What is wrong with Orr
it is quiet simple: complete the events needed to take over the entrance to arah with the other players on your server and you won’t have to deal with monsters at the entrance.
Here some informations to the events that need to be completed: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gates_of_Arah_%28meta_event%29

The problem is that there is no one around to do it. There is no way to finish it, I have guested in almost all servers and all have the same issue, no one is doing it, so the devs need to do something about it.
Have a named NPC (different color for uniqueness) announce on map channel that the event is starting. If there are too few players on the map (or it fails) then announce the starting of the event next time in surrounding maps. This should only be done for the major chains though as not to glog up map chat; or as an alternative give the npc’s their own channel you can ignore if you like.
You can also guest on a more populated server. Some servers have Arah open near-permenantly.
The part of the personal story to kill Zhaitan requires you to complete the dungeon on story mode. Assuming you’re not going to try and solo it, a group of 5 players should be able to do the event chain to open the gates and the dungeon.
I have the opposite problem. I don’t want to do Arah dungeon, but the “pre-event” to get through is always down and the waypoint is always open. I only want to do the “pre-event”. Maybe we should change servers :p
But yeah do the SM on a weekend and user the LFG website. Doesn’t matter if your dungeon isn’t open. Someone in your group will most likely have it open, if not all of them.

For a second I thought you meant you can currently use npcs as puppets to say whatever you want… that would be fun.
Endless Petrification Tonic
After they cleaned orr up (removed alot of mobs) in a recent patch, i loved it…
Then they decided to add annoying unneeded CC skills back in, overpowered damage to the vets and mobs, and champions to events that didn’t need them…
I have yet again given up on orr, once a bad place always a bad place i guess…
Tarnished Coast is the player-designated server for open cathedrals. if you are likely to find the entrance to Arah available there.
Having the Arah gates closed is rumored to have the effect on pen/shelt events happening more often… just sayin’.
To OP,
I know exactly what you are experiencing as it also happened to me after the last patch. My only advice is to Guest to different servers until you find one where people are actually in Orr doing stuff.

Not sure if 5 can do the pre-event as it can be really tough, especially when the wizard goes invulnerable and instant heals if you’re all wiped or too far away. But, I’m not the best player so 5 good players may have a chance…

That would be truly awesome, however I was just giving ANet a possible fix for this issue as I hold out hope that they read these forums occasionally.
I don’t quite understand the problem. All you need to do is to get the waypoint at the end by running past the mob. Then after that just check in occassionally to see if it is uncontested.

Personally I find it very difficulty to run past all the mobs on all of the plateaus when they keep stunning, crippling and knocking me over. I usually die about 50% of the time as I try to save the silver on using the way point.
Nothing is wrong with Orr….is the focal point. Get through it or die.

Well if violently sank, spent around 150 years at the bottom of the sea before violently raised back to the surface. Not to mention the smell of dead sea life.
The fact it’s full of undead doesn’t help making it a popular vacation destination either.

It’s still got more tourists than Southsun Cove.

What class are you, do not have stability/stealth ?
For 2 weeks I have been trying to get close to the Ahar Dungeon so I can finish my story quest and the place have been overrun with mobs like forever, why in the hell cant the devs establish certain times for the area to be controlled by mobs and certain times to be controlled by the NPCs so we newer players trying to get to that hellish hole place can get acces to the WP and be able to finish the freaking quest, this is total bullkitten.
Agreed that the solo experience in Orr, particularly in Cursed Shore, is pretty rough. What I saw at release was that once players got to Orr, those who survived soloing learned to run through and away from aggro. Once people who had learned that came back to the lower zones, it made things more difficult for lower level players given how easy it is to train aggro onto someone else in this game.
That having been said, I did solo the run up to that waypoint on an elementalist. Needed a mix of running through mobs and killing them. You do have a balance between defense and offense in your spec and gear, right? (ie a toughness stat around 1900 and either speed or some way to break cc). And it does take around 10 capable people minimum to do the boss at that waypoint: unless someone else recently took it, let’s be clear, you’re on a suicide mission to get that waypoint. BTW when we do own the area, the rocks uncover the tunnel to the Arah dungeon entrance, and there is a karma merchant with a great selection of lvl 80 oranges at 42000 karma each.
Good luck!
Orr needs to be more rewarding for ongoing play, then maybe more servers will be able to field the people needed to control the zones.
Before the recent adjustments, Orr was frustrating and marginally rewarding. Now it’s playable, but unrewarding. Almost feels like they were so ticked at having to change the zone that they decided to just make it worthless to go there out of spite.
It needs better drop rewards and maybe even needs it’s own separate category of dailies, or some other alternative reward system to encourage more play there, with out going to far and making it so people only ever want to play there. (That’s why a separate Orr Daily might be the best approach. Encourage people with high level characters to spend at least an hour there a day, make that hour very rewarding and the zones would fill back up again).
I absolutely loathe the place. It’s FUBAR and futile because it never will become the golden place of the six
