Would consumable foods be off the table? I understand that there are a lot of different ones so I can see this being an unreasonable request but I figured I’d ask anyway. It would be nice to be able to bank, at the very least, level 80 foods and/or utility consumables (think Sharpening Stones, Maintenance Oil, etc. since there are a lot less of those).

Edit: Also if it hasn’t been said, Vision Crystals!

Hey, just a quick thought and a little bit off topic, what about all the level 80 food and potion buffs. Might be easy to just add them to the material deposit so it’s easy to make alot of them just to deposit for other characters to use.

Definitely not. There are way too many of them and I don’t think Material Storage is an appropriate place to store that stuff.

Please remember that this is “Material Storage”. Not “Stuff I Don’t Want To Spend Bank Slots On Storage”. Items that are not used in crafting or mystic forge recipes are VERY unlikely to be chosen. Sigils, Runes, Tomes of Knowledge, Boosters, etc are all not going to be chosen to add.

EDIT: That said, I am still very seriously considering things like Chak Eggs, Blood Rubies, and Petrified Wood.

Yeah, let’s not forget it’s about Material Storage. For those suggesting Boosters, Sigils and stuff… if it would be added, think about what would happen to those when you choose Deposit Material O.o

That’s also a good way to think of it actually. Think on what would be good to be simply stored by hitting Deposit Material.

And my suggestions: pretty much what others said but one I can recall from top of my mind is Pile of Auric Dust. I have almost a row in bank filled with those :/

I agree about blade shards, chak eggs, mysitic forge stones, etc. I also suggest resonating slivers.

I undertsand why you don’t want to put crafted things in. Would it be hard to at least make more things stackable in the bank, like the various salvage kits, harvesting tools, etc.?

Every month I end up getting quite a few BL salvage kits. It’s great to get them for free, but it would be even better if they stacked.

-Blade Shards

-Amalgamated Gemstones

-Vision Crystals / Lesser Vision Crystals

-Shimmering / Tenebrous Crystals

-Mystic Forge Stones perhaps?

-Bloodstone Rubies / Petrified Wood possibly, not sure if they’re considered to be the same sort of thing as Ambrite since they can both be salvaged and used as currency.

There are also a few things that currently have slots in the material storage that probably don’t need it. Crafter’s Backpack Frames for example – they’re a crafting material, yes, but how often is someone going to need to store them in bulk? Cubes of Stabilized Dark Energy as well; the only reason I can see for them having a material storage slot is because they’re used for crafting legendaries, and by that logic, what about Icy Runestones? Or the various dungeon token Gifts?

Not meant as a criticism, just commentary from someone who’s a bit too obsessive about keeping their material storage tab clean. Appreciate you guys asking the community’s thoughts on this.

Blade Shards

Amalgamated Gemstones

Bloodstone Rubies and Petrified Wood – these are not salvage items only, they are used as a currency. If they are not eligible to be added, then we need another solution for them, either to be spendable from the bank, or a merchant to convert them in bulk or something to make them seriously less annoying to deal with.

Chak Eggs and Reclaimed Metal Plates – again, these are currency items. I can’t think of any other uses, so if there are none, then convert them into a real currency or find some other solution such as adding them as materials.

Doubloons, Crests, Medallions, etc – what is referred to as “universal upgrades” – These items are gemstones in all but name.

Tenebrous/Shimmering crystals – definitely these are crafting components, although they only have a single use. (There are other items in the crafting tab that only have a single use such as backpack frames.)

Milling basins, crystalline bottles, and other scribing materials used for decorations such as lumber cores, grass seeds, maps of the mists, festive transoms, etc. These are also definitely crafting items with no other use.

As a more general concept, I hope this is also an opportunity for Anet to take a look at how currencies and new materials are added into the game and decide on solid criteria for how to do it in a reliable and consistent way.

Things which should go to Material Storage IMO:

  • Blade Shards – because yes
  • Any Doubloon – because it’s where these belong, Sun Beads are there, why can’t doubloons?
  • Petrified Wood / Blood Rubies – because these have a chance to be craftable items, if they’re never used then just discard… material storage are for materials, not a currency (which these are)
  • Reclaimed Metal Plate / Chak Eggs – because these are becoming widely used for crafting, and as such they’re fit to material storage
  • Tenebrous / Shimmering Crystals – just wanted to say I disagree with these, they enter player inventory on a slow rate so…
  • Amalgamated Gemstones – gosh forgot about these, they’re already so part of the economy and crafting system; it should’ve been part of material storage since day #1.

These are the ones I remember from the top of my head.

This might be a stretch and possibly something to think about for the future, but what about adding bank tabs for Holiday/Event items.
I’m a bit of a hoarder and I usually save items/food from holiday events for the next year.
In fact I have a couple stacks of Baubles from SAB, Still have candy canes, etc…from Wintersday, potions, etc…
What about all the mining tools? My bank is full of them from Wintersday boxes, or at least allow those to stack.

Preferably anything that you’re required to collect a large amount of in order to make use of them; like the blood rubies, petrified wood and (as mentioned earlier) blade shards.
Similar for rarer items that are only used as a currency/tokens but you wouldn’t collect a lot of. Having one or 2 of these on you might seem minor at first but they add up when from a number of different zones.
Having a separate part of bags for items used in WvW would be handy. Blueprints are pretty important but having a lot on me when I’m not in WvW means I automatically waste a few spaces.
This would best be handled as a WvW only bag that doesn’t accept items other than traps or blueprints.
Items which act as keys would be helpful if they where also in a separate bag (chak acid, bandit key…). Items which combine into a key could go here too.

I could go probably go into how items like runes could also have their own places but I think the ones mentioned above are important and consuming enough to be worth the attention.

No because the rubies/wood can be salvaged and sold to merchants.

Except this was the case with pristine fractal relics and they just changed the merchant so one pristine relic, instead of being salvaged into 15 normal relics could be used to purchase the normal relics. Do the same for Bloodstone Rubies and Petrified Wood. The only problem is that right now they salvage for a random amount and instead of being a direct sell x rubies / wood, get y magic, it would have to be sell x rubies, get y boxes that open and give you random z of magic.

I’m on board with the outlined limitations.

Here’s my list:

  • Amalgamated Gemstones
  • Blade Shards
  • Doubloons (used in variety of crafts and MF recipes)
  • Spirit Shard stuff: philosopher stones, mystic crystals, augur’s stone — the others are usually buy-as-needed
  • Mystic Forge stones (only use: mystic forge)
  • +1 AR (unrefined mat)
  • Milling Stones (essential for linseed refinement)
  • Likewise Crystalline Bottles (and other base items from scribe vendor)
  • Shimmering Crystals, Tenebrous Crystals (unrefined crafting item)
  • Pile of Auric Dust
  • Vision Crystals, regular and pint-sized. (Only used in crafting)

Not on my List
These are things that I think ought to be in the wallet or otherwise handled differently by the game. I don’t want them to be in the Vault at all, material storage or bank.

Ideally, most of these could be turned into a consumable than when used deposited into wallet, like bags of airship parts do now.

  • Chak Eggs & Reclaimed Plates — these are currency and have no need to be ‘stored’
  • +X AR (other than +1, these are all refined, although I would love it if there was room for all)
  • Legendary Insights — this is a currency, isn’kitten
  • Black Lion Tickets & Scraps — these can summon a BL vendor, but otherwise they are currency.
  • Petrified wood and blood rubies (salvage or currency; prefer that they were on or the other, not both).

Ambivalent
These are things that take up too much space, but I don’t see them as fitting into LM’s categories:

  • Universal upgrades other than doubloons, i.e. crests, seals, medallions, marks, talismans
  • BL Chests
  • Tomes of Knowledge, Writs of Experience
  • Instant L20, L30, L40 scrolls
  • Boosters
  • Banners
  • Queen Jennah minis

The scribe materials like lumber cores and whatnot would be awesome but there’/ tons and they kinda fall into the whole “inscriptions etc” bit. However, doublouns/petrified/bloodruby/amalgamated gems/extra currency from hot maps like chak eggs/vision crystals

I know there’s more but can’t think right now

Lumber cores are nothing like inscriptions. They basically the same as foxfire clusters/flax flower/freshwater pearl/etc.

That being said, is a “food inventory” (aka a portable storage just for food and utility items, similar to the normal inventory) something you would ever consider? There is more and more food in this game that can see potential use, and carrying many of those around can either clog up your inventory or your bank, even worse if you have to share them between chars. We also only have so many shared slots. Could be a gemstore unlock too, but I’d give a lot for being able to stack my food in a seperate, account-wide inventory.

As for items being added to the storage, pretty sure everything has been said. Elonian wine wasn’t mentioned I think?

A simple test will solve this problem now and for all future items – Do the following 2 rules apply? If so, the item in question should be in material storage.

1 – Its description states ’crafting material (profession(level))
2 – It is a first tier crafting material ie It cannot be in itself crafted
