Hello everyone, good to be back!
I stopped visiting forums a while back, and just focused on playing the game, I sometimes have a feeling that forum community and game community are two completely separated groups of people, so I decided to come and ask a question here too:
What is the next, or what is the new GW2 killer?
back in my day, every second gw2 forum topic was about certain “futuristic clone of most popular mmo” and an mmo adaptation of certain series of games which had something to do with ancient scrolls.
(I am trying not to mention any names so that I evade those negative points on forums, I hope I manage )
so, all in all, is there a new MMO that will make Tyria a wasteland?
You are an obvious troll so I reported you and hope the thread will be closed and you will be infracted.
On topic: you must feel extremely superior with your attitude and this makes you even worse than forum complainers. If you’re looking for new mmo go google, if you’re here only for trolling we don’t need you neither on the forums nor in game. Cya.
ESO, Archeage and Wildstar were supposed to leave GW2 empty while dominating the industry. You know what happened thereafter.
no, I’m not trolling, you can actually check my history, I don’t think I’ve posted anything on forums for a couple of months.
secondly, I indeed can use google and I am aware of new MMOs that are comming but what I’m interested in is the general attitude of the forum community towards new games, if mentioning the words such as gw2 killer makes you think I am just trolling I apologise but I thought it was a funny term and it is suitable for my question.
The only game killing GW2 anytime soon is GW2.
Signed,
Bitter Forum People (that aren’t me :P)

Guild Wars 3.
No, seriously, if anything will sap the core fanbase it’s a sequel.
Lol’d when I read ESO was nixing the sub fee. GW2 has outlasted many. Once HoT drops, it will be stronger than ever.
Considering the sheer lack of players this game has compared to launch I’d say there are several that others are playing right now that make the world an empty place and this is from a server that is constantly “full” preventing transfers.
Oh and that phrase “the only game that will kill gw2 is gw2” can only be used if you have 10 million players. sorry folks doesn’t apply here.

Every MMO come after GW2 was “Gw2 killer” and they all succeeded just to be “game i play wile im bored of GW2 and waiting for content”.All those games failed and dropping in community rapidly, wile GW2 stands on the top after WOW.Now haters are finding new games to “kill GW2”,but they will end up the same.
What those “haters” don’t understand is that GW2 have community size of millions and that most of those who dont play anymore just wait for something exiting (like expansion).GW2 still have huge playerbase and with launch of HOT it will explode.Nuff said
I suspect Black Desert, Bless, and Tree of Savior might take some players for awhile later this year, or next year. But since they’re Korean games, those players will be back after a month or two. Like most Korean games, they’re either a huge kittening grind or, the cash shop is P2W. Neither sits too well with the West.
But like was said, nothing’s killing GW2.
Only thing I can think of is maybe black desert and everquest next. Other then those 2 I don’t see any exciting mmorpg games coming.

That was certainly true at launch but I doubt they keep more than 1 million logged in at any one time anymore considering the severity of the holes in it’s current design and activities. Doesn’t take a hater to login and see how few there are there now as demonstrated by several new players over the course of almost three years now.
American Truck Simulator
It’s possible HoT maybe the GW2 killer. Gliding and mushroom hopping indicate it is going to be one big jumping puzzle platform game between 3 levels. Fine if you’re into this, not so fine if you’re not. You heard it here first folks
Black Desert of course .. finally again a real “grinder” where quests give no exp and
of course with open PvP, that always works so well in the west.
And then EQNext .. the only game i have some decent interest in .. but i think there is
also so much experimenting in it that nobody can really say how that will work out
when it is opened to the masses.

At least I have more customization options for my character in Black Desert.
Another good competetor would be Star Citizen.
It’s funny because that question was asked multiple times when new mmorpgs were coming out. I remember it most when Archeage, Wildstar, and The Elders Scroll Online were announced/released. After two years, GW2 is still going on strong and even managed to pull in thousands of viewers during the world premier of the upcoming expansion.
At least I have more customization options for my character in Black Desert.
Perfect World, AION and Archeage also have more options .. i even installed AA
just to take a look at the character editor, but never set a step into the game,
since i will never ever play again an open PvP game after AION.
And i also really whished we had a better character editor here.
I have played all of the aforementioned MMOs since GW2 and I am now returning to the game. On a serious note the upcoming changes to ESO, as well as the change to B2P, look promising and may be real competition for GW2:HoT.
The only game to kill GW 2 is something we make or GW 3. /thread
Someday, someone will make Days Of Our Lives Online, and all other MMOs will tremble. Or maybe an MLP MMO. E-ver-questria? It’s so perfect it almost creates itself. Just imagine how friendly it would be, playing earth ponies, unicorns, pegasuseses, and maybe even having the option to ascend to alicornity…
The HoT reveal pulled in nearly 100k viewers at peak iirc. At launch there were around 400k online over the first day. An hour long livestream getting that many compared to the full release day? Not bad at all. Well done Anet!
Honestly the only thing that will be seriously competing for my time personally will be Star Citizen (Proud Javelin owner here. Family org has every ship except the scyth, with me paying for about ~90% of that. …I have a problem.)
Still love GW2 though. Because Charr. And Greatsaw.
For the ultimate MMO Killer, you would have to make a Game, thats basically a merge out of
Each of them has their pros and cons, everything has something as a feature, that would be awesome, if all the other games would have that too or in a similar way or would use it as an inspiration to improve some of their own systems.
So if there would be a company, that would just filter out from all those games the best features only, the best performances, the best systems and so on, then the result of that chimera of a game would be the ultimate MMO Killer truly in my opinion.
But I guess, something like this will never happen xD
The problem with merging games together is that some people absolutely hate forced open world PVP, I don’t like games like that, so I shy away from them (WoW, RIFT, Black Desert, Black Gold, ArcheAge, etc.)
What is the next, or what is the new GW2 killer?
GW3 :-)
But don’t expect it soon. It’s ready when it’s ready.
Greetings.

I really don’t get where this “Archeage has awesome customization” sentiment comes from. After seeing a choice of 3 total skin tones and a bunch of lackluster sliders (to affect a face I don’t see because BACK), my character looked terribly like every other character out there.
I’ve yet to see another character that looks close to my Charr while wandering Tyria.
