I find myself logging in and not knowing what to do, I know that there are plenty of things to do in this game, but I want to know what to do first. Do I finish the Maguuma Story first? Do I try to get Ascended gear? I’m extremely confused and would like detailed advice. Also forgot I’m an 80 Elementalist running around with full Berserker and the only ascended pieces I have are my jewelry.

Thanks in advance.

First thing to do would be doing the first chapter of the Heart of Thorns story. That unlocks the masteries, so no XP you earn goes to waste.
You will, of course, want to gear up. That is a bit too complicated for me to try to write about on my coffee break and with just a phone. I am sure others will help with that.
Always feel free to contact me in game. I am almost always free to go do stuff.

When i got my first one on lvl80 ,I still havn’t got map completion to 100%, so I setted it as my first aim .after that, I tried to play some dungeons ,worldbosses, wvw.I didn’t have a full set of Ascended gears even I have played it 2 years cause it wasn’t necessary. play whatever you like. Have fun.

I would say finish your personally story, I’d you haven’t already . Then hot story torn from the sky. This unlocks masteries as said above. Then I would work on map complete. Try using weapons you hadn’t used before. Playing with action camera, first person, or no HUD even. Spice it up a bit. Then work towards ascended weapons. And takes it from there. While playing hot stuff.

As you’ve said yourself there are a lot of stuff you can do. I personally started doing Fractals of the mists as soon as I got to lvl 80. It’s a cheaper and more fun way (although very RNG-based) to get ascended armor/weapons. Since you already have ascended jewelry, agony should be no problem for you with a few infusions. You could also try out PvP or as already suggested, do your personal story and then progress to HoT and get your elite specialization. Do whatever you find fun, since that’s the purpose of the game

Yes, I basically agree. It’s cliche to a degree, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true: And that is do whatever you find fun. If you’re having fun, you’re playing the game the right way.

Basically,i suggest you to get the first chapter in maguuma to unlock masteries. But then, stop there.

Personally i suggest you to try all type of dungeon; those helped me in learning some of the basic group mechanics (stealh, skip, stack, might stack),even if sometimes you are pugged with people who just ruah the content.

Still, the main experience i get from dungeon was:

1-personal mechanics: how to combo/rotation.Those can seems like useless complication, but try force you to work these in your normal routine of combat,it will pay off in more difficult content.

2-PvE bosses. Many of the bosses can be only kittened focusing it in 5 ppl,but dungeons teach me that sometimes is just best to understand the mechanics of them instead of imba-aoutoing them to death.

3- learn how to BREAK STUN BARS:this is vital to maximixe damage, and is REALLY important in maguuma. It break my hearth (of thorns) when 50+ people cant stun vivern in HoT maps

After dungeon (personal advice:enjoy them story) il would suggest you to look towards HoT maps or fractals, maybe alternate them.Fractals are good source of money, but HoT maps/story are really more funny. When you feel having a basic comprension of what your class do,try also pvp where you can experiment with different amulet, the look also at wvwvw.

Personal suggestion; i had as main pg an ele too,try to cap the elite specialization fast(easiest ways are hero point in HoT maps) becouse is really funny/strong, and also try all possible setuo for the elementalist, dont just get stuck into one kind of weapon, becouse it have so many different playstile:

Staff ele: most dps,ranged
Condi ele: big dps, less braindead then staff power ele
Fresh air tempest: tons of aoe damage
Frash air d/f: good might stacking, cool rotation of spell
Auramancer (staff – dagger/warhorn – scepter/x): crazy sustaines fight,cool support for groups

enjoy my 2 cents

I guess you have fun, and yes thats the most important. Now you ask for subgoals to be succesful

  1. Garambolas Tipto first unlock HoT-Masteries by a short visit is a very good one, Pact-Mastery line is very useful. But this is a background goal, do NOT play to master it fast,it just happens on it’s own while you do other things.
  2. choose a longer time goal. This is mainly a compass to direct your activities nothing you pusue daily, it will take several months but thats the way it is. Getting your main weapon ascended would probably a good choice. This has a lot of sub-goals like profession to 400 and then 500, collecting a lot of materials. Do NOT go farming materials, but take any you hit on your way. Some you need for your goal, some you can turn to easy gold in the TP.
  3. a mid-time goal, this keeps you busy for some weeks, e.g. map-exploration of Tyria is a very good goal, you will need at least one char with all WPs if you wana do guild-missions with a guild.
  4. the daily goal, e.g.explore this map, while collecting most resources, also all the daily tasks given on the achievement tasks, Fraktal dailies 1-20 are also a profitable thing to do. A dungeon path, a story section, …. choices are quite unlimited. Contribution to your choosen longer-time goals can guide as compass.
Ceterum censeo SFR esse delendam!

Er what you guys telling, that’s fine etc. but first: gear up! Start getting Exotics and later go towards Ascended. Fractals being a good source for it, but you won’t come around levelling your craftin to 500 and make your own ascended gear which is a long term goal if you want to max out everything.

Guild up, that’s my advice. Identify your play style and find a guild that fits it, so you can start doing guild missions, the cheapest/easiest way to get ascended acessories. Run fractals for your ascended rings. Buy an ascended amulet if you have 30 laurels (or 20 laurels and 250 badges of honor).

Then at least you have ascended accessories.

Make short, medium and longterm goals.

Shortterm goals could be:
- get full rare/exotic gear and figure out a build for your character. if you want to be very thorough try some talent specs out in the spvp area, then commit
- complete almost finished maps
- try out spvp
- try out wvw and see if you like it and what you could imagine playing there
- start a new character
- find a guild of similar minded people to play with if you are still soloing (absolutely do this, it will increase enjoyment of the game exponentially)

Mediumterm goals:
- finish your personal story
- finish Living Story Season 2 and all the achievements
- finish the HoT Story and the achievements
- try out fractals and try to get to fractal level x
- play more spvp and wvw
- do map completion and get your first 100%
- try out jumping puzzles and other obtional content
- complete the Bioluminescent achievement collection (or any other collection you deem fun)

Longterm goals (for a new player):
- complete a full set of ascended equipment (alternatively keep armor exotic, not necessary worth the upgrade)
- decide on a legendary and start working towards that
- rise up the ranks in spvp
- play wvw

There’s no correct answer to this question since the GW2 end-game sort of branches out into categories.

It depends on what your tastes are.

For me I spend most of my time in fractals. When I’m not in fractals I’m either in HoT working on leveling up my masteries (through the map meta events), doing the raid, or wandering around WvW.

I honestly suggest trying a bit of everything.

I good place to start to get some kind of direction are the class collections that give you ascended weapons. If you don’t want to craft an ascended weapon its a nice (albeit fairly gated) way to get one. At the very least it will give you an idea of what masteries to work on.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Hit lvl80

- Go to wiki find yourself a legendary weapon and craft

Only by doing this you are forced to run fractals, pvp many jumping puzzles farm materials, need to do living story and HoT content to unlock masteries just to craft a legendary.

step two you find out yourself >.>
