What's Missing from Material Storage?
Would consumable foods be off the table? I understand that there are a lot of different ones so I can see this being an unreasonable request but I figured I’d ask anyway. It would be nice to be able to bank, at the very least, level 80 foods and/or utility consumables (think Sharpening Stones, Maintenance Oil, etc. since there are a lot less of those).
Edit: Also if it hasn’t been said, Vision Crystals!
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma
Hey, just a quick thought and a little bit off topic, what about all the level 80 food and potion buffs. Might be easy to just add them to the material deposit so it’s easy to make alot of them just to deposit for other characters to use.
Definitely not. There are way too many of them and I don’t think Material Storage is an appropriate place to store that stuff.
EDIT: That said, I am still very seriously considering things like Chak Eggs, Blood Rubies, and Petrified Wood.
Just a thought….but couldn’t these in fact be considered currencies and be added to the wallet instead?
Several scribe mats aren’t in collections. The crystals from the ore synthesizers and the lumber cores from the lumber synthesizers in the GHs. Unless the lumber cores can’t stack, I sell them when I get them so I don’t know.
Doubloons?
RIP City of Heroes
EDIT: That said, I am still very seriously considering things like Chak Eggs, Blood Rubies, and Petrified Wood.
Just a thought….but couldn’t these in fact be considered currencies and be added to the wallet instead?
No because the rubies/wood can be salvaged and sold to merchants.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.
>Class Balance is a Joke<
Please remember that this is “Material Storage”. Not “Stuff I Don’t Want To Spend Bank Slots On Storage”. Items that are not used in crafting or mystic forge recipes are VERY unlikely to be chosen. Sigils, Runes, Tomes of Knowledge, Boosters, etc are all not going to be chosen to add.
EDIT: That said, I am still very seriously considering things like Chak Eggs, Blood Rubies, and Petrified Wood.
Yeah, let’s not forget it’s about Material Storage. For those suggesting Boosters, Sigils and stuff… if it would be added, think about what would happen to those when you choose Deposit Material O.o
That’s also a good way to think of it actually. Think on what would be good to be simply stored by hitting Deposit Material.
And my suggestions: pretty much what others said but one I can recall from top of my mind is Pile of Auric Dust. I have almost a row in bank filled with those :/
Definitely doubloons at least. They’re gemstones by another name and used in several recipes (consumables and gem transmutation for starters) like any other raw material.
I agree about blade shards, chak eggs, mysitic forge stones, etc. I also suggest resonating slivers.
I undertsand why you don’t want to put crafted things in. Would it be hard to at least make more things stackable in the bank, like the various salvage kits, harvesting tools, etc.?
Every month I end up getting quite a few BL salvage kits. It’s great to get them for free, but it would be even better if they stacked.
Ah, good call. Wasn’t aware of their being salvagable mainly because I never tried since I want to keep them in this form haha
Things that should be in material storage:
- Legendary Insights
- Golden Fractal Relics
- Milling Basin
- Copper Doubloon
- Silver Doubloon
- Gold Doubloon
- Platinum Doubloon
- Amalgamated Gemstone
- Shimmering Crystal
- Tenebrous Crystal
- Blade Shard
- +1 Agony Infusions

- Philosopher’s Stones
- Mystic Crystals
- Chak Eggs
- Reclaimed Metal Plates
- Black Lion Tickets
- Black Lion Ticket Scraps

- Petrified Wood
WvW Siege Blueprints. Nobody who is serious about WvW uses them for anything other than crafting superior siege.
this is what i found looking through my inventories and bank on gw2efficiency, plus a couple that i typically just delete
- amalgamated gemstones
- doubloons
- legendary insights
- bloodstone rubies, petrified wood, similar future currency-material hybrids
- tome of knowledge
- blade shard
- reclaimed metal plate
- chak eggs
- boosters
- agony infusions (definitely +1s at least)
- philosopher’s stones
- mystic crystals
- mystic forge stones
- (lesser) vision crystals
- charged quartz crystal
- black lion tickets
- black lion scraps
My requests :
- Unid dye
- Amalgated Gemstone
- Doubloons
- +1 Agony Infusions (and maybe up to 9?)
- Blade Shards
- Golden Fractal Relics
- Reclaimed Metal Plate
- Chak Egg
- Tenebrous & Shimmering Crystal
- Milling Bassin
- Lots of Scribe mats
- Mystic Forge Stone
- Mystic Crystal
- Philosopher’s Stone
- Agonized Essence
- Legendary Insight
Note : I’d rather not have Petrified Wood and Bloodstone Ruby get added in the mat tab, but instead just be added as a currently and ad to vendor a fixed value of Unbound Magic for them.
Thanks for taking the time to look into that!

*Anything purchased from Miyani that is used in the Mystic Forge: Crystals, Philospher’s stones, etc.
*Legendary Gifts: Gift of Ascalon, Gift of Exploration, etc.
A suggestion for the keys would be to have a spot in the WALLET for them to go into.
Here is an idea, maybe create Tabs at the top of the collections window so its not just one long scroll down. Can have one tab for regular materials, another for things like rubies, wood, blade shards, legendary gifts etc, misc things like that.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.
>Class Balance is a Joke<
Doubloons
Marks
Seals
Talismans
Medallions
Crests
Maybe the various Gifts required for legendary crafting?
-Blade Shards
-Amalgamated Gemstones
-Vision Crystals / Lesser Vision Crystals
-Shimmering / Tenebrous Crystals
-Mystic Forge Stones perhaps?
-Bloodstone Rubies / Petrified Wood possibly, not sure if they’re considered to be the same sort of thing as Ambrite since they can both be salvaged and used as currency.
There are also a few things that currently have slots in the material storage that probably don’t need it. Crafter’s Backpack Frames for example – they’re a crafting material, yes, but how often is someone going to need to store them in bulk? Cubes of Stabilized Dark Energy as well; the only reason I can see for them having a material storage slot is because they’re used for crafting legendaries, and by that logic, what about Icy Runestones? Or the various dungeon token Gifts?
Not meant as a criticism, just commentary from someone who’s a bit too obsessive about keeping their material storage tab clean. Appreciate you guys asking the community’s thoughts on this.
Blade Shards
Amalgamated Gemstones
Bloodstone Rubies and Petrified Wood – these are not salvage items only, they are used as a currency. If they are not eligible to be added, then we need another solution for them, either to be spendable from the bank, or a merchant to convert them in bulk or something to make them seriously less annoying to deal with.
Chak Eggs and Reclaimed Metal Plates – again, these are currency items. I can’t think of any other uses, so if there are none, then convert them into a real currency or find some other solution such as adding them as materials.
Doubloons, Crests, Medallions, etc – what is referred to as “universal upgrades” – These items are gemstones in all but name.
Tenebrous/Shimmering crystals – definitely these are crafting components, although they only have a single use. (There are other items in the crafting tab that only have a single use such as backpack frames.)
Milling basins, crystalline bottles, and other scribing materials used for decorations such as lumber cores, grass seeds, maps of the mists, festive transoms, etc. These are also definitely crafting items with no other use.
As a more general concept, I hope this is also an opportunity for Anet to take a look at how currencies and new materials are added into the game and decide on solid criteria for how to do it in a reliable and consistent way.
Things which should go to Material Storage IMO:
- Blade Shards – because yes
- Any Doubloon – because it’s where these belong, Sun Beads are there, why can’t doubloons?
- Petrified Wood / Blood Rubies – because these have a chance to be craftable items, if they’re never used then just discard… material storage are for materials, not a currency (which these are)
- Reclaimed Metal Plate / Chak Eggs – because these are becoming widely used for crafting, and as such they’re fit to material storage
- Tenebrous / Shimmering Crystals – just wanted to say I disagree with these, they enter player inventory on a slow rate so…
- Amalgamated Gemstones – gosh forgot about these, they’re already so part of the economy and crafting system; it should’ve been part of material storage since day #1.
These are the ones I remember from the top of my head.
This might be a stretch and possibly something to think about for the future, but what about adding bank tabs for Holiday/Event items.
I’m a bit of a hoarder and I usually save items/food from holiday events for the next year.
In fact I have a couple stacks of Baubles from SAB, Still have candy canes, etc…from Wintersday, potions, etc…
What about all the mining tools? My bank is full of them from Wintersday boxes, or at least allow those to stack.
Just a thought.

^This (pretty much same thing I was going to say)
On an unrelated storage request, I’d many unreasonable things for a Dedicated Chef storage. I created a guild back near beta that has two bank slots, almost entirely full of random food crafted material.
Most of the rest of the crafter materials are pretty manageable.
- Doubloons
- Vision Crystals (and Lessers)
- Milling Basins
- Chak Eggs
Here is an idea, maybe create Tabs at the top of the collections window so its not just one long scroll down. Can have one tab for regular materials, another for things like rubies, wood, blade shards, legendary gifts etc, misc things like that.
If I recall right, there is already a filter (popup menu) at the top right where you can skip to certain categories.
Preferably anything that you’re required to collect a large amount of in order to make use of them; like the blood rubies, petrified wood and (as mentioned earlier) blade shards.
Similar for rarer items that are only used as a currency/tokens but you wouldn’t collect a lot of. Having one or 2 of these on you might seem minor at first but they add up when from a number of different zones.
Having a separate part of bags for items used in WvW would be handy. Blueprints are pretty important but having a lot on me when I’m not in WvW means I automatically waste a few spaces.
This would best be handled as a WvW only bag that doesn’t accept items other than traps or blueprints.
Items which act as keys would be helpful if they where also in a separate bag (chak acid, bandit key…). Items which combine into a key could go here too.
I could go probably go into how items like runes could also have their own places but I think the ones mentioned above are important and consuming enough to be worth the attention.
I know this is a little off topic but can you guys make that when you convert Quartz to Charged Quartz Crystal you don’t need to have 25 Quartz in your inventory but can use the bank/inventory storage.
And about the main topic I would like to see added: +1 agony infusion(and maybe +3 +5 +7 +9 +11), all the mystic forge stuff(i.e philosopher stone), fractal research page, legendary insight, mystic forge stone, shimmering/tenebrous crystal.
Blade shards
doubloons
vision crystals
lesser vision crystals

Algamated Gemstones

Crafted crafting ingredients only as a crafting ingredients Eg bakers wet/dry ball of dough, all these items punish people that have chosen cooking as a craft. (Scribes have the same problem)
Account bound Black Lion salvage kits.

Amalgamated stones
Collection items (or just consume them and show which have been obtained on a single page)
Leftover seasonal items
Petrified wood
Bloodstone rubies
Scribe crafting materials
(edited by Anchoku.8142)
Any storage that favours the scribe would be much appreciated.
There are a number of items that are prerequisites for other items and can’t be deposited. Space for them would be ideal.
Without wishing to push my luck, the chef has a similar issue.
Except this was the case with pristine fractal relics and they just changed the merchant so one pristine relic, instead of being salvaged into 15 normal relics could be used to purchase the normal relics. Do the same for Bloodstone Rubies and Petrified Wood. The only problem is that right now they salvage for a random amount and instead of being a direct sell x rubies / wood, get y magic, it would have to be sell x rubies, get y boxes that open and give you random z of magic.
Milling Basin and other scribe materials because MATERIALS.

Definitely all this! Especially the chef crafting items…Not sure how hard it would be incorporate all those keys from HoT into our Wallet items…that would solve a ton of problems. It’s done with Unbound magic, why not keys, rubies, etc…

Doubloons, milling basins, philo stones & other things sold by miyani for the forge, mystic forge stones, vision crystals, fossilized insects, silk/gossamer/damask patches…?
Also, crafted food mats such as pile of salt and pepper, pile of cinnamon and sugar, ball of dough, etc. All the things under the cooking ingredient tab of the chef crafting window. you can’t consume and are crafted while trying to level/craft consumables, though if asking for all of those is far too much, then how about just the ones that are used for many recipes (salt and pepper, ball of dough, etc.)?
Doubloons
Mystic Forge Stones
Petrified Wood
Blood Rubies
Blade Shards
Philosopher’s Stones
Augur’s Stones
Scribe Craft Mats — Pristine Feathers, Lumber Cores, Sheets of Sandpaper, Books, Book Covers, etc
Milling Basins
Gifts of Exploration (including the individual HoT map Gifts)
Brick of Clay
Unidentified Dyes
Spinal Blade Blueprints
Vision Crystals
Lesser Vision Crystals
Those are the things clogging my bank right now that I think fit in your criteria.
Tonics, too, but those aren’t mats — they need their own Wardrobe-style system for account-wide use without inventory space being consumed
Tenebrous Crystals
Shimmering Crystals
Alpine Lumber Core
Vision Crystal
Lesser Vision Crystal
Ball of Dough
Ball of Cookie Dough
Bowl of Baker’s Dry Ingredients
Bowl of Baker’s Wet Ingredients
Pile of Salt and Pepper
I could list very many chef ingredients, but the ones that I did list are probably the most used (I may have missed one or two).
Blood Rubies

Also if I recall right some mats were converted into currency but they can still be turned into “items” for salvaging and stuff again. If I recall right, there is an option in Wallet for those items. That could be a way for these items that work like mats/currency.
- Blade Shards
- Mystic Forge Stones
- (Lesser) Vision Crystals
- Shimmering / Tenebrous Crystals
- Baubles
- Chak Eggs
- Mystic Crystals
- Philosopher’s Stones
- Reclaimed Metal Plates
Tenebrous Crystals, Shimmering Crystals, and Doubloons.
- shimmering crystal
- tenebrous crystal
- blade shards
Things that could be in Mat Storage or Wallet:
- Petrified Wood +
- Blood Rubies +
- Chak Eggs
- Reclaimed Metal Plate
- Legendary Insights
- Black Lion Scraps/Tickets
+ Salvaging can be solved by vendor just like pristine relics
Things that really should go in:
- Shimmering crystal
- Tenebrous crystal
- Milling Basin
- Crystalline Bottle
- +1 Agony Infusions
- Amalgamated Gemstones
Few things that would be nice in material storage:
- Doubloons
- Gift of Exploration
- Gifts of Fleet, Tarir, Chak and Jungle
(edited by Kecal.3964)
Just adding my voice to what’s already been listed:
doubloons
blade shards
bloodstone rubies
Petrified wood (still want to know what it’s so scared of)\
Philosophers stones
Mystic crystals
Pile of silky sand
Essence of luck (not sure if this one was on the exclusion list, but it is technically a crafting component)
I’m on board with the outlined limitations.
Here’s my list:
- Amalgamated Gemstones
- Blade Shards
- Doubloons (used in variety of crafts and MF recipes)
- Spirit Shard stuff: philosopher stones, mystic crystals, augur’s stone — the others are usually buy-as-needed
- Mystic Forge stones (only use: mystic forge)
- +1 AR (unrefined mat)
- Milling Stones (essential for linseed refinement)
- Likewise Crystalline Bottles (and other base items from scribe vendor)
- Shimmering Crystals, Tenebrous Crystals (unrefined crafting item)
- Pile of Auric Dust
- Vision Crystals, regular and pint-sized. (Only used in crafting)
Not on my List
These are things that I think ought to be in the wallet or otherwise handled differently by the game. I don’t want them to be in the Vault at all, material storage or bank.
Ideally, most of these could be turned into a consumable than when used deposited into wallet, like bags of airship parts do now.
- Chak Eggs & Reclaimed Plates — these are currency and have no need to be ‘stored’
- +X AR (other than +1, these are all refined, although I would love it if there was room for all)
- Legendary Insights — this is a currency, isn’kitten
- Black Lion Tickets & Scraps — these can summon a BL vendor, but otherwise they are currency.
- Petrified wood and blood rubies (salvage or currency; prefer that they were on or the other, not both).
Ambivalent
These are things that take up too much space, but I don’t see them as fitting into LM’s categories:
- Universal upgrades other than doubloons, i.e. crests, seals, medallions, marks, talismans
- BL Chests
- Tomes of Knowledge, Writs of Experience
- Instant L20, L30, L40 scrolls
- Boosters
- Banners
- Queen Jennah minis
I think every reasonable addition has already been mentioned…
Is there some kind of “most-called-item-gets-the-spot”?
If not i would spare you the redundancy.
The scribe materials like lumber cores and whatnot would be awesome but there’/ tons and they kinda fall into the whole “inscriptions etc” bit. However, doublouns/petrified/bloodruby/amalgamated gems/extra currency from hot maps like chak eggs/vision crystals
I know there’s more but can’t think right now
Lumber cores are nothing like inscriptions. They basically the same as foxfire clusters/flax flower/freshwater pearl/etc.
Icy Runestones, Tenebrous Crystals, Shimmering Crystals, Writs of Experience, Reclaimed Metal Plates, Chak Eggs, Machetes, Vials of Chak Acid, Exalted Keys, Pact Crowbars, Black Lion Ticket Scraps/Tickets, Black Lion Chests, Milling Basins, Mystic Crystals, Mystic Forge Stones, Philosopher’s Stones, Amalgamated gemstones, and Circus Vouchers.
As someone who has 400 in every crafting except scribing, I have noticed that of all the professions, nothing fills the inventory quite like Cooking, Jewelrycrafting, and Scribing, even if you are crafting in bulk.
That being said, is a “food inventory” (aka a portable storage just for food and utility items, similar to the normal inventory) something you would ever consider? There is more and more food in this game that can see potential use, and carrying many of those around can either clog up your inventory or your bank, even worse if you have to share them between chars. We also only have so many shared slots. Could be a gemstore unlock too, but I’d give a lot for being able to stack my food in a seperate, account-wide inventory.
As for items being added to the storage, pretty sure everything has been said. Elonian wine wasn’t mentioned I think?

A simple test will solve this problem now and for all future items – Do the following 2 rules apply? If so, the item in question should be in material storage.
1 – Its description states ’crafting material (profession(level))
2 – It is a first tier crafting material ie It cannot be in itself crafted
