I have 17 kittenty pieces of kittenty exotic Soldiers gear. You cant salvage them, vendor them, sell them, or mystic forge them. What the kitten am I supposed to do with a bunch of kitten gear, kitten trinkets, all with kitten stats? This isnt a “gift”, this is trash. Why cant I just salvage this crap?

if you salavage it, you would be able to mae a good sum of gold out of it.
Multiply your possible win with that of every other player and voila, you got your reason.

If you don`t need it, trash it. That`s what I did.

Btw. it is just part of the gift and not everything. So be grateful for the acount item slot and all the other nice loot you propably got.

I hate all gear that can’t be salvaged or sold, even if the resulting mats or coin would be trash tier I’d rather exchange this stuff for something over nothing.

Something like karma gear etc. is bit different because it can be avoided easily, but most of the stuff you get from HoT story for instance I still got collecting dust because destroying anything seems like such a waste.

For now, I am probably just not going to use the boost at all as a result. I might make an alt out if it someday. Shame really, for that wasted free shared slot….

We’re not allowed horses in this game. You’ll have to reference the gift frog instead.

That’s not entirely true… there’s at least a half of a gift horse, as evidenced by this gw2 wiki photo.

I think there should be a saying about what kind of horse you gift.

Anyway, what I did was use the boost on an empty character slot to get my key farmer for the week. Then I deleted the after getting a black lion key.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Soldiers gear is probably the best gear for a new player to learn in.

If you aren’t new, you will have the resources to replace it.

It could have been Shamans.

I’ve yet to receive a ‘freebee" piece of exotic armor that wasn’t crap. I just delete them.

The FREE exotic gear EVERYONE is getting via the boost is there so you people who DONT HAVE 3 ascended armor sets and a bunch of ascended trinkets and back pieces to use so they can get better gear with it on their brand new character.

You cant complain about free stuff that everyone who has hot and who will buy hot will get, seriously. If its bothering you that you cant profit out of the free 14-15 pieces of FREE lvl 80 exotics then just delete them and get your legendary twighlight up with your ascended armor on your char from the bank.

The gift is an instant level 80 character.

The equipment is there for the primary audience, which is new players who don’t already have a level 80, much gold or any equipment. It would be pretty terrible if Anet boosted them to level 80 and then encouraged them to go off into the HoT maps (or Silverwastes) in their starter gear.

If you don’t need it you can just delete it. Just like the stuff you’d get from the level-up rewards if you did it the regular way.

You should be able to mystic forge them – you certainly can with the later armor you get in your level up chests.

If you cant that’s a tad tight fisted rally…

Learn how to bloody read, people. I dont care that I got free stuff. I care that I cant DO anything with it. Cant vendor it for 10 copper, cant forge it, cant TP it, cant NOTHING. A couple ectos isnt going to break the economy, at least make the kitten salvagable.

A couple ectos for every single existing player all at the same time would absolutely break the economy.

The point of those items isn’t for you, or me, or anyone with one or more geared 80s that can just buy another set of exotics with no problem.

That gear is for people who lapsed at L20 years ago, or brand new players using a handful of level up/heart gear.

You know, so that when they use their L80 boost they can actually immediately use that L80 character to farm up money for better gear.

To be fair, ANet could have offered a copper per item — that wouldn’t break the bank and would allow people to get rid of the gear more quickly, since nearly everyone will either grow out of soldier’s or already have something that suits them better.

However, despite the inconvenience, I think it was a great freebie and one they should consider offering to veterans again, under appropriate circumstances.
