To be more explicit, I already have one of each profession. Each is fully geared in a mix of exotics and ascended and has a full set of traits. If there isn’t a new profession to go with a new race, there’s little incentive for me to make a second profession that I already have, relevel, regear and go through the trouble of getting the traits for it.
From what you have written, you seem to believe that Tengu coming in Heart of Thorns is a given as long as Anet doesn’t want to anger its’ community.
I wouldn’t want to have mindset myself to avoid future pacepalms.
none.. cause even if with a miracle they actually do add them… i dont wanna see how the armor looks. Charr armor is already borderline insulting (if compared to other races) and tengu and charr do share the fact that they are rather far away from human anatomy and we see how wonderfull the charr get treated if it comes to armor. No tail holes 90% of the time, no fitting helmets that respect the headshape, barely any armor that reflects the charr culture..(ya know the fact they are industrial levels of advancement) what makes you think tengu get it better and so on. Given that tengu got tail feathers like a charr got a tail, their heads are longer then human like heads like charr got and the “lol dont care” attitude of a-net if it comes to anything but human (and human like) armors i really dont wanna have em. Rather no tengu then dissapointing ones. Also.. if they add em.. they need to refit aaaaaaall the armor in game to go with them… so yea.. sorry for dream crushing but im 99% sure there wont be any tengu. Maybe another humaniod race.. but surely nothing “beastly”.
Tengu Necromancer.
I’ll have the whole Plague Doctor angle and maybe reference Poe’s The Raven as his name and for the hell of it, Mad King Runes.
I’ll probably also make a Ranger Tengu but if the heavy armor looks good on them, Guardian Tengu instead.
I would make a magpie-themed thief tengu… hehe
honestly tired of Animal Races
Warrior
Ranger
Guardian
Engineer
Necromancer
Elementalist
Thief
Mesmer
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
So… Everybody is asking for Tengu since launch and now that Mordremoth is rising, Tengu might be forced to leave their walls to face this new threat that appears to be… Quite near them.
So back to the question. What profession will your Tengu be? I was thinking about making a Phoenix inspired Tengu as an elementalist.
I certainly have never asked, wanted, desired Tengu as a race ..so its at least everbody MINUS 1.
The equipment, armor animation work would in my singular opinion make having Tengu a large waste of resources.I would much prefer anyway another of the humanised races from GW1 , I miss my spear wielding paragon most.

They would have to do that with any race humanoid or not, not one of the races in the game share the exact same armors, not even humans/norns/sylvaris, so yeah

Not to mention, I probably would just say Anet shouldn’t release any new race at all if that race is going to be a copy of human but with different color skin (they could put that in the makeover kit!). Nah, it’s just be wasted time and effort if a new race is just reskinned human.
That doesn’t mean such a race would have to be ‘beastly’, but from what we see of Tyria, what else could a race be but beastly? Even humans are apes. But yeah, all the other races resemble something, be it rats or manta rays.
Thief. No question about it. He will be a dual Dagger/dual Pistol wielding ninja that would make John Woo shed a tear of pride.

The Tengu have the same general body plan as Charr so armor shouldn’t be a special problem. Animations? Every new race will need its own set of animations to make it separate enough from the other races, even the “human” races will need their own set. I don’t see that adding Tengu will be a lot of extra work for armor or animations.

well Sylvari ain’t exactly “a copy of human but with different color skin”, yet are very much humanoid (though i give you Norn are just bigger humans)
Personally i would simply LOVE to play as a skritt

Well what other race could Anet introduce that even partially seems humanoid and is more than just a skin color swap/body accessory (i.e. pointed ears or horns or tail) that exists in the lore of the game? The Mursaat? Just human models with tiny wing appendages.
Most of the really cool races in Tyria are varied like the Krait. The last thing I’d want Anet to do is release something like the Dwarves (but if you can pick the type of minerals they’re made of, that’d be kind of neat).
I have 2 spare character slots waiting for a new race to be added, and 2 professions I don’t yet have a character for, Warrior and Thief. So putting the two together, if Tengu do happen in HoT, I’d be making a Tengu for each of those two professions.
Even if a new profession were added as well, I’d probably still go Warrior / Thief for my Tengu, and use the new profession on another race (probably Asura, since I only have 1 Asura right now along with 3 Charr and 2 Sylvari). Since I expect a lot of people would go for Tengu “newclass” combinations, and I’d want to be a bit different.
There is one small caveat to making a Tengu thief, though. Both of my current Medium Armor classes right now are Charr. And the Charr medium armor pool is… well, lets just say its not exactly amazing. Coats on Charr are (mostly) bad looking IMO, what with the massive tail clipping as well as the fact that a big coat would seem to impair a Charr’s ability to run on 4 legs, so the pool for usable medium armor skins for Charr is pretty slim. And if Tengu end up using the same armor models due to similarities in body structure, that would mean a 3rd character drawing from that same armor set. Not sure if I’d want that, I already regret having 2 of them at times, though I’m far too attached to them to delete either of them.
For me it will depend on which armor will look the best on them. Also if there will be a new profession, I will most likely combine it with a new race.

If done right, they could look very interesting. The feather colors could make this a beautiful or interesting race. The ones we see at the gates will be the blandest ones since they are essentially placeholders.
Dark Knight since they look like Batman now… Well.. Literal Batman.

Does the <> mean != ? Since I would assume that one of the considerations there would be if the hypothetical new class is a heavy armour class…
Me, I’m going to wait and see. I already have a character of each profession and the current trait system doesn’t exactly infuse me with enthusiasm for starting an alt of a profession I already have, so much as I love the tengu as a race, I could see myself giving them a miss.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

Yes, in VB.net and in Tsql.
I don’t want to make a new light armor class, so I would only play a new class if it was a heavy or medium.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I’d like the concept of heavily armored combat ritualist with spears/x/javelins, four ghosts as mechanics, enchanting their weapons like in the first game. And them being Tengu with possibly some Aztec/Feudal Japan feeling on top of it.

ew, visual basic, also your function calls are wrong, and you should use underscores instead of spaces, or quotation marks depending if you want them to be consts or strings
No there is no evidence, but it’s a possibility. I don’t see why any other race should be added now and if they won’t be adding new races with new dragons, then when? This game is already boring without any freshness. “The Tengu Wall” track was added to Maguuma few months ago. There is a minipet called “Tsuru Whitewind”, it still could be just a simple name for a minipet, but also could be a hint as there is not a Tengu with that name in the game yet. And most of all Tengu was a candidate for a playable race before launch and maybe they already had them done, who knows. Otherwise you people are overly sceptic or just afraid of having a new non-boring race in your game among your human clones.
I don’t blame you with being sceptic though. I didn’t mind living story content, I love lore and it was free, but if I’ll need to pay for HoT, simple lore isn’t worth the money.

I thought similar but kept my mouth shut XD
Also, wouldn’t you use == if yours comparing variables/values? Is been a while since I buffed around with some of those older coding languages.

I just wanted to illustrate my idea, and VB makes a more “pretty” code for people that doesn’t code to read, currently 80% of my job is with SQL Server and I use VB.net to create CLRs for my DB.
Something like this would scare the people:
Function NewClass () as Boolean
Dim Counter as int
For each class in GW2.classes
Counter = Counter+1
Next
If Counter > 8 then
NewClass = True
else
NewClass = False
end if
end function
Sub CreateCharacter(Class as string)
<Character creation code goes here>
end sub
if NewClass() = true and GW2.Classes(9).ArmorType.ToString <> "Light" then
CreateCharacter(GW2.Classes(9).name)
else
If [heavy tengu cultural armor] = "samurai theme" then
CreateCharacter(GW2.Classes("Guardian").name)
else
CreateCharacter(GW2.Classes("Ranger").name)
end if
end if
Also, wouldn’t you use == if yours comparing variables/values? Is been a while since I buffed around with some of those older coding languages.
In C languages, Java among others yes, in VB languages and Tsql no.

Also, if the concept art is any indication, their beak shapes would be an important structure to customize the different faces of the Tengu to derive different species of bird sorry of like the Charr and their horns. And like you mentioned, plumage patterns! Birds are extremely diverse, far more than felines so the possibilities, from wing shapes to any color under the sun, can be a reference.

I found this picture also.

Yes, please. Such variety. This looks so sexy. :o
Honestly tired of humanoid races – Tengu would be very welcome! I’d create one right away!
If they introduce another race, they then have to provide the equivalent of the Personal Story for that race. While I’m not saying it’s impossible, or even completely unfeasible, I rather doubt they have done this. People have also been asking for mounts since before launch, and as we all know, that’s never happening.
So… To be clear. I know no one ever announced Tengu will become playable in Heart of Thorns (Whatever that is actually), but I think if it’s going to be an expansion, releasing Tengu as a new playable race is quite logical. Everybody is asking for Tengu since launch and now that Mordremoth is rising, Tengu might be forced to leave their walls to face this new threat that appears to be… Quite near them. They would be affected by it somehow and I don’t see their little walls being strong enough to hold off a dragon. Beside that, everybody is already so hyped about this possibility that not releasing Tengu is a shot in the foot. People will eat Anet in the forums and I think they know that. xD
Quaggan begs to differ.
I’d go with monk or ritualist.
Whatever new class pops up, if any.
If not, warrior and/or elementalist.
Not mesmer. I have.. too many as it is. >_>

That’s a very good point.
Let’s say the Living Story goes into Cantha, which is a really good time to put Tengu in the game. Let’s say they even give us a new character slot. Will only Tengu have a personal story for that area or will the old players also get an addition to their personal story? If it’s Tengu only, that forces people who hate beast races or only play one char to make and play a Tengu. It also means they will need to do a whole set of personal stories in addition to the living story line.
If they add Tengu now, will that be the only race that doesn’t have a personal story or will they go back and add them to the Zhaitan story line? (Adding is extremely unlikely imo because of costs. Not really worth it for one race that not everyone will play and only a fraction of those will do the Zhaitan story).
Imo, personal story is dead and they will never make another. It’s been replaced with Living Story. But this makes adding new races awkward as the old ones will have a personal story and the new ones will not, confusing and upsetting new people who buy the game, make a (new race) and find out their char is “second rate” story wise.
ANet might have shot themselves in the foot when it comes to new races.
I don’t agree, because you will need to buy the expansion to get Tengu in the first place. New players if they’re smart, won’t buy the expansion before the base game, because I suppose it won’t work anyway. It sounds like you deny the game a touch of progress simply because new players will be confused. Tengu would appear in a expansion, so it’ll be obvious and very natural that their personal story would take place further in the lore than the base game did. This is what people call expansion, which means expanding all the game had to offer until now.

Except they have said they might not have expansions. That they want see if they can open up and expand through the use of the Living Story.
None, if the trait system isn’t revamped. Again.
If the Pact is no more, what stops new races from gaining totally new Personal Story, shared with rest of the players from some point, focusing on Mordremoth?
I mean, up to level 20 you could easily not even go out of Dominium, maybe new territory. After that, you just deal with Mordremoth.
Join an Order and you don’t give a single kitten about Zhaitan, because he’s dead for 3 in-game years now.

Well the next part of the story doesn’t need to go to Cantha for the Tengu. They’re right next to the pale tree so no need for pushing the story to a fast off place, at least not at first.
And of course they’d have a personal story, it’s just caught up with recent events. Remember, the Tengu chose not too help directly against Zhaitan. You can’t change that now unless there’s a story to tell about what the Tengu were doing in the meantime. No, not even that would work all that well. With the whole Mordremoth deal, it’d likely push the Tengu into action especially with how close the dragon attacks are to them.
I don’t see it as a huge issue of just making their personal story new. You don’t have to play a Tengu to experience it because the living story will likely continue ever with an expansion.
Tengu, humans and charr are the 3 races with a lore setting that makes them work with all professions, without making an ‘unusual’ character.
In GW1, the only profession they didn’t have was Dervish.
Still, if you had to pick only one profession from each class, the best choices would be:
- Warrior.
- Ranger.
- Mesmer.
For a second batch, you’d go with:
- Guardian.
- Thief.
- Elementalist.
But if they released a 3rd soldier profession, I’ll go with that one first, probably. That, or stick with the setting choices, and make a sylvari, and asura and a charr of the 3rd soldier profession instead.

I wasn’t saying that the next part of the story is going to Cantha. I was saying that there are two sets of problems with personal story and new races depending on if they put a new race in now or wait till they go to Cantha.
And no, there is no guarantee there will be personal story ever again. That is likely replaced by the Living Story.
