no competition, pvp has no point, seriously we just teleport to mists and kill each other. They made it with far too casual ideas to appeal anyone, it is a great game but no one has a reason to play it aside from being a good game.
Once we save the world what reason do we actually have to play the game if we have no sides..?
Server vs Server is nice but it just doesn’t fill that spot..
Simply said, it misses rewarding endgame content.
Pve: too complicated reward system for dungeons, too many badges, no dungeon finder, too much work to get into a dungeon, armorsets and weapons look like they have been designed by 8 year olds.
SPvP: no leaderbords, too much pve involved, too much fluffy maps
WvW: pointless, nightcapping, not enough rewards, badge-system without sense, commander’s are the ones who can afford 100g and not those who have acomplished something in WvW, orbs destroy the balance even more,…
Basic mmo-features missing: dueling, inspect other players, sit on chairs ingame, mounts, ingame itemdatabase,…
A slower leveling speed so you don’t max out in a month.
True group roles. No true healing, agro or CC. Yes, it was never supposed to have it:). Still missing though.
Bosses that require strategy.
Gear that isn’t just cosmetic.
Emotes. There really aren’t any, besides dance, wave….very basic.
Actual quests. The story could be considered the big quest though.
Varried pvp modes.
Optimization in WvW.
Descent trait lines for Necros, pet AI, ect.
More available skills. 10 is so limiting, but it’s by design. Either that or allow skill templates so you can quickly switch OOC, instead of manually switching them all.
Better TP search functions.
Better friends/guild notifications.
Better combat logs and chat interface.
Decent camera. It doesn’t zoom out far enough and is a cluster near walls for jumping puzzles. Edges are also not accurate. You slide off of ledges that appear to be fine. Plenty of missed jumps due to no fault of my own.
