A:

How important is RNG in this game?
Kind of but not really important because you can craft a lot of the stuff and it isn’t really that reliant on ‘drops’.

How grindy is it to reach level cap?
You could see it as grindy but as you level up you unlock more stuff to do (not just new zones) which freshen it up, apart from that a lot of people have achieved level cap in a short time.

What is the wow factor of this game?
You play your way, level up doing a variety of things, and instead of having DPS, Tank and Healer classes every class has those 3 aspects integrated so you can form your own build (although some are more viable than others) And the community is amazing! You can literally talk to anyone and have a good chat or a helpful one or even start a random dance party in the middle of nowhere.

How hard is it to get OP gear in this game?
Can’t answer as I haven’t done it yet.

How Pay2win is this game?
It’s not P2W at all. All you can buy are cosmetic items and you can turn in game currency into gems which buy cosmetic items anyway.

What are the bad things about this game?
It’s hard to pick a class because each class has really good mechanics making them appear interesting. Also the story line isn’t really that in-depth but it isn’t a major feature of the game anyway for personal stories.

Does this game give a real reason to keep playing even after I reach cap?
The game is true in the fact that it keeps on posting new content with most of that being for high level players so at level cap you won’t run out of things to do.

maybe try it and decide for yourself, no monthly fees, can quit if you dont like it and come back at any time, there are frequent sales on the site for digital editions. Posting those questions here are only going to get you mixed results and wont give you any real answers, because your asking questions where the answers are based on opinions. Yeah, agreeing with XTD there – these questions are a bunch of subjective bits and pieces.

Aside from “How hard to get OP gear” having the answer “there is no strictly OP gear”.

1. If you want a really good item, especially a precursor, then I guess RNG is important

2. Since the recent update, early game feels more of a grind than before.

3. Let’s see…. Personal Story, the absence of the standard trinity, easy to pick up and play, WvW, dynamic events. world bosses….

4. It’s a bit expensive like say 50 gold for a full Berserker gear (maybe more) if you want to get it quickly as opposed to relying on the RNG to get it for you.

5. Pay2Win? More like Pay to Make Your Character look cool. The only things I see that are Pay2Win in a way is the conversion of gems to gold and some boosters but even if you bought a Legendary with real money, they don’t give a huge DPS increase over other gear.

6. Well, the current Feature Patch kind of makes the later chapters in the Personal Story broken but still playable. No new modes of PvP are available so far and WvW can get monotonous

7. That….. I cannot answer as you need to seek that out for yourself. Do you want to do dungeons? compete against other players? farm the hard way to earn more cash? Those are some of the things you can do.

1: ring is a thing but not that bad
2: most people on tgis forumwill say it like getting blood from a stone. But it’s not thatbad. Do map compleation and the story and you will be lvl cap before you get near the end.
3: I’ve played for 2years now and imstill havering fun
4: exotic gear open the gp and buy it. As for ascended you have to craft it, or hope the ring gods cavorted you.
5: there is no p2w at all. The cash shop is cosmetic, the boosters that are there can be acquired in game aswell.
6: that’s a loaded question. People on this forum will tell you everything is wrong. It’s not that bad, area issues yes but the good outweighs the bad.
7: map compleation, pvp, world vs. World, dungeons, fractals of the mist(mini dungeons that get harder the farther you go), and the content patches released every 2 weeks containing new story and events.

1. You can get good gear without RNG. Some gear is RNG or grind, but it only has a cosmetic difference from the regular gear.
2. Levels come really easy. You can reach lvl 80 in a few days if you’re dedicated, and 1-2 weeks at a relaxed pace.
3. It’s pretty wow compared to other mmos around.
4. There’s no gear that will put you miles above the other players in terms of stats. Full exotics is where you can safely stop unless you want to run high-level fractals where you need ascended gear. This tier requires a lot of grinding, but aside from the fractals, it’s just about 10% stat upgrade from exotic.
5. There’s no pay2win, everything in the gem store is either convenience items, boosters or cosmetic items. There is no way to gain unfair advantage in PvP through gem store.
6.
- You have to pay gems for any Living Story episodes you missed. Living Story is basically the plot progression. You don’t need Living Story to access the new areas, but some of the achievement rewards are unique.
- There is a rigid meta for PvE.
- A large portion of the playerbase dislikes the trait unlocking system.
7. Yes it does. Reaching lvl 80 is easy, but there are hundreds of achievements to get, gear sets to assemble and titles to claim.

I’d max a character, since you don’t unlock the highest level traits until you do. And there are fun things to do at max level.

I would say it would be worth it . Don’t rush the leveling experience but enjoy it as it goes and when you get to level 80 you’ll have endless content to do and you can get into WvW or PvP even before level 80 if you’d like.
I can’t guarantee this because I haven’t reached level 80 before but I have played for over 150 hours. (It’s not that the level cap is hard to reach it’s just that I keep making new characters and classes because I’m fussy :P) Hope to cya on the fields.

How important is RNG in this game?
There’s quite a bit of RNG, but it looks like they’re working on the reward system overall.

How grindy is it to reach level cap?
Not terribly.

What is the wow factor of this game?
Aside from combat mechanics (you can actually move out of the way of attacks!), the visuals/art style. Also, the amount of customization in armor and dyes is pretty amazing. Add in things like jumping puzzles, being rewarded for exploration, and an amazing soundtrack. There have also been some really great large scale world events.

How hard is it to get OP gear in this game?
Gear isn’t really OP. It’s grindy to get the top tier of gear, but it’s not necessary except for specific styles of play.

How Pay2win is this game?
It’s not.

What are the bad things about this game?
The trait system. Lack of a roadmap for future releases. Events don’t scale properly with large crowds anymore. Bugs that have been left unfixed for years now.

Does this game give a real reason to keep playing even after I reach cap?
That depends on what it is you’re interested in. There’s no real endgame progression in the sense of raid/gear treadmills, but that’s part of what appeals to me, personally.

Don’t know any other questions but you get the idea.

I agree with others who’ve said you should just try it out for yourself. You’ve got to have an account to post here, so you might as well give it a go.

Eh, I don’t mind answering specific questions like these, because players are usually the best source of information in an overall sense to know what to prepare for. My issue is with people who come in and go, “Hey, been gone for a year, what’s new?” like I want to list out every little detail that’s changed. Patch notes exist, and while they’re terribly incomplete for GW2, they’re certainly more informative than anything I’d have to say on the topic.

How important is RNG in this game?
Not important, there is no such thing as “unique” or super powerful rare drops. All gears and items are obtainable in several ways and gears are relatively easy to obtain.

How grindy is it to reach level cap?
You don’t grind, you do quests which is indicated as “Hearts” on the map. You also explore to gain experience. Yo also do personal story to get more experience. You can also do dungeons to get more experience but nowadays people kick you if you not level 80. You will get to level 80 within a few days if you plays a lot or within a week if you play regularly for couple of hours per day.

What is the wow factor of this game?
Not grindy, buy to play, constant updates.

How hard is it to get OP gear in this game?
As mentioned before, there is no OP gears, the highest tier gears are relatively easy to obtain either through time or golds or farm.

How Pay2win is this game?
Little to none. You can buy gems and convert them to gold to obtain highest tier gears but it doesn’t matter much. Those gears doesn’t give you imbal advantage.

What are the bad things about this game?
If you come from a grindy open-world PvP type of game with many customizations on equipments and lots of grinding but you love them, then this game will get boring for you, either because it is too easy or too casual.

Does this game give a real reason to keep playing even after I reach cap?
Personally, I do achievements, some pvp and some WvW. It is pretty much a open-ended game with no directions. The buy to play is really a plus factor that keeps me playing since there isn’t any other b2p game that interest me yet.

Don’t know any other questions but you get the idea.
Is a casual game, if you tired of the grindy and hardcore play style of those games you played, maybe this is a good change of pace.

Good, but remove all parts where you refer to the game as not “grindy” – that’s the only fault. There is enough to establish a lot of parts of the game as “grindy”.

PS: Best or “OP” Gear are Legendaries, correct?
And you have to Grind dem mats, and RNG dem pre-cursors to get to that.

There is certainly optional grind. But you can do virtually all the content without grinding. Grind isn’t necessary unless you want a specific skin or a specific reward.

Yes GW2 has some grindy parts, such as ascended gear and legendaries, plus some exclusive skins.

But none of those are content gates, meaning that you can do all the content in the game without them. That’s what differs GW2’s grind from most of the other “grindy” games out there.

Of course all MMO games are “grindy” to a degree or another. That’s just because there is no development team in the world that could create enough content to keep up with the players consuming it.

The only way to have enough “fresh” content all the time for the players is to allow the players to make the content themselves. You’ll never run out of new content in games like Neverwinter or LittleBigPlanet (although the latter is not an MMO).

I wish developers would add more possibilities for player-crafted content in all MMOs. That would solve a lot of development problems and remove a lot of needed grinding. It would often introduce other problems, like how the progression is handled with player-created content.

As said by the two gentlemen/ladies, those grinds are optional thus I don’t think it is accurate to say the game is grindy because of optional grinds.

However, there are many cases of MMORPGs where grinds are not optional, so those MMORPGs are considered grindy.

So, conclusion is GW2 is not grindy since all the grinds you speak of are not necessary for the progression of the game.

If you want to craft legendaries and lots of the more exotic vanity appearances for, mostly, weapons? It can be very grindy.

Leveling doesn’t have to be grindy at all, though now, leveling is half irrelevant. The traits are the important bit, and they’ve turned unlocking traits into a fairly epic grind, be it to unlock them via their gameplay methods or to pay gold and ability points (the gold costs can quickly add up on that one).

There’s more and more stuff to do in the game the higher in level one gets, as we don’t truly outlevel lower level zones. If you’re level 80 and go back to a level 5 area, you’ll be knocked down numerically to being pretty much level +1 for whatever the area is rated at.

This means that, while being high level tends to mean you’ll have better gear (that scales a tiny bit better according to its rarity, I think) and probably have it itemized for the stats and sigils and runes you want better, its all still relevant in terms of the design-intended challenges.

So, by the time you’re level 80, you can roam the whole world and have all the things there are to do available to you, though you might not find some of them that you were able to do at level 25 all that much easier than they were when you were level 25.

Reasons to play this game: No subscriptions to worry about, no Pay to Win (its all Pay to be Pretty – vanity is where they getcha, not functionality) and it doesn’t have to be super grindy unless you want things like legendary weapons (barely more powerful in totally insignificant ways than much more easily attainable Exotic weapons, but with unique skins and animations and froofy vanity woo stuff) and full sets of Ascended weapons and armor (a tiny bit more powerful than much more easily attainable Exotic stuff, though made to be slotted with Infusions for higher-end fractal survivability. If you don’t do fractals and you’re not in love with the appearances, there’s not a lot of reason to care about Ascended equipment. )

Gear in this game matters, but its very easy to get to 80 and get kitted up in full exotics/rares, at which point, if you’ve got your stats, traits, sigils and runes configured right, you’ll be just fine to do pretty much anything in the game (except high-end fractals).

Bad Things About This Game: Anet thought it was a good idea to make unlocking traits a bizarrely tedious and/or expensive grind, though for the most part, they do a lot better than most dev studios when it comes to the quality of their decisions.

But when they do it wrong, they don’t hold back. They figuratively burst fully nude into the board room, dance the Charlston on the table (and do it wrong) with a thunderous bellow, then (still figuratively) keep at it throughout the meeting in the seeming hope that if they refuse to admit its a problem, it won’t be a problem anymore.

They’re very persistent like that.

One is only the smartest person in the room if they are alone.

1 remark, I agree this is a good game I like it, there is no pay 2 win, no real OP stuff.

But while it’s not neccesary to grind , you could do so and get a very nice armor set with special infusions if you wanted to, with some extra stats on it and you’ll be grinding a LONG time to get your 2500 t6 mats to do so. same for legendary.
legendaries cost a lot and it’s because of the huge amount of materials in it. an ascneded GS has the same stats as eternity, but is about a factor 100 cheaper. (40 gold vs 4000 gold (it’s probably the most extreme example tbh.)

If you really want the best in all stats you will pay through the nose. either in time or in cash. But IMHO it is just a waste of effort. Because noone does.

Most extreme example (yes I know it’s just an example):
eternity , moot and frostfang, bolt , howler and kudzu carrying warrior with ascended zerk armor with vitality boosting +5 agony infusions, with specialized power boosting agony infusions on weapons, infused rings and trinkets, with stat boosting infusions.

This is probably the worst grind. Most people would just ignore the stat boosting infusions, and all but 1 or 2 legendaries. It will save you about 2 years of gathering everything ….

Exotics still work perfectly, I run most my chars with exotic armor, some have ascended weapons, most have ascended trinkets. I do fine. Been playing for 2+ yrs now still having fun.

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
