Construct a MMO’s core mechanics (artwork, combat etc) from existing MMOs. I’ll start as an example.

1. The quests and storytelling of RuneScape.
2. The combat, the world, the dungeons and progression of GW2
3. The cutscenes of FF14
4. The large scale group content of WoW
5. The character design and gear of Vindictus

1. RuneScape does something which I havn’t seen in any other MMO. Instead of having one storyline the player follows, it has a series of questlines which are separate in nature but intertwining in events, sewn together by an overarching plot which is elegantly and slowly unveiled to the player. It’s just beautifully immersive.

2. Tyria is beautiful, I don’t need to say anything more. The combat has just the right balance between an action MMO and a traditional one to get the best of both worlds.

The dungeons are very well structured, with puzzles and other tasks to break up boss fights and mob trashing. The thing about progress in this game is that it’s mostly well…. progressive. Take Ascended items for example, instead of waiting for a RNG boss drop with a 0.00001 chance, you know how far you’re away to crafting it.

3+4. I don’t think I need to say anything.
5. Despite everything else being done terribly in that game, the gear and characters look awesome. Each endgame armour which came out before Season 2 were unique and intricately designed, down to the very little details like how chains on them moved and how that one armour with a cape’s cape swirled as you ran.

one that does not put too much focus on cash shop on updates. one that practice what it preach. one that doesn’t not have dailies and achievement points.one without gear grind.one without having to pay for cash as something trivial as bank slots, character slots, hair style, character transfer and the list go on….

For GW2 to be perfect for me, I would like to have:

The player housing from SWG (with the pack up system of LotRO should players be inactive)
Emotes and animations from MxO (loved being able to sit on bar stools)
Quick hairstyle change from Fallen Earth
Wardrobe system from LotRO
Synchronised instrument playing from SWG
Dances from just about any other game!

Yes, I love fluff!

A game with:

Balanced PvP.
Splits Skills from PvP and PvE.
Requires more than spamming 1.
Trinity, or at the very least, roles that are better defined.
Missions.
Epic end-game bosses.
Requires more than spamming 1.
Craptons of lore.
Low level cap.
Lots of Titles.
Requires more than spamming 1.
Good storylines.
Has great survivability throughout the years.
Requires more than spamming 1.
Has a heavy emphasis on team-play.
Has recruitable NPC’s if you can’t find a team.

Assassin’s that can be tanks…Oh, wait. That game’s already out. BRB DL’ing GW1.

Devs can say all they want, it doesn’t mean that’s what the game’s actually going to be like. The devs of this game showed us how pre-patch Tequatl had a million different features but it turned out to be just a 1-spam until they revamped him.

I don’t see this being different with Wildstar, especially when they showed that level 20 dragon boss’s mechanics and the tank was just literally staying still and soaking up all the damage from everything.

Let’s see:

  • The graphics, combat, event system, jumping puzzles and Discovery crafting of GW2.
  • The skill system and how skills worked together from GW.
  • The skill customization system from Path of Exile.
  • The setting, missions, clkitten system, cosmetic progression and crafting of The Secret World (Investigation Missions have no hand-holding, and I’m quite fond of the atmosphere it gives. If they could nail that in a Fantasy game, I’d be happy).
  • The exploration and world interaction of Minecraft (having to make your own maps lest you get lost, being able to interact with everything to build stuff).

The condition damage handling, the rewards for long time players, the shop items, group handling, autogroup for events, mobile games and lottery, housing is fantastic in Rift.

The leveling (skill based), the rewards for doing events, the rewards based solely on currencies that are obtainable from simple gameplay, events don’t require that WoW-esc dance maneuvers seen in Teq recent changes on this game and yet remain challenging and fun without them, abundant in game cosmetics without the need to spend a dime, weekend event bonuses on loot, ample story to make the game in depth and brings you into the world immersion, balance for the types of weapons you use (ie if you use a flame thrower, bombs, grenades etc things die quickly in PVE there isn’t a guy with a sword killing things faster than you do) all from Defiance.

Trinity lite where every gamer has to make sure they stay alive however when a group has a tank and healer it enhances their performance and makes the events a bit easier. Neverwinter

Players could build their own cities, with ranks according to population. There was a “politician” profession where you could become a mayor at the highest rank (profession points were refundable in this game, so one toon could be anything, but had limited points to spend. Which was good because you only got one toon per server).

Best part though, was that players could build bases in or around their cities that could be attacked and destroyed by enemies. So if you were Rebel, Imperials could come and destroy your base and vice versa. It was a real motivator for guilds and alliances to plan offense and defense. The open world battles would last hours on end.

And yes, there was GvG in SWG

Forgot entirely about Rift’s post max level advancement called Planar Attunement was brilliant because you could improve your character’s stats increase your movement speed, damage, crit etc all with post max level skill points from secondary leveling. This game is in such need of that simply from the WvW standpoint it would give players who don’t want to fiddle with the whole ascended gear fiasco the chance to build that extra 10% in stats from leveling process in open world events AND it would be a simple thing for Anet to allow the Ascended gear to turn off those extra benefits if equipped so people couldn’t have both the 10% from ascended and the 10% enhancements from a fully specced secondary score building system like Planar Attunement.
