Guild Wars 2

Hey, i’m a newbie to guild wars 2 and want to get a better feel of the races and professions. right now i’m deciding between human or asura for race and elementalist or necromancer. i want to know which ones you guys enjoyed the most while playing and if you can what race or profession just makes you say THIS IS AWESOME!!!

so please reply and share your thought for the whole world to see

I enjoy all of the races except the Charr, their run animation is odd to me. I really don’t think you can go wrong with any of the races. Humans are good because they are familiar in our minds. Asura have some fun animations such as their dodge animation.

Class is harder to recommend because I don’t know how you play. I have played my Mesmer and Ranger the most and they are fun. I also have enjoyed the little I have played my Necro. So far I have not found a class that I do not like.

Humans are my favorite because…well…. I am one.

Charr is cool because they look cool and they’re very different.

As for the class, that all depends on what you like. If you like melee combat I recommend a Guardian, and if you like ranged combat then I recommend a Ranger or Elementalist.

i like humans because iam one too…but norn females looks so hot, so practically for race depends in what skin you want to see, they all have different starter areas practically and stories

humans in some kind of normal valley? green areas
norns in snow mountains with a little small green area
charr in some kind of desert?
asura in a forest
silvary in a forest with shore

as a class depends, but if you dont know what to pick then go warrior, why you ask?
is the best tank in game
is the best melee class in game
is the best range class in game

they dominate those three aspects, 3 in one ladies

edit: oh nvm if you really only want asura or human, then think about starter area and looks, for class i enjoyed most elementalist but is very weak overall, with necro you can have minions and do curses, elementalist can kinda kill faster, the necro debuff more, elementalist can cc more efficiently, overall i always liked wizards so i would say, elementalist was the most fun to me.

I like Norn, because I can turn into a bear and werewolf. The Norn racial skills are pretty cool.

ALSO, being BIG in size means you get to see your fashion much better than if you were an Asura. Asuras are so kitten small that it is difficult to really enjoy what they are wearing. Afro’s on Asuras are kind of cool though. I definitely suggest a Norn or Human Female though. Humans are big enough that they can show off their fashion easily. Looking good is half the battle.

Elementalist because I have 20 completely different skills to use, depending on what weapons I use, AND it’s ranged. AND I get to summon elementals. AND I shoot fire/ice(water)/earth/and electricity! I get shields to help me take less damage, the ability to remove 12 conditions in a 4 second window every 15 seconds, and because it is colorful. Healing people is a fun perk, too. I like the Earth elementals as pets the most, because they look like walking mounds of poop. Poop monsters, bro. Poop monsters.

I do not recommend big races like Charr and definitely not Norn. They are too big it cause their movement animation look weird and very slow. In fact all the races movement speed is the same but because they are big their animation is slowed down in half which in turn give the feeling of slowed movement.

Human is the most popular class because of their versatile racial skill selection , natural good looking armor textures and central homeland location Queensdale connected to major city.

In my eyes the most fun and versatile class is guardian. He has everything you need to be good at tanking , healing, damaged dealing, buffing, protecting, supporting – the most self sufficient class.

As for the classes you mentioned I would choose Elementalist over Necromancer – because of its elemental attunements Water, Earth, Fire and Air with decent healing and group supporting abilities in Water, tanky in Earth, AoE damage in Fire and direct damage and some control in Air.

Some classes and races really go well together. Humans (preferably dressed in noble-looking gear) look the best as Mesmers in my opinion. Charr make awesome warriors, and Norns make cool Guardians. Sylvari obviously rangers with the fern wolf pet. I also like human females as Elementalists, they can really pull off the look and animations.

The awesomeness of Asura animations make them more enjoyable to play than other races.

Also, if you’re not an Asura, you’re a bookah, and who wants to be a bookah?

Keep in mind that between Necro and Elementalist you have one of the tankiest (necromancer, lots of hp plus a form that acts as a 2nd health bar when you trigger it) and the most squishy (Elementalist, lowest hp in the game with thief, cloth armor) classes.

Based on personal preferance I would go Elementalist, just find them more engaging to play.

thanks everyone for the awesome replies. i’m now 99.9% sure i’m going to be a elementalist. But i’m still finding it very difficult choosing between asura and human. i want your thought for the capital cities (visuals, size, AWESOMENESS!), personal story (voice acting, quests, humor?) and the character on the whole (looks good, feels comfortable, awesome animations) so now the battle of the races begins…FIGHT!

I think that the Human personal story is best polished because it was the first one in development. In my taste Humans has the most beautiful and the biggest capital city and Human areas look cheerful, peaceful, green and flowery.

I personally do not like futuristic technical, artificial and mechanical looking Asuran areas. Asuran personal story is jesting, ridiculous and comic. Some people may find it funny. I am a kind of a person who like serious stories that is why I have chosen Humans.

thanks for the reply i don’t mind a bit of humor but i like serious stories like you do. stories that make me care about the characters. but i’m still not sure if i should do humans. i like colored areas that look beautiful with that yaw dropping aesthetic. that’s why i’m not choosing charr. so if anyone has any suggestions or just want to share their favorite race please share.

I should have said “Human race as a whole” ( story, areas, dynamic events, capital city, bugs fixed,) is best polished and most tested.

I forgot about animations. Asura is definitely best. All of them. I have an Asura Warrior which is kinda against lore and type but their 100 blades animation is head and shoulders above the Norn and Charr, which I have. Asura just rocks across the board. The one area where the lack, in my opinion, is armor. Humans, with the possible exception of Norn female medium cultural T3 armor, is probably the best looking. I have a Norn female Ranger in T3 and she is the best looking of them all. Still recommending Asura though.

BTW, Elementalist is a fantastic class, I have one, but they are, in my opinion, the highest skill cap in the game. Whereas other classes have 2 weapon sets, Engineers are a little different, the Elementalist has, effectively, four weapon sets. Knowing what to use when takes more skill and effort than, say, a Mesmer or Necro, if you like the Scholar professions. Really depends on the kind of playstyle you like best. Elementalists are great and I always like to see one show up for a Dynamic event or whatever. They contribute a ton of damage. Asuras make for an excellent choice for the Scholar professions regardless. They are smarter after all.

Favorite race? It depends.

I have: 1 Sylvari, 1 Norn, 1 Charr, and 2 Humans (with a 3rd waiting in the wings).

Looking at it that way, I’d have to say Human.

On the other hand, the Norn have drawn me in the most, overall. At first, I wasn’t even terribly interested in them, but once I started playing one, I got hooked.

If we expand out from player races, my fave is the Skritt. Asura do nothing for me, but that’s purely to do with personal tastes. I think they’re quite distinctive, and I’ve recommended them to people who I’ve thought would dig ’em.

Favorite Profession: Mechanically, I find the Engineer to be the most compelling, because of its flexibility. But all my characters play differently, so it’s depends on what I’m in the mood for. My Elementalist is still my default, though I do think she’s had a very narrow path to viability. Consequently, the playstyle can get a little dull if I keep with it for too long.

I can’t play a Nercomancer. The graphics and audio grate on me too much.

I haven’t played enough to have a favorite, my highest is a norn female ranger, but I am enjoying my Char Engineer at the moment.

Asuras has really bad clipping issues (too small weapons clipping into armor, staves sticking trough the head and long asuran ears) so if you go for aesthetics take a human.

Human female voice over is perfect both in narrative part as well as in combat action samples. So if you favor hot chicks and tend to hear your pretty elementalist shout “Feeling Hot!” each time you attune to Fire go for Human Female

I really like the asuran animations myself. I just find them amusing to watch and those floppy ears bopping up and down.

I wish many a time I had made an asuran thief instead of a human. Nothing worn with human but I just like the asuran.
Norns just blot out the sun.

Humans, Norn & Charr for races. Don’t care for Asura or Sylvari. I have one of each profession, so I like most all of them. Some more than others. Guardian and Engineer are my current favorites, though that is always subject to change.

i’m thinking for using a male character and i really want a good personal story. so does human or asura have the best story?

also to note i’m not going to start playing guild wars 2 until the holidays midway in december
