So, Lost Shores is only going to be 3 days long, ensuring half the population or possibly more completely misses it or doesn’t have enough time to finish it and the end result is the trading post gets flooded with insanely over-inflated event items.

Stuff like this with such a ridiculous time table doesn’t make the game fun. It makes it a 9-to-5 job.

I thought Mad King being scheduled as only 11 days long was bad enough, given many similar games I’ve played have holiday events that run most of the month if not the entire month but 3 days is just plain obnoxious and borderline evil and seemingly intentionally so.

bow, you’re missing the point. He’s complaining that a lot of the content is only for three days, ever.

The three day event is a way to introduce all the reluctant WoW players that GW2 is indeed the new grind fest for them to play while they empty out the loyal fanbase to make room for fickle hamsters.

The zone and the loot will always be there. This is a content addition, unlike the Halloween which was a holiday event.

What you’re missing out on if you miss this weekend is a couple of one-time Dynamic Events that introduce the new zone.

He’s not complaining about new content, more that its a specific timing issue? Why is it only 3 days? Why is there a 1-time only chain during the last day? A large portion of the player base will not be able to participate because of other obligations and setting up event schedules like this effectively says “Play the game or miss out.”

For the record, I’m pulling a double shift tomorrow, likely out and about on saturday, and have obligations every sunday. I will miss this sunday’s 1-time only event chain, and any future 1-time only event chains that they decide to have on sunday. I’m going to miss out on this event completely. I’m one example of what the OP is trying to get at.

Well, I suppose my outrage would then depend on exactly what that one time DE will entail. If there are unique items you can only obtain during that DE, unless they’re soulbound/account bound, it creates a massive corner for the market on those items, effectively boning everyone else.

There has to be a moment they ‘switch on’ the new zone. This can only happen one time. Thus the event is one-time only. I thought this was rather obvious…

have you played the last couple WoW expansions where the zones change as you progress through the quest lines? They could provide something like that for people who miss the event.

I am not a fan of one time events or things like this either. to me it just reminds me of “omfg you have to be online at 7:30 for raid time or you get left out!” things like that are why i dont want to play gear treadmill games, but sigh.

in my understanding…the 3 days event is just there to introduce you to the new content…u dont want LA to get destroy over and over like normal dynamic events do you? its more like part of the lore/storyline that only happen one time. its not like the lost shore would disappear after 3 days [or would it? o.o]

Yes, but how do you change the zone based on quest progression when there is no track-able quest progression in place? I doubt it would be easy to track which dynamic events have been completed by specific players and I don’t think there is coding currently in place to handle this, which only leaves instanced options.

I like the way this is done. Rather than just a new content release with some all-text backstory, they are just adding the backstory into the game. It makes more sense than a new island coming out of nowhere, and it is in no way mandatory for people who can’t make it. Assuming that the special items given are soulbound to the player, this event is largely irrelevant besides being cool to take part in.

It sucks some people have to miss it but that will always be an issue for a game trying to accommodate players worldwide and also wanting to stay persistent rather than instanced.

It does suck a little ‘missing’ out.
But what do you expect them to do, have a “one-time only event” that makes permanent changes to the world, multiple times?

We can’t all be everywhere at once in this world, this life. That’s just how the cookie crumbles.
