I have enjoyed every single map I’ve adventured through so far, and I’ve come across this place. I’m level 80 now and I still find it extremely aggravating getting through it.

Can’t take 3 steps without getting jumped on by ten mobs. Mobs that are ranged and steal health/burn/cripple/immobilize. Not to mention its litered with Veteran mobs who do the same thing.

I’m on Gates of Madness and its a pretty populated server. But take a look at the screenshot I’m about to attach. Nearly all the waypoints are contested. This is beyond frustrating, and thats not even all of it.

Atleast 2 of the skill points here are bugged. The one at Balth temple, and the next at the Steppes.

There is a point of interest that is ONLY OBTAINABLE IF YOU DO THE MAIN STORY. I love playing through a forced story.

Sigh, please revamp this map.

I agree, Orr is way too littered with mobs. Pull one pull 5.

I actually like the danger.
But what I don’t like is how bugged DEs can stop progression in it’s tracks.
When I first got to SoD, some DEs were bugged and a gate couldn’t be destroyed. I just had to sit there and wonder how to find a way in.

To me the aggravating are zombies with insane movement speed, it’s ridiculously cheesy.

I don’t like the bugs, but they’ll be fixed. I do like the danger though, it’s fitting for a high level zombie stronghold. Orr is meant for groups and it’s fun when played like that.

I really hope you are joking, as you go towards the highest level map you expect to have a stroll in a park? Straits and cursed shore are best maps in the game

Straits of Devastation and Malchors Leap (wrong spelling I know), whilst buggy at the moment are part of the Orr continent. This is Zhaitan’s stronghold, pay attention to the area, the area around Fort Trinity on southern Tyria is still relatively safe, it’s only when you cross the Strait does it become “annoying”.

Those two areas are meant to be in a constant state of flux and you’re meant to be part of the fight against the endless undead. If you want easier areas (even level 80 easier) head back to the continent where all the mobs aren’t being willed on by a Dragon to destroy you.

These features are not a design oversight, they are there to support how hostile Orr is, so get your friends/guildies, get involved in the fight and get some sweet rewards.

I was playing through my story quest here today and to my horror, 14 of the 19 waypoints in this zone were being contested. Something has to change, whether about this zone or the way WPs are contested. it’s ridiculous

Hmm, they are supposed to be the most difficult areas on the map, and they aren’t even THAT difficult (compared with dungeons they are a walk in the park) What exactly were you expecting? To be able to run through the entire map unchallenged? If anything these areas should be harder. More challenging events should be added for contested waypoints.

Hopefully the bugged events are fixed soon.

The Orr maps are not for single players. I think that’s good as it is, because in all seriousness, a single player just bashing his way into the probably most hostile enemy territory in the game? Come on, that’s way past ridiculous.

These maps are meant to be played in larger groups, they’re meant to be challenging even then, and the big meta-events on those maps are like actual invasion/battle-campaigns.
Bugs that may appear will be fixed in time, and aside from those, these maps are absolutely amazing.
It will probably become easier once more players hit level 80, though.

So I should be in a position where I have to pay people money to go uncontest a waypoint for me, or have to run for 20 minutes through throngs of mobs just to be able to continue my story

The bugged events and skill points sure are annoying.

Having that out of the way, though, I must say I absolutely love this map.
Just to get through safely or to farm there, you should be in a group. Pretty much like for a dungeon, except it doesn’t have to be 5 people. These groups of a few people then meet and create bigger groups when engaging in events. I call this map “an open raid dungeon”. I like it more than dungeons because it’s free for everyone and not instanced for just a few.

The problem is that too many WPs are contested, but I believe that will change when more people hit level 75-80. Give it a month or two.

My guild found that even groups of 2 or 3 were enough to get anywhere on the map reliably, except for the buggy Temple of Lyssa, with its constant massive respawns even after it was claimed.

Solo was quite a chore, but even small groups made it manageable and fun. You still have to kill your way around rather than simply run past mobs like you can do on “lesser” maps.

The stuck events and skill points REALLY need fixed, and I’m just wondering why no fixes have been pushed out in the past four days.

I saved Frostgorge Sound for last, and it felt like a calm, relaxing breeze after the Orr maps.

20 mins of running for your story? Where are you trying to run?! I could easily run from Fort Trinity to Arah in less than 20 mins and perhaps even make it back in time.

Except for the bugged skillpoints there’s nothing wrong with these maps. They’re in the heart of enemy territory. You’re standing in front of Zhaitans stronghold, a dragon with almost unlimited minions at his disposal. Of course it’s not going to be a walk in the park.

Huh… honestly scratching my head here….

Not trying to be a elitist or anything, honestly, but do you guys really have trouble getting around Orr solo?

Well, just in case a few of you didn’t know, if you turn off auto-targeting in options, you can use all of your rush, escape, and leap skills freely without flying into mobs. Makes travel/combat escapes pretty easy and efficient.

I just find the

“Can’t take 3 steps without getting jumped on by ten mobs.”

statement a little exaggerated.

It’s certainly possible to travel around solo, but it’s a bit faster & (in my opinion) more fun in a group.

Nothing wrong with the zones apart from some bugs.

As for contested points – do you have very few 80’s on your server, OP? On Gunnar’s Hold at least, Orr is very busy and the points don’t stay contested for long. Maybe you just need to give it a week for more people to get to Orr.

I absolutely loved the danger of these zones. I was playing for about 4 hours with one of my guildies, we got killed several times (the gorram risen casters especially) but when we completed the zone, it was an absolute rush. However the bugs in all 3 of the Orr maps are pretty annoying, to the point where I’m becoming used to them, something that should never happen in my opinion. “Huh another bugged skill point, oh well come back in 3 days or so” >.<

Except it is a walk in the park. I’ve never died running around trying to get to story waypoints. It’s just irritating to be constantly engaged in combat when you aren’t interested, and irritating that are lots of blocked off routes… high road and low road not connecting. Sure a lot of events are “hard” but that’s because there’s population issues in the area. When people zerg on something it rolls over like every other area.

I wish I felt like you that it was a cool challenging area, but it just feels more like the poorly tested area compared to how smooth and accessible other areas play.

Bugs aside (since we all – Anet included, Im sure, agree on that), Orr isnt an area that is intended to be tackled alone. If your server is having a hard time holding points, group up with 4-5 guild mates (or total strangers) and make an organized push. It is a lot of fun.

What do you mean? I completed the Straits exploration a few days before i caught up to that zone in my personal quest.
