Does anyone know what anet is thinking of making outfits into armor skins? I can’t find any official statements in the forums or the internet.

I don’t see why they would, since outfits can already be worn over armour at all times.

They moved to the outfits as being their (seemingly) preferred method of delivering new armor type skins. This is likely because it is easier for them to code and avoid clipping issues since you can’t mix and match the outfit pieces. This is extremely disappointing and a step backwards in the industry, but easier means less development time and money and that is the way Anet seems to be heading.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

outfit is an outfit that you “wear” over your current armor. It does not require any transmutations and you can hide or unhide your outfit at any time.
To change armor skins, then you would need to transmute an armor skin from it’s current state to the “new” permanent skin.

edit adding: in my opinion it’s more for Role players or those that just want to throw on something festive. ie Role players may choose to don a chef’s outfit while they are crafting or gathering cooking items. Or for halloween just throw on your witches costumer or for wintersday throw on one of the wintersday outfits.

So you also don’t know of an official statement by anet? I mean sure I could express my disappointment, and how easy it would be to change those outfits into armor (/irony off) and thus making hundreds of new possibilities for new mixed armors and that other armors also have clipping issues, etc pp…, but I asked for an official statement so I won’t start another flame thread and so this thread could be closed with just one answer.

They did say this about the old town clothes and why those weren’t made into armor instead of costumes and why they are now making costumes instead of armor.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/21k4j8/curtis_johnson_on_the_town_clothes_issue/
“When we started looking at bringing more of the clothing back into armor with mix and match styles there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece).. There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together. So we needed something new to continue to grow in the future. Outfits give us a way to create highly stylized looks that aren’t constrained to armor slots or weight class".

What I get out of this is, they are saying the look of a costume can’t be easily translated across all armor types because the different armor weights are set up differently. At the very least it would require 3 separate armor designs, instead of the one for a costume.

You do realize you posted on a public forum, right? You should expect public expression on the topic, otherwise the better avenue is putting in a ticket (which will likely get a generic answer). Anet has said time and time again that they watch the forums, but don’t respond to most as they simply do not have the time/resources. Furthermore if you look at the track record of any Anet employee directly answering any vague question like this has been, you’d know that they are next to nill. They aren’t allowed to talk about such things in most cases.

So, it seems like you are either blissfully unaware of how these forums work, or your statement was very much a troll post. In either case, getting player responses should be fully expected.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

I’m sorry, english is not my mature language and I may have put the question in a misleading direction but you may have realized that I was not asking anet on purpose but the other forum users, because I am indeed fully aware that anet does not like to respond to these kind of special questions.

Edit: Astral Projection, thank you this was kind of what I was looking for.
