so i just hit level 10 (ranger) and i am starting to get gear that is better then the starter gear i got in the mail. As its the only set i will get i dont know what to do with it. if i destory it do i still have it as a skin to use on other gear later? what happens if i destory it? the whole set is taking up space in my inventory. (btw im a bit mad i paid 40$ for a game to find out im going to have to deal with micro transactions that limit the game, the bank tab should be much larger) i dont really understand this whole transmutation system.

lol dont worry about it. Every skin you got\will get\buy\earn is unlocked in your wardrobe, you can use transmutation charges to re-use your skins as much as you like.

You never have to deal with micro transactions. Larger bags exists through the game as crafting, rewards or auction house purchases. Everything you need is in the game.

As for gear, salvage or sell old gear. Once it is equipped, the skin stays in the wardrobe forever

FYI, you can convert gold to gems to unlock bank slots and such without paying a dime. yes it does cost a decent amount of money, but it’s not unaffordable. (and imo in the case of inventory/bank space, even the default is more than enough for an average player.)

also as said above, the skin should be unlocked and in your warddrobe. just mouse over the item and it will say “skin unlocked: X” under the stats and sigils/runes

Druid main, 80 on all, Legendary ranked, Eternal and all that jazz (I go by Feyris in game)

Look at the tooltip for the starter gear (the window that pops up if you mouse over it): if it says ‘skin unlocked’ then you can safely get rid of it and the skin is saved in your wardrobe. If you want to unlock a skin you can do it by equipping or salvaging the item.

The other thing to look out for is ‘account bound’, that means other characters on your account can use that item, and it might be worth keeping for them.

As for microtransactions they’re not required. My husband has finished the entire game and never bought a single thing from the gem store. The bank tabs are certainly the most useful thing sold but even they are optional. (You can also buy gems with gold and get things that way, it’s not cheap but neither is bank space in games where it’s only bought with gold.)

Open up the black lion trading post and buy some 18 slot or 16 slot bags, should be fairly cheap.

Also buy some salvage kits from the general merchant, just get the cheapest ones,

You will get 3 transmutation charges a month and in addition, if you do your PvP dailies, one every other day. Mapping any city 100% will get you a T charge, and you can make a char to do that, map the cities, delete and repeat. 100% of a map will either get you a key or a T charge (the T charge is more likely).

Unless you do the daily PvP, you probably won’t have enough to keep one look all the way to level 80 but it will be easy enough to get the ones you need when you need them, for free. Just with a little bit of work.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I’ve been playing this game since November of last year and my bank tab still has plenty of space. Once you learn to salvage gear for materials/sell them on trading post. And depositing all your materials into material storage. As well as using the mystic forge to craft soulbound items into something you can sell or salvage…And perhaps choosing some crafting disciplines to level up…You shouldn’t have any problems making room in your bank.

Making alts as well and equipping them with some 16-18 slot bags (You also are rewarded with a 20 slot bag for doing an achievement which is a really easy one but I don’t recall what it was called.) gives you a lot of extra space.

Also, if you level a crafting discipline you can make yourself 20 slot bags. That’s what I did. You can of course buy them on the Trading Post as well, if you want to spent 11-12 gold.

Good luck!

By the time you’ll need additional bank tabs, you’ll have more than enough gold to convert to gems to buy them.

Hi Booty,

If you are talking about the bonus set you get for purchasing a certain edition of the game, that set should be account bound. What i suggest you do, is create another character and equip them with that set, you can also use that character to store extra stuff until you get on your feet and decide to play them.

I saved my set for key farming character, it’s perfect for it as it doesn’t have a lvl requirement and it’s actually of rare quality with 2 sets of stats. You can also put those low lvl runes that don’t have a lvl requirement into the unused upgrade slots, or even gems you get when mining nodes, to boost the stats a bit. Just make sure if u delete the character using it, that u strip the armor of them and store it in your bank first.

Not sure if you’re aware, but you can deposit any crafting materials from anywhere in the world by opening ur bags and then click the little cog wheel in the top right corner of your inventory which gives you a drop down menu. Simply click on deposit collectables and it will free up your bag space. I’m sure the reason why most people on this tread say you shouldn’t have problem with storage is because you get a massive material collectable bank that’s given to you for free and that’s where all your materials go (in case you’re not aware). When u visit the bank, on the left side you will see one of the tabs is a dotted square, if you click it, it will open your collectables bank and you will see all your mats there. Also note, bank can be accessed at any crafting station via a little coin tab and also you can craft stuff straight from your bank without withdrawing the mats.

When out in the world, make sure you have gathering tools equipped and a salvage kit in your bags at all times. Collect all mats and sell them if you don’t want to keep them. You’ll make lots of money that way. Like others have pointed out, salvage stuff you don’t need, but bear in mind some things cannot be salvaged, such as things bought with karma and some reward items. When you dble click your salvage kit non-salvageable items will be in red, the rest is ok. However, if you get 4 of similar type of things that you can’t salvage, like 4 weapons, or 4 armor pces (they don’t have to be exactly the same but do have to be of same rarity), you can put them into Mystic Forge (MF) in Lions Arch and it will return a random similar item for you that is not soulbound and may be traded/salvaged. Or u can simply trash them if you need space.

At lvl 10 you can also create your own guild and unlock a guild bank, but that may take some time though as you have to earn influence to unlock it, which you will earn over time simply by playing the game and completing content. You can also buy letters of commendations from one of the guild merchants to speed up the process with in-game gold and once you unlock the guild bank, you can store non-bound items in there.

Welcome to Tyria and good luck. Feel free to add me or send me a message here or in game if you have any other questions or need help with anything.

BTW, are you on EU or US server? I may be able to craft you some bags and send them to you. I’m Us so not sure if i can do that if your on EU server though.

Small bit of advice that may help a new player that’s strapped for space:

The cheapest 20 slot bags are either Haloween pails (Buy Candy Corn Cobs or farm candy corn and buy then from an NPC in Lion’s Arch that takes leftover festival tokens, the gold cost of the amount of candy corn you need is way cheaper than the gold cost for the runes of holding used to make 20 slot bags)

Or fractal equipment boxes from fractals of the mists. (Downside for these is you’re basically going to need a level 80 character for this, but it’s good for quickly getting bag space for alts)

Getting your hands on some large capacity bags and making an extra character to be a “mule” to hold on to extra account bound stuff you need to store long-term solves a lot of storage woes. The one bank tab would not be nearly enough for me, if not for for my 100 slot storage locker alt.

Oh yeah, if you’re not already aware of them you should use the ‘deposit all material’s option on the little cog wheel in the top right of your inventory to send crafting materials to dedicated slots in the bank.

You might already know that (I think one of the level up rewards tells you) but I’ve met a few people who were furious at the lack of bag/bank space and that solved all their problems.
