Q:
What's happened to the heart vendors stock
A:
I believe there was a snippet about making vendors carry more appropriate level items for their area. Since Anet’s R&D team believe that most of their player base is under the age of 12, selling beer is the starting areas they populate is an obvious no-no. It sounds like a lot of the merchants have been re-worked or re-tasked all across the world. Of course, after playing this game for 18 months, I knew exactly where to find those useful items. I suppose this is one way to encourage exploration.
It was too difficult for people to comprehend.
Walking up to a merchant and buying stuff from them was a very difficult process.

Ha, very true, although i was wondering if i missed something in the patch notes
But for new player just coming to the game he/she/it won’t even know there are such things as salvage kits or boosting drinks if he can’t find simple versions from the first merchants he/she/it finds like the heart merchants.
They thought “An apple a day keeps the new players / alts away.”
So they got rid of the apples.

Salvage kits? Food buffs?!? Slow down! I haven’t been through it, but I am sure there is a tutorial for that stuff – maybe around level 60. Since you won’t have access to all your basic skills by lvl 15, I would not be surprised if they have stripped all the starter area merchants bare.

Due to legal drinking age restrictions, alcoholic beverages in Guild Wars 2 will no longer be sold to characters below level 21.
(insert smilie here)
The recipe for the wooden sword is missing from its vendor in Foothills.
I hope this doesn’t mean even more skins are unavailable to new players (though at least this one can bought on the TP).
The important one to check is the one south of Lions Arch that sells the Cloth Crabbing Gloves that you can convert into linen scraps. If they removed them, all we have left is Orrian Jewelry Boxes to convert Karma into gold.
I don’t any of the new players that Anet surveyed to know what Karma is, so they probably removed the entire heart NPC.
Just as an aside. They introduced a new and incredibly confusing trading post that even some veteran players (myself included, I have over 1k hours played) can’t quite figure out how to use yet, and they didn’t even add a tutorial for it?
Blasphemy.
