So Anet, first off thank for some of the nice features in the latest patch.

What i want to know is if the normal fractal relics will be good for anything at all in the game?

We have several currencies like dungeon tokens, badges of honor. Then you added fractal tokens and prestine fractal tokens after that it was laurels and now guild commendations?

Were does it ends?

My suggestion to anyone who has an excess of Fractal Relics is to pour them into skill points. Several ways to get a good return on investment with skill points.

its normal for a themepark mmo.

its made this way so people do different content instead of farming the same thing to buy all.

Not sure how that is a valid comparison? Potions are not used to buy anything? Fractals are used to buy some thing (which is okay), but that list of things hasn’t gotten any bigger since fractals were released.

I agree with other posts on here about this problem though. What do you want them to do? Give you access to other awesome items with fractals or pristine fractals? Then all those fractal PVE haters would be up in arms about how you get rings AND accessories in fractals. I think if they had it to do over again they WOULDN’T have put those ascended rings in fractals, but rather an item to infuse normal rings, and the ascended rings left only to the dailies.

But keep in mind, all the currencies, and especially the dailies, are designed to keep people interested in playing daily and spending more time/money in game. The only way to prevent you from playing 12 hours a day and burning out in a month is to make that 12 hours a day get you no closer to the most awesome of gear than someone who plays 1 hour a day. And a MINIMUM of X number of days to get your character the best gear. Even if its 10-20-30 stats, whatever, the longer it takes you to get those items, the longer they can keep you playing. Want alternate stats? Get ready for another two months of dailies!

Ask yourself if you had all the best gear tomorrow, would you be happy? Would you keep playing? Or do you think without that carrot out there in front you would still pull the cart? Anet doesn’t want to have to design for the stallions of the world (like WoW), when they can gate their game progress so the stallions and the mules move at the same pace.

The only sad part about all this is the WvW content. That is the one place where the folks that don’t like PVE are going to start to feel at a more significant disadvantage as time goes on. They feel obligated to PVE or they are going to get less powerful as time goes on. Of course they will eventually release some from of asceded items to WvW, but it won’t be badges. It will be some other type of currency you can’t quickly farm. I bet you can guess why.

Well, I use mine for the infusion upgrades and the bags at the moment, when I get closer to actually work on my Legendary, I will probably go for the skill points, as other posters have pointed out.

This is me as a player and my opinion, yours might differ.

I used mine for obsidian shards for my legendary and used my saved karma on the orrian jewel boxes and banked some serious coin and loadstones.

Obsidian Shards or skill points, basically. I’m surprised they haven’t done more with Shards to be honest, there’s a lot of potential for them as a forge component as a compliment to skill points.

But I’d bet on those two, they both have a lot of potential for long term value.

The jewel boxes also return obsidian shards with some fair regularity. Certainly more often than lodestones. If you have indeed done what you claimed you do, you wouldn’t have wasted any other resources on obsidian shards.

Will do bags, then shards, then skill points to make more gold. The karma saved will be used to try get a return from jewelry boxes. One of the few currencies that you can liquidate in more ways even with just a few. Unlike dungeons where you need quite alot to get the exotic to use it, but then its a nice content gateway for some of the awesome skins it provides.

We need to buy fractal skins with them! The daily pristine relics at least, add shards or w/e but please add them already.

@ heinel.

Got 250 using the relics (needed for one of the gifts) then the orrian boxes provided he mext 230ish i needed for the clovers (ended with about 7 remaining 0.o).

In the end cleaned out about 20 spaces of relics, about 10 charged lodestones and a shiny new juggernaut.

Also note I had already had the boxes for all my characters so it worked out perfectly.

Here’s a novel idea; if they are currency treat them as such and give them a tracker next to our silver and gold vice wasting multiple inventory locations.

I’m saving mine for the backpack and upgrading it. Both of those together requires about 1850 relics and I’m very close. I’m surprised noone else has mentioned this which makes me wonder if this isn’t a good idea?

if you have an excess there are a lot of useful things to spend them on.

In order of what I deem most important to least

1. fractal backpiece
2. 20 slot bag
3. skill points
4. obsidian shards

This is just my opinion though some people don’t like/want a fractal back and don’t care for 20 slot bags, regardless though skillpoints are always useful.

The real issue is Pristine Fractal Relics. They need to add additional ascended items to the list of things you can purchase with them.

What you do is create a level 1 character and store hundreds of useless tokens on him. That’s all you can do…

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.
