Hi everyone who reads the General Discussion Forums!

I would like to ask the community for their ideas on what types of new abilities that would be fun and interesting to use while playing the game; focusing on skill shots in particular.

What is a skill shot, you ask?

Its an ability that usually casts a projectile at a targeted location linearly. It does not directly target an enemy, and is not usually an Area of Effect ability. Although there is some skill involved in using AoEs, however skill shots require more skill to use in terms of how they operate. In order to hit your enemy you generally have to predict their movements.

Keep in mind that the corner stone of combat in this game revolves mainly around Damage, Control, and Support roles. The professions typically do these roles from various lines (front, mid, and back lines) while in combat with varying degrees of effectiveness.

Be creative, such that it could be but does not have to be related to:

  1. New Weapons
  2. New Abilities for Existing Weapons and Professions
  3. New Utilities
  4. New Traits
  5. Something else?
  6. What would you like an Enemy to use against you?
  7. What would make you laugh while playing the game? Focus on this

Try to keep it related to skill shots that focus on one or a combination of the combat roles in terms of Damage, Control, and Support as much as possible.

Please try to emphasize Control and Support functions when suggesting general new abilities, because these two roles are desperately in need of enhancement for all professions. It does not need to be balanced- as this is purely a creative discussion.

No matter what, the ability must be fun or otherwise interesting to use!

New Weapons
- Whip / Chain Whip: for Rangers, Mesmers and Warriors

New Abilities for Existing Weapons and Professions
- Mainhand pistol for Mesmer: a fast-paced ranged mainhand. This wouldn’t have a phantasm, like scepter, but one of its abilities might generate a clone that shoots long range too.
- Shortbow for Mesmer: A weapon dedicated to CC. Shoots illusionary arrows. The phantasm archer deals AoE damage to a specific area. A better form of blast finisher can be tied to this.
- Stun rod Kit for Engineers: An electrifying rod that deals melee lightning damage. This is a survival-based kit, the abilities here are mostly defensive.
- Dual arcane swords conjured weapons for Elementalists: Arcane is the only flavor that got no conjured weapon. This is a good evasive tool, suited for survivability.
- Longbow for Guardian: I don’t play Guardian, but having a weapon that shoots holy arrows seems quite nice. Perhaps someone might have an idea for a niche to this weapon.

New Utilities
- Mesmer: A new elite skill that makes you copy the appearance and weapon abilities from enemies or allies for a few seconds.
- Engineer: A new elite skill that calls a magitech-powered heavy armor and cannon for you.

What would make you laugh while playing the game? Focus on this
- More custom voice emotes for abilities “I could outrun a centaur.” grows old. Put choices from serious to comical quotes here.
- WvW airship battles. Big airships, so players roam inside fixing things, battling invading player and NPC enemies, use cannons and such. A squad leader might control the movement of the ship making it collide with the enemy vessel.

[New Weapons]
- Rapiers(Yes, I do realize there’s a rapier skin) and similar thrusting weapons.
for Warriors, Mesmers, Rangers and Thieves
- Scythes(Yes, I realize there are also scythe skins for weapons)
for Warriors, Necromancers and Elementalists

[New Abilities for Existing Weapons and Professions]
- Rifle for Rangers(I think it’s fair; first time playing as a Ranger I was really surprised this isn’t an option)

[New Traits] [Some of these are jokes XD]
Warrior
[Traitorous Blade] – Your attacks have a bonus chance of inflicting poison, weakness or vulnerability. More effective with one-handed weapons.
[Hambow Nerf] – You know you’re good. Too good. In fact, it’s not even a challenge. You decide to give your opponents a fair chance. This trait grants you 10 stacks of bleeding each time you deliver a critical hit, a stun, knockback or knockdown.
Necromancer
[Responsible Motherhood] – You gain 3% bonus vitality for each active minion.
Mesmer
[Tricky Trick] – Decreases cooldown of a random weapon skill with each critical hit that is delivered to you. (2sec cooldown)
Guardian
[Viking Shrooms] – Decreases cooldown of all of your virtues with each critial hit you deliver. (3sec cooldown)
Ranger
[Petting] – Whenever your pet drops below the health threshold, it receives Regeneration. (Health threshold – 50%)
Engineer
[Yarrr!] – You deal 10% more damage while drunk.
Elementalist
[Water Blessing] – Your water skills have a chance of granting Protection to the nearby allies. (30%; 10sec cooldown)
Thief
[Team Spirit] – Each time you grant stealth to yourself or nearby allies, you gain Swiftness, Protection and Regeneration. (10sec cooldown)

What would make you laugh while playing the game?
More roleplay. Definitely. Adding plenty of new emotes. Maybe a costume brawl tournament? That would be pretty fun. Adding some costume-brawling NPCs. A tavern! Huge tavern when players can meet, possibly with some guy telling horrible jokes(like Mad King), cheesy music and drinking contests.

I hope you guys like my weird ideas. These aren’t balanced at all, but I’d love to see them in the game, even as jokes. XD

I’ve always wanted an elite signet on my Ele. Something earth themed since that’s the most signet heavy tree, and we don’t have an earth themed elite yet anyway.

  • Signet of Tectonics
    Passive: Gain stability as you are moving.
    Active: Stop and erupt the ground around you, knocking enemies down (1.5s), and applying bleeding (8 stacks, 8 seconds). (Max 5 targets)

i want each profession to have its own unique weapon that noone else can use

warrior: great axe (2 handed)

engineer: shotgun (very slow and short range but wide coneshot)

ranger: whip: (mostly pet modifying skills)

theif: bo staff (a really short staff, remember when they used staffs in gw1 for entangling asp builds and shadow form?)

casters: (sorry for lumping u all together but ur just so similar) orb and rod, each can be wielded seperatley for a full list of skills but together they provide a new list
