WvW has ascended in a way. You can do dailies through them so you get laurels that you can still use. Problem is monthly might not be as versatile to accomplish in WvW. I do agree amulets/rings should sell off badges, the only thing is that a lot of people will be insta boosted when they introduce that in contrast to a person who doesn’t WvW.

The dailys do suck and it’s not really what they promised, I remember they saying that there would be 6 ways to complete the daily and only 4 had to be done. Whatever happened to that.

And Fractals really need the new infusions and amulets as a token reward and daily reward, otherwise the only point of doing it is just for the fun and the money.

Other than that I like the patch.

This is going to be implemented in the coming months. They always stated it wouldn’t be in January. It’d be nice if it were in the January update, but they never said it would be, so we all knew it was coming I guess.

Maybe they just need to see which Dailys the community reacts the best to or something.

And what will be next ? Will I have to /dance naked one hour long while playing the bell to unlock a token a day and with 330 tokens I will be able to buy a pair of ascended boots ?

lol
but if you do that, do not forget to post the time and server of your performance here in the forum!

I personally like the variety in dailies now.

Yesterday I had a fun time trying achieve the dodge part. It’s a little hard against 1 mob, but if you put yourself in the middle of a larger mob, dodging becomes a whole lot easier, and faster to complete.

Also the reviving part, if you know where to get yours you won’t have a problem with it. E.g. wvw is the best place for this, because people are always dying there.

So if you know where and when to get them, you’re not gonna have a hard time with it.

I have more to say about the rest but I wanted to point this part out more.

I don’t do Fractal but I somewhat agree with OP about the Dailies. Though I did not know the daily requirements changed (which is good because I don’t pvp, yet). Still this laurels patch will promote more grinding than ever. In fact, for example, one of yesterday’s daily requirements was healing.

You know how a guildmate and I completed it? We took turns jumping to our deaths and reviving each other.
Wow.
Fun.
Not.

Is this really the kind of play style Anet is trying to encourage? Because it is that sort of GRINDING that players will do just to get the laurels.

And, in my humble opinion, the laurels are worth getting.

Just one laurel got me a bag of Tier 6 mats I was able to use to craft high-end insignias and make some decent coin for about six seconds of work (the crafting NOT getting the dailies).

I dunno, I almost think it might be better if we did not know what the dailies were or how far along we were to completing them. If Anet really wants to encourage exploring and play on lower level maps by higher level players, I don’t know, maybe:

1. SCALE UP the drops. I don’t care if I’m in Queensdale, if I’m level 80 don’t drop white and blue items for me. Especially, if I am fighting a boss.

2. Create random, mystery achievements or DE’s or something for a particular map and change which map they happen on regularly. Make it so a player may never really know where something cool or valuable may happen, drop or appear. That is probably asking a lot, coding/content-wise, but it is the sort of thing it will take to get the Lvl 80 zergs out of Orr and Fractals. Actually, all you would need to do is make a particular foe or material appear ONLY in a particular map and don’t put a WP near it
You could place a high level mat on a low level map because low level chars won’t be able to use the tools to get it, so no scaling required. Just throwing stuff at the wall here. Elite areas should still exist, they just can’t be the ONLY place good end game stuff is.

3. Think MOX. The whole get MOX as a hero thing in GW1 was really fun and required you to travel all over to put together the pieces/achievements to get the reward. With this big new beautiful Tyria why oh why are we not following event chains that take us around the world? The Secret Garden chest is close but each element should have been gathered in very different parts of Tyria which a kick kitten reward for getting them all.

4. Oh and maybe to encourage more interraction between players, figure out a reward for both joining a party AND doing a player combo vs a Veteran or Champion.
Sure, yes people could still turn that into a grind, but there is a greater chance of chatting with another player under that scenario than there is if you just run into a DE, do it, then leave after it done. And it would force players to slow down and figure out how to work together. That wall of flame/whirling defenses combo looked so sweet in the Manifesto video; so sad I have yet to see it in practice (maybe in pvp, it does).

It may sound silly, but it has been my observation that other players are much more responsive and friendly to “say” and “party” chat simply because of those nifty little bubbles that let you know where the person speaking is. So encouraging players to party up might lead to more social interraction as well. Or maybe just get rid of “say” and make map chat produce bubbles. That way you would at least know if the person speaking is somewhere nearby.

I know I went off topic from laurels, but it is my understanding that the 1/28 patch was meant to improve rewards while at the same time improving the sense of teamwork and community.

I’m not sure the laurel system succeeds at this.

This idea that you have to do something in a game, is ridiculous. It’s all in your head. Stop worrying about the kitten loot, and play the game! If you can’t find a reason to enjoy the game other then getting new loot, then maybe that’s a clue that you should stop playing. Just something to think about..

As for fractals; don’t play it with randoms. Find a group of players that you trust and stick with them.

I only partially agree with the OP.

The easiest solution, and one way Arenanet could have handled this, is to make separate rewards/gear obtainable with the laurels. Having the same thing done two different ways ultimately cheapens that gear as a whole.

But then again, I’m reminded that if the only thing threatened here is kitten for getting the gear in the first place, why is it such a big deal?

So OP, yes, I agree, but for different reasons with a different solution.

2- Because we can’t see the infusion installed on a linked item, someone could come in fractals 20 saying he has 10 Agony Reduction when in reality he has +40% MF and 0 AR in his ascended rings, making the whole run a real pain, in a presumed experienced team.

So? They could do this before. The solution is to kick them and find a new member. The other person I run with and I advertise you must have 15AR to do 20 with us. If they don’t have it (and it’s pretty easy to tell on the first boss that gives agony) we kick them. The patch actually makes it easier for us as we don’t need to restart to bring in a replacement.

4- Could you please explain what is now the point of the fractals ? I couldn’t find one anymore, except maybe the (ugly) fractals skins…

The “point” of fractals hasn’t changed. If there’s no point to them now, there wasn’t one before. Ascended items will eventually be available for all slots, and with multiple ways to acquire them. This is a good thing. There’s also already threads complaining that no one will buy ascended rings with laurels because there’s better things to spend that very limited currency on.

7- Trying to do the new dailies for yesterday and today was a real pain. One hour trying to combo with a friend, the second one trying to find the right mob to dodge him perfectly. After patch, I feel dailies is a punishment more of a fun task to do.

8- Everywhere we can now see aggressive players yelling on everyone else to cast fields, to revive, etc. Really, really not fun. The community certainly didn’t need that. Bots were silent at least !

Now you’re just going off the deep end trying to manufacture complaints. There was an issue with the combo fields achievement which caused it to not function as intended. If dodging took you more than 5 minutes, you’re definitely doing something wrong. (Karkas in Southsun are instant, easy, guaranteed dodges if somehow you can’t “get it to work” in normal play) People were loudmouth, demanding kitten before the patch, and are no more or less so after it.

9- The required skills for the dailies are stupid : dodging for professions that never need to, crafting for people that don’t want to, and I only saw the 2 firsts dailies… I fear what is coming in the next days…

There is no such thing as “professions that never need to [dodge].”

Anet has stated multiple times on this forum that this adjustment is the groundwork for the intended new system that allows you to choose your own dailies from a list.

It is not the game I waited, it’s not the game I wanted, it’s certainly not the game i’ve been advertised months after months, it’s not the game you promise since the release, and it’s definitly not the game I bought.

Please, Anet, do something for (y)our game. I really like it, but this patch and what I saw make me really hesitant to log in again.

These “threats” have gotten so over the top there really aren’t words to describe them. If a change to how daily achievements work is enough to make you “hesitant to log in again” you better find another game to play. If something that silly and trivial causes you even 1% of the heartbreak and struggle you’ve tried to claim in this post, it’s pretty obvious you don’t like the game. But realistically, you’re just upset because something changed and you didn’t ask for it. It’s not a big deal. The changes were almost universally improvements. You’ll live. If it’s that horrible for you, find a different game to play, but don’t try to act like these extremely minor adjustments somehow completely converted a game you liked into one you hated.

I think I love you finally someone stating the facts instead of just nagging ahahah

Guess who didn’t complete one fractal and still doesn’t loose sleep over ascended or legendary stuff or wants to do fractals? (If fractals is in another monthly, i will consume many drinks quickly and maybe do it) It was said early on they (Anet) wanted to make loot available in different ways. Should have expected fractals to be less desirable sooner or later, except for those that enjoy it, and those that have to have loot now and not a few months later. It’s a fairly common aspect to MMOs, like a starter area is less populated after the launch.

So, complaint is about possibly being kicked from a pug to make room for a possible guildie? is anyone surprised? and the usual practical response is where are your guildies? yeah, most mine left too, back around October. Got exotic stuff and left. waiting on WvW progression and/or more guild options in WvW (not sure what that means).

Syeria.4812 you are a wise person, +1 to you. To OP:

The bug aside, if you had problems getting combos off especially when you and a friend were purposefully doing them, you might wanna practice comboing more or just run Orr a few times and bring nothing but combo fields, you’ll have it done in a single event.
We knew from day 1 of ascended items release there would be more, they would be easier to get, they would not be BiS (supposedly, we shall see as time goes on), and that fractals would have more rewards released for it as time went on because it is an open ended dungeon and they can evolve it nearly infinite ways if they so choose. Nothing has changed there just like Syeria said.
You couldn’t get the dodge achieve done? Classes that don’t need to dodge? Are you just trolling us…you silly troll you must be trolling :-P
Dailies are harder now??? Really? So by getting dailies you can pick (I assume that is a feature that will come soon) and rotating dailies instead you’d prefer the same stagnant daily/monthly with no change and weak rewards over this new system with fresh changes each day, better rewards, cutomizable…hmmm all I can say to that is…OK
adios kiddo, hope you enjoy your grindfest subscription mmo, obviously a game that pretty much hands you everything and is free to play is too much for you to handle…

I agree with OP. Dailies were a working feature of the game and the new one’s debuted broken. The following daily, after combo killer, required me ultimately to allow NPC’s that I was protecting to die over and over just to complete the daily—talk about a break in immersion. I don’t feel any compulsion to do them around ascended gear, but they were a consistent reward in karma for playing the game and it was a positive game experience. I no longer relate to dailies positively. They just represent another element of bad design intruding itself into my gaming experience.

It can be done very easily in the course of the game. For example: Frostgorge sound, rescue the castaways. Done. You also get one event out of it.

I also remember ANet stating that it was never intended and would never happen again, that they would introduce ascended gear without the possibility to acquire that same gear via WvW. Now look at those new amulets. Fractals were already very time consuming for someone who only wants to acquire high end gear for WvW. And now im supposed to play even less WvW and do those dumb dalies EVERY KITTENING DAY FOR ONE SINGLE ITEM ?!?!?!?!!?

Well to be hones it’s just another broken promise in a looooooong line.
If that WvW update doesn’t totally blow my mind I’m outta here.

WvW is probably the most efficient way of achieving the new dailies (excluding the 20 second crafting one, which can be done without leaving WvW anyway). The dailies do nothing to encourage players to leave WvW, and are an easy way for WvW players to attain ascended items (albeit very slowly).

Condescendance never started a dialogue. Especialy if you don’t read the entire thread and escape 80% of my post. I already explained the dodge part. I essentialy dodge projectiles, not melee. That’s my role, I have bows for this purpose : being ranged.
Plus, tell me how to dodge something when the pet gets constant aggro. es I could disable it. Do you know what happens when I get a hit ?
For the combo field, maybe you never tried to play a ranged ranger. Please find me a reliable combo finisher in the bows skills.
I don’t want to have to retrait or change a playstyle I enjoy for a daily.
I think after 1000+ hours ingame and ~400 fractals, I know how to dodge and play with fields in the playstyle I adopted.

Need dodges in regular gameplay? Go do CoE. I guarantee you will not finish a run (alive) of CoE explorable without getting the dodge daily completed.

As for combos, ranger has by far the most reliable combo finisher for how the system worked. That’s why when I was running the daily for people, I got on my ranger. The shortbow autoattack has a 20% chance to take effect. Any mob with a decent amount of hitpoints (I chose raptors outside the enemy borderlands gate in WvW) will require you to hit it at least 15-20 before dying and your pet keeps them stationary in the combo field. If it takes more than 11 enemies to get that achievement on a ranger, you’re doing something horribly wrong.

Retraiting, changing weapons, and changing playstyle are completely unnecessary for completing the dailies. If you’ve played “1000+ hours in game and ~400 fractals” and you can’t manage those two dailies, you obviously don’t know how to dodge or play with fields.

Hopefully ANet have realized enough of their mistake with ascended that they indeed will make Fractals “useless (as the OP seem to think)” and allow equal powerlevel gear to be optained from all avenues as they promised from day one and messed up with FotM.
The laurels system might not be perfect, but it’s an improvement on a messed up idea to begin with and can be build upon without forcing people to farm grind FotM.

Heck – only the acronym of that dungeon was the only positive thing about it in my book.

In the case of both the fractal changes and the new dailies, what ArenaNet has done is to give us more tools and ways to play/group with each other. With the planned evolution of the daily system, this will become even more evident.

From the OPs post, it sounds like the issue is how the community chooses to use those tools. If you have issues with how people form or behave in fractals, then be careful of who you go to fractals with. Don’t group with the people who kick people at the last boss or care about every tiny piece of gear the rest of the party is wearing.

From a guild perspective, these are all great changes. The fractal changes allow me to include more people in our fractal runs. The daily changes cause people to give a little more thought to things like dodging or combo fields, making them better players for it.

As is typical on the forums, you are playing a game of “what if” and inserting the worst possible variables into the equation – and then blowing things way out of proportion in hopes of making enough noise to aggravate a developer and get a response.

Every one I talk to in game loves the changes and see them as significant steps forward toward a game where we have more say in how we play, not less.

Really, most of the player base feels that way? Your opinion is fine, please don’t try to pass it off as fact though. I had no problem with the dailies yesterday. It took me about 1.5 hours.
