From the start, shouts were utilities that non casters could use, that gave a similar effect to a spell. They were also instant, as shouts are not casted, but shouted or whatever.

Now they are giving shouts to scholar professions. At first, it doesn’t make sense, unless of course they are instant cast. Elementalists do get instant shouts, or so it seems, but necros get shouts… with a cast time? What’s the point? how are they different than other necro spells? well, they are different from corruptions, in the way at least you don’t get kittened for using a shout, nor can you trait it to get extra kittened if you use it.

But going back to basics, what’s the point of shouts on scholar professions?

To act as a skill category for trait catchment.

All other concerns secondary.

Lore expendable.

To scream, and shout, and let it all out?

I agree on the instant cast, but not on class restriction

Because Guild Wars 2 wants to break away from the norm, and do things slightly differently to traditional MMOs. When you think about ranged greatswords and melee staves, Elementalists & Necromancers being able to shout magic words isn’t that far fetched.

Who knows, maybe even thief will get shouts? Or perhaps, since they’re sneaky, they’d be whispers instead.

Lol I can see it right now!

Random people start whisper spamming you the following (automated game message showing as a whisper):

“Psst, I’m gonna backstab you nao f00l!” Split second later, backstabbed for 30k damage!

Dead, quit game. :P

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

There are already rune sets that support shouts, so there is a lot to do with them unlike other skill types.

About the casttime…
Warrior: “For great justice!”
Ele: “Wash the pain away!”
Necro: “And so I kitten thou, foul creature, servant of Menzies, into the deepest realms of the Abyss from where thou came from, so that thou shalt never walk the realm of mortals again!”

And now you know why Necro-shouts have a casttime.

Doesn’t make thematical sense for a Reaper/Necromancer to shout and it doesn’t suit the traditional instant cast mechanic.
