What to do after getting 80 with HOT?
My advice would’ve been to not use the boost and play the game instead. Maybe start an alt.
Do map completion, fractals, dungeons, Dry Top and Silver Wastes, HoT maps, do your story journal, lvl crafts, do achievements (check the achievement tab “H”), PvP…
There’s a whole lot for you to do, set some goals, you now have the base stats to do anything you want in the game.
My personal advice is (in order):
- Map completion 100% (including HoT maps)
- Lvl crafts
- Do all Dungeon paths (you may need a guild for this, but use LFG tab “Y”)
- Fractals (Daily rewards and ascended gear progression, decent gold)
Once you are in a full set of ascended gear (does not take long if you are crafting in addition to simply buying the gear from the merchant now) I would start looking to “side quests.” Examples would be, PvP, achievements, legendary crafting, “fashion” in general.

play the game through without the level 80 boost. try out 2-3 professions to see what clicks (no one finds their soul mate on the first go). Get your favorite some exotic gear and then get the elite specs that you want. After that, for PvE at least, you can either join Team Conservative MMO, and focus on crafting, masteries, and ascended gear, or Team Screw That, and start pushing for legendaries and raids right away.
I don’t know why nobody ever realizes this but Achievements involve everything in the game and are an excellent guideline to doing stuff in the game. You’ll notice that by doing achievements you’ll spend a lot of time having fun enjoying the map by exploring content.
I advise you to experiment and play with builds while you keep exploring the rest of Tyria. Equip weapons you haven’t equipped before… read up on the trait lines, and play around with how they interact with your skills.
Since your character is now lvl 80, you can run around in those lower level zones in green lvl 80 armor, which is very inexpensive to buy on the TP… and thus, you can safely learn the aspects of your class you’ve yet to touch in those lower lvl zones all while trying out different stat sets on the cheap.
Guilds will likely help you best with learning dungeons, and unless you get your associated crafting disciplines maxed, you’re limited to buying rare/exotic armor on the TP, or with karma from Temple Merchants (or a small handful of other vendors).
Good luck and good adventuring to you.

Thanks to everyone, I’ll just try everything out
Oh, I almost forgot, make unlocking gliding a priority. It greatly improves the joy of exploration and traveling.

Make sure to try wvw. It’s an open world format pvp. Play alone, with some friends or with a large group. You will be behind on the learning curve but i wouldn’t let that hold you back.

This, now that gliding is everywhere it’s worthwhile to skip straight into Maguuma and work on gliding mastery, then go back and do the other stuff.
