I’ve heard about it before getting bombarded by it. Now that it has happened I find it unacceptable. Never mind people with views on whether buying gold is legit. Now my chat box has turned into an advertising platform. With eye catching maroon and a message designed to cover the entire box without being truncated, it’s hard to miss even when you’re being chased by 10 people in wvw.

Anet needs to implement the option to allow only people in my friend list to PM me, (and possibly, also a gold charge to be deducted from the whisperers not on my list).

I’m still confused about why they haven’t put a chat filter on the websites url, the tech is already in game since launch just add in the part between the www. and .com both in single string and with spaces between each letter and other variants and just make the advertising part of it more difficult.

Exactly, so why even bother closing them?

Don’t you think that option kind of ruins alot of aspects of playing an mmorpg? Not trying to attack you I understand why your frustrated I just don’t know of a way to solve the problem without adverse effects other than heavy policing of it.

They are opening the game to the chinese market, where there has absolutely never been a gold seller presence.

What are they doing about it?

Why, they’re condensing players onto fewer maps, making it easier for the gold sellers to quickly gather lists of targets to spam just by looking around.

….or is that WHY it’s gotten worse? I’m not sure.

You could try specifying what server you are on?
I play on the US servers, SoS, and haven’t had any gold sellers PM me since a few months after launch, and I very very rarely see them in map chat.

Also NonToxic, the fact that the game has been released in China means absolutely nothing for us. They’re playing on completely separate servers and can’t access ours. They are separated from us more than NA and EU are separated from one another. So we don’t really have anything to worry about…
