Pity the Quaggan
The manatee-like quaggan started as a joke, but ultimately turned into a species the design team wanted in the game. “We had a lot of races that you don’t feel a lot of empathy for, and we wanted something that would make you want to rescue it.” Coberly continues, “They’re a living race, and they’ve got weapons and a culture, but you feel for them and you want to protect them.”
The joke Coberly referred to was a creation Kotaki dubbed the Poobag. Kotaki explains, "I drew this cute little thing and called it a Poobag because that’s all it was good for. We couldn’t get the Poobags into the game because they were so stupid, so we changed them into the quaggan you encounter in the game.

I knew there was a reason one of my characters is walking for quaggan homelessness awareness .

I myself are a bit torn on Quaggans. Some of them are cute and funny, but their slow speech can really grind my gears sometimes. Especially during the Quaggan part of the personal story, if you choose to help them out. On the other hand, I love the quaggan couple that’s been around during the living story and I think the design in general is quite cute, and the “dark side” they have (as in, becoming evil creepy fish monsters) when they get angry is an interesting little thing.
So yeah, I like quaggans as long as I don’t have to talk for them for too long
I especially like the ones that are made to look like a killer whale.
Any plan that involves dead quaggans is, by design, foolproof. I’m an unmitigated genius!
I’m sort of ‘meh’ on Quaggans.
When I first encountered one, I’d actually drawn the ‘huh, a sea cow…with back legs’ conclusion. I don’t know why I thought it, I simply did. Having it confirmed just makes me chuckle.
Still, I don’t really like them or dislike them I guess. I’m just as happy killing one as I am helping one, just depends on what the game requires. I have a hard time empathizing with many of them… might be do to all the oooo and cooo and just ugh. That part of their speech makes me want to smack ’em.
I do find the 2 from the LS events cute and they make me smile though. I have to admit I actually looked for Bloomanoo and Peneloopee after LA got blown up, just to see if they made it out.
Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.
To me they are the Irrawady Dolphins heads with legs xD.
