The following is taken directly from the October 23rd patch notes:

“To sync armor crafting with weapon crafting, and to help maintain the value of leather, masterwork, rare, and exotic inscriptions will now be crafted with patches made from leather and cloth. To account for the added leather cost, the amount of cloth required to make an insignia is reduced.”

Specifically regarding Ascended gear, the requirements for insignias went up from 3 Bolts of Damask, to 3 Damask Patches (3 Bolts of Damask and 3 Elonian Leather Squares). Meaning that it got more expensive to make the ascended gear because the 3 leather was added with no adjustment to cloth.

Is there any word on this? Is this a bug, or are the patch notes wrong and there is supposed to be no reduced cloth requirement? It seems very odd for ArenaNet to directly increase the cost to make Ascended armor.

That’s the biggest issue right now pertaining to Asc items (along with the fractal “nerf”) – it’s currently outrageous to craft Asc items and there are no other reliable means of getting them but through crafting. Everything that was addressed has been implemented poorly and this economy is more like a crisis than an issue when it comes to relevant mats.

As of now, either truck and grind through to make one piece or just stop until Anet addresses this issue.

It’s currently a horrible mess, in order to “balance” ascended mat cost they made insignias cost 3 Damask and 3 Elonian but didn’t reduce costs anywhere (except by maybe 1 bolt of goss, biggest joke “balance” ever), making all 3 sets that much more expensive, as well as making the leather a lot more expensive on its own.
Totalling a massive increase on an already insane cost.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

Should cost 2 and 2, lower the amount of damask by one, add in 2 elonian leather, i think woulda been much more balanced?

The pvp community reminds me of what Obi-kittenenobi describes Mos Eisley as from star wars.

Agreed. That seems much more reasonable and seems like their intent based off of the patch notes.

Crafted a full medium set after HoT release from scratch for roughly 800g including leveling of leatherworks 500. Seems fair to me as there are enough new money sources now with new mats on the market and older materials getting cheaper, especially T6 mats. Plz stop repeatedly asking for things for free. Those 7 pieces were only 100g each which is less than 10h per piece which again should roughly match the time needed in fractals to get a random chest… Stop being lazy or be happy with exotics, its only 5% and if you are not willing to invest in those 5% you may not be willing to wipe the same amount of time for 5% progress in raids!?

I think you may have missed the point. We’re not getting these numbers from random. These are all compilations of points addressed by Anet with resolutions to many things such as fractals, and that end of the deal wasn’t met. This is in no way a QQ of price, but rather, Anet saying one thing and doing another.

We posted at the same time with the same answer – pretty sure this guy read the topic title and just assumed it was a QQ post where we want things handed to us on a silver platter or something. These are legitimate arguments.

That seems very reasonable to me.

I’m just going to hold off on making any Ascended armor for now, and just concentrate on making Bolts of Damask and Elonian Leather Squares until this gets resolved (if ever).

Have to throw in my 2 cents.

This seems reasonable.

Doubt anet will listen though.

I read the topic and still think it is QQ. Half of the wording is correct, the other half to be honest isn’t. Or we just dont get the sense. Maybe it was meant the way that leather is not valuable enough and therefore pricing is increased whereas cloth pricing is reduced. Overall the price is perfectly fitted compared with other sets as leather is still cheap.
