I understand why not all crafting components are going to be added, but just the insignias/inscriptions would help a lot.

Alright folks, here we go. I have said that we would look into the material storage system to determine if we could reduce the current restrictions on what is allowed to be deposited there. We have completed that investigation and are ready to talk about what all of you wish could be deposited into storage that currently cannot be. So, please, post your suggestions in our official forums—offered in English, French, German, and Spanish—or post in the inevitable Reddit thread that links back to this post. The Comms team and I will be monitoring those places for your suggestions and gathering your feedback. In about a week or so we will pool those suggestions in order to weigh their validity, and if there are any popular suggestions that are not desirable or possible, I will follow up to explain why. If I find that the number of valid suggestions exceeds the quantity we reasonably can add, we might have to talk about priorities. But for now, let’s pretend that the sky is the limit for the purposes of this discussion.

Here are some guidelines, to head off any paths that will not be fruitful for you:
• No Crafted Components. There are simply too many of them and I categorically refuse to add them all. I will not budge on this. There might be some one-offs I am willing to consider, but if your suggestion is that every single Boot Sole, Soup Stock, Jewelry Setting, and Weapon Haft should go in, you have become Sisyphus and that boulder is never making it to the top of the hill. Give up now.
• No Keys. I totally understand how much folks want this (my shared inventory slots are largely taken up by keys, so I get it!) but putting keys into material storage is not a viable way for you to get a key ring. Sorry.
• No pure Salvageables. I’m looking at you, Lumps of Raw Ambrite. If an item’s only use case is to salvage it into another item that can be put into material storage, then just salvage those items if you want them out of your inventory.

And now, commence with the suggestions!

Maybe someone has said this in the 400 responses, but I feel that anything used as a crafting material should have a storage space. Any other non-crafting items can go into bank and guild bank spaces.

Blade Shards – yay for storage, bonus to expectations.

On a side-note: bringing back the Zephyr vendor that took them would also be nice for peeps who have ‘too many’ Blade Shards especially as they still drop from the Watchwork node and the only use for them is for the Spinal Blade backpacks (different team, nudge-nudge, wink-wink). And until the LS1 comes back and/or another supply of Assault Cores enters the game; I don’t think they need a slot of their own. If people have that many cores they can start selling them off or make use of the bankspace they’re squirrelling them away for their rainy day funds.

So this is my thinking behind my choices and what I presume is the thinking here: it’s more common items that we potentially can utilise.

Scribing stuff:

  • Crystalline Bottle
  • Milling Basin
  • Bag of Mortar
Most of the other vendor-sold components get a slot like Jug of Water, Primordium, Spools of Thread, etc. get a slot so these should too for definite. I’d also like:
    *Tub of Wood Glue
    *Bolt of Embroidered Silk

.. which are sold by the guild trader (and on TP) but it would be nice to save them up for later usage. Obviously might affect their worth on the TP.

Outside desire: the rare trophies:

  • Lumber Cores: Alpine, Arid, Ascalonian, Coastal, Palm and Krytan
  • Feldspar Core
  • Lamp Finial
  • Essence of Light and Essence of Elegence
  • Giant Mushroom Spore
  • Rare Flower Seed and Jungle Grass Seed
  • Auric Crown
  • Pristine Feather
  • Festive Transom
  • Pruning Shears
  • Visages of Balthazar, Lyssa, Melandru, Dwayna, Grenth, Kormir
  • Ascalonian Blueprints

Pipe-dream level of storage solution as they take up space and if they drop for newer scribes it’d be nice to have the storage be dynamic.

Super Adventure Box:

  • Baubles
  • Bauable Bubbles

Miscellaneous:

  • Blood Ruby
  • Petrified Wood
  • Any future map currencies
  • Doubloons: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum
  • Medallions, Crests and Amalgamated Gemstones
  • Shimmering/Tenebrous Crystals

Agree with this assessment. Without an Assault Core supply, the blade shards aren’t useful to me but I keep getting them as drops and saving them in the vain hope I could make another backpack. It would be nice to be able to spend them at the vendor again.

On a similar note, adding another item to my wishlist (or hoping to bring back a vendor for this too):
- Found Heirloom
- Festival Token
- Bauble / Bubble Baubles
- Continue Coins
- Wintersday Gifts

Probably a good idea to add bloodstone rubies and petrified wood for the guild upgrades.

Would it be at all possible to extend the number that you can have in a stack in the bank in regards to abundant ascended materials, such as piles of bloodstone dust, dragonite ore, and empyreal fragments – I have SO many stacks laying in ‘bank’ characters’ inventories…

Boosters, Black Lion Chests, doubloons, tonics, and everything that you can get from the black lion chests (bank access, merchants, etc)

you should not be able to put a bank access express in your bank.

I’m not arguing!

About the scribe materials: Would it be possible for you to create a guild material storage that takes the different lumber cores, defensive maps of the mists and similar stuff? That way, people could donate all of their scribe materials to the guild without them disappearing forever in everyone’s personal material storage, and the guild scribes that have the matching guild rights could use them for crafting just like the decorations are already used.

-Agony Infusions Fills in the bank even though it is used as a form of crafting mat/currency for upgrading.

-Tenebrous Crystal Crafting mat that is just filling up in the bank.

-Bricks of Clay another mat that is filling my bank.

-Mystic Forge Stones Also a form for “mat”.

-Blade Shards also just is in my bank taking up space.

-Philosopher stone I promote a lot so I buy big bulks but I delete them when I am done if there are any left, because I don’t want them wasting space. Would be nice to have them in the material storage as accidently pressing the deposit all materials would have no extra negativ effect as the mats I was using would also just go into the bank anyway.

-Black Lion Chest just clogs up my inventory

-Amalgamated Gemstone When I do my guild farms I am always afraid I might accidentally sell them as I cannot press “deposit material” and it would just be nice.

-Mystic Crystal same as with Philosopher stone.

-Milling Basins expensive and they fill my bags/bank in an unnecessary way.

-Writ of Experience Gotta wait until I have 20 to even use anyway.

-Tome of Knowledge Gotta wait until my credit card is full so I can buy new character slots anyway.

One thing I noticed in the material storage forum chat was the listing of the crowbars, chak acid etc. One thing I find is that I will be out on a character doing a map completion or a meta and realize I have left everything on another character or in the bank. I know they do not meet the level for material storage because they have no crafting value. Could we add them to the wallet so they are cross character?

Also I would love to see Gift of <enter name here> added to the material storage. They are a crafting component and you cannot salvage them to something lower. When you have 19 toons with 100% personal story, map, and development completion……..you end up with quite a few of them. Plus you have the holiday gifts like mad king stuff etc. If its listed in the material storage as an option people might strive harder to fill an empty slot……I know I would.

Mystic Stones
Blade Shards
Vision Crystals (both kinds)
Doubloons
Tenebrous crystals
Shimmering crystals
Milling basin
Amalgamated gemstones
Doubloons

Blood rubies
Petrified wood

And I agree with this person who said
- philosopher’s stones
- mystic crystals
although I have so many spirit shards, wasting these by deleting the extras isn’t a concern for me personally.

And for me, the things that I wish to keep but clog up my inventory the most – the things that would benefit me (and my kids on their accounts) the most if they were out of my bank – are tonic and other consumable bundle items: rotten eggs, toilet paper, . My kids could actually keep and use them.

Anything you need a ton of for crafting, not counting Mystic Forge crafting. Blade Shards come to mind. Milling Stones, too. Those are annoying. Multiple crafts can use them but only Chef vendors sell them, so you’ve gotta either mosey on over to a Master Chef every time you run out(even if you’re in the Guild Hall doing Scribing stuff…seriously, every crafting vendor should sell them), or commit bank space to keeping them on hand at all times.

What should NOT be added, imo, but are listed a lot in this thread:

  • Gifts for legendary crafting; seriously why do people list these? Don’t they count as Linsey’s “definitely not” crafted components?

People are listing the Exploration Gifts which you get just for completing maps. If you’re not 100% sure you’ll never ever ever craft a legendary, they are time consuming enough to gather that you need to hold onto them, which uses a slot for something that you won’t be accessing very often.

I agree that Gifts one only crafts by intent shouldn’t use up Mat Storage, but those HoT Map Gifts and World Completion Gifts can happen to players not specifically going for them.

People are listing all gifts, though. Some more specific than others. I can maybe agree with the mapping ones, but that’s just one slot (two if you map all of HoT and Core). That’s not a big deal at all.

But folks are adding the crafted ones and the dungeon gifts too, which need to be made first. And let’s face it: if you don’t have the space for those gifts, why make/buy them?

The reason to make/buy these early is that Anet can sneakily change how you get them at any time, like they did with the Gift of Battle. Who knows when they may decide to gyp you out of a Gift of Thorns that you planned to buy with your tokens, by making it a PvP track, instead? They won’t care that you didn’t buy it before they made the change because you were out of bank space. Nor will they care about how unhappy you are about having to earn the gift again, and having to play a game-type that you don’t want to play.

First off…Thanks Linsey for posting this and taking our input into consideration.

My list pretty much has already been mentioned in the many posts here:

Almagamated Gemstones
Forge Stones
Milling Basins
Vision Crystals
Anything used for Scribing(I’m ok with having those deposit into Guild Storage as well as someone previously suggested…anything to get them off my toon. )
Doubloons
Blade Shards(you’ve already said those should be added.)

I can understand why the Petrified Wood and Blood Rubies woudl be tough for a wallet as a currency, as they are also salvageable…so no wallet for them…but maybe a place in storage.

Thanks again.

My youngest daughter has a character dedicated to collecting tonics. She loves moving around (mostly in the cities ) in different tonic forms, and makes sure she has one or more of as many types of tonic as she can get.

Actually one of her first trips outside of a city was exploration of the caledon forest in pink quaggan transformation (with one of my guardians as a bodyguard). Walking around transformed and unable to fight somehow made her feel safer .

I’d love a tonic tab in the wardrobe similar to the finisher one that takes both endless and limited-use tonics. Goofing around with friends and guildies in transformation form is one thing I really enjoy, but the tonic I’d love to use is almost never on the character I’m on at that moment.

But, they can both be salvaged for Unbound Magic…so it makes them a unique kind of ‘salvageable’ currency. So the argument can be made for both cases.

I definitely do not know the best answer for those 2 specific items…but I share the wish that they would be put somewhere…storage or wallet…but storage seems to make a little more sense since you can take them out of a Mat Storage spot easier than getting them back out of the wallet in case you need to salvage some. So I lean more toward a Mat Storage spot.

The answer is extremely simple. Treat them exactly like pristine fractal relics. Throw rubies and petrified wood directly into the wallet, and let players buy sacks of unbound magic for 1 ruby/wood each and open them to convert.

Just because something is taking up space unnecessarily does not mean that it needs to go in mat storage. Way too many people in this thread (not you, just in general) are just trying to turn mat storage into a huge second bank where they can store boosters, BLTC items, currencies, keys etc…… That is not what mat storage is for.

As a crafter, this thread made me so happy!

Since we already have slots for Ingots (metal), Bolts (cloth) and Squares (leather), all of which are crafted materials used as the base for most recipes, what about adding the most basic and commonly used cooking ingredients:

Ball of Dough (36 recipes)
Ball of Cookie Dough (15 recipes)
Pile of Salt and Pepper (26 recipes)
Baker’s Wet Ingredients (23 recipes)
Baker’s Dry Ingredients (25 recipes)
Cream Soup Base (15 recipes)
Loaf of Bread (only 12 recipes but it’s soulbound)

… and possibly also:
Roux – because it’s the base for a lot of sauces (and that cream soup base).
White Frosting – because it seems to be a base ingredient for most of the frosted cake recipes?
Ice Cream Base – ditto for ice cream recipes.

(Also +1 to those who suggested a tonic wardrobe tab. I would collect the baby-cats out of those things if I had someplace convenient to keep them.)

If possible, I need a place to store a vast amount of skulls I have from defeating pvp’ers over the years. Maybe under ingredients, as I use them to make, and as I like to call it “once it was alive soup” with them.

“I got a fever! And the only prescription, is more COWBELL!”

Great topic Linsey, here are my suggestions:
- Blade Shards,
- Shimmering Crystals,
- Mystic Forge Stones,
- Unidentified Dyes,
- +1 Agony Infusion (if possible all of them…),
- Gifts of Exploration,

And some unlikely things that would be great to get deposited with “deposit all materials”.
- Tomes of Knowledge,
- Potions of PvP Reward,
- Blood Rubies
- Petrified Wood
- Rotten Eggs
- Toilet Paper

Thank you!
