I’ve been wondering to myself why A.net wants to stop people from going 2/2/2 with their rune sets. I think it promotes diversity in builds and should be encouraged. Also I think they’re going about trying to get people to stack the same runes on their armor the wrong way. If you want people to use the full set then make the stat bonuses more attractive. Punishing players for thinking outside of the box is a bad strategy to me.

I guess it’s to avoid vertical progression? if you could use 6 of the same rune, there would be a lot of specialized builds but the time it would take to get 6 of the same rune would be too much if you just so happen to get bored of your build and want to switch to another.

Didn’t they said they ARE making it more attractive so you’ll go for the 6?
Also, somewhat related, the difference between say back piece and amulet, amount of stats that is, apparently they’re changing it too.

Honestly I think it hurts the game in a way, makes everything more linear and it does kill diversity, the people that spent ages fine tuning their min/max aren’t going to be happy that’s for sure.

I think it has alot to do with their attempt to rebalance runes and sigils in general. If people only use runes of 1 set and not 3, its easier to balance.

Right now, if they introduce a new rune set, they have to check, if its 2nd boni could be unblanaced in combination with any other two 2nd boni on each rune set.

ArenaNet don’t want to stop people. They don’t think it’s wrong that people mix other runes for stat increase. But they want to encourage people to go for full rune sets, making them more interesting and wanted.

Like Soldier runes for Guardians are really good and probably the most used one, since the 6th bonus grants us another condition removal when using a shout, which makes us able to remove 2 conditions with Pure of Voice trait.

Basically they can’t figure out how to balance their game so they are trying to simplify things down a bit.

if you need to use all 6 runes and you can’t mix and match then that significantly reduces the amount of balance they need to do.
