What is the purpose of the game pre-end-game?
No, you are not missing anything.
Do what you like to do. At that level pretty much everything gains you xp and you do not need to grind for ascended items for some time. Explore the world, if you enjoy that. Craft, if you like (tho it is mostly waste of gold). Experiment with your skills, traits and weapons.
There is no need to rush into dungeon at the level the dungeons require. There are no major rewards in dungeons and you can always do them later with your level 80 character with all the skills and traits unlocked.
Both PvP and WvW can be really bad experience at your level since you probably die. A lot. Again and again.
What you can do, is join some world bosses. They appear at certain spots in specific times so you should check counter first (google for gw2 world boss timer or just look here https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_boss). Many players gather up to these and they sometimes drop nice stuff.
Pre end-game, GW is a fantastic RPG. At 80 is when the MMO specific mechanics begin to take over.
I would level via map clearing if you really don’t want to miss anything.
Thanks guys!!! Have fun!
low levels are for learning: lore, basic mechanics and levelling crafting professisons and IMHO gaining mats for the (near)future… Also learning to navigate the reaches of tyria is one of it….
when reaching lvl 80, farming and all othe content is opened up (fractals, WVW, and Meta Maps (think hirathi hinterlands only bigger scale), gearing and customizing, world completion, HoT, and much more…)
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
You can’t really miss anything in this game. You will never be locked out of anything due to being too high level, and because your character scales to the level of the area you’re in you also won’t find you’re killing everything instantly and getting no XP and no loot for it.
Some people level characters entirely through using Tomes of Knowledge, so they reach level 80 without having gone anywhere or done anything and they’re still able to go and do everything in the game on that character.
It’s just a matter of doing what you want to do, and learning the mechanics as you go.
(Dungeons start at level 30, with the story mode for Ascalonian Catacombs. You then gain access to the explorable mode at level 35, and then a new dungeon at levels 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 and the explorable modes 5 levels later. But many people choose not to do dungeons until level 80.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
The whole game is end game. You can take your 80 level fully geared toon to starter areas and do things you might have missed. Even after 3 years there are some events I haven’t done yet and I will do them if I notice them.
To have fun…
You might want to google the dictionary definition of “game”.
