It’s much easier to play with our skins now with the addition of the account wardrobe. However, now we transmute everything, and can’t salvage OR mystic forge transmuted items. I know I can use an extractor to grab the runes/sigils, but I don’t want to have to destroy exotics or ascended items – I’d rather toss them in the forge for a chance at a precursor or something.

What do we do in this scenario? Changing skins is great, but it basically is the same thing as destroying an item.

I’m pretty sure I’ve salvaged some of my transmuted gear. Maybe you are confusing gear bought with Karma, Badges or such with transmuted gear. Not sure.

Transmuting is not the issue, it is how you acquired the gear in the first place. Like what the person before me said.

Transmuting will account bind it (if it wasn’t already account/soul bound) but it doesn’t prevent you from salvaging it.

There are however a number of items which cannot be salvaged, even if you’d just bought them and hadn’t transmuted them, equipped them or anything else. Mainly anything bought with karma or badges of honour and also some of the items awarded for levelling up or doing the personal story.

I’ve noticed that just about everything that can’t be salvaged, or sold to a vendor, has to be either chucked into the Mystic Toilet, or destroyed. The only exception I’ve seen so far is the “Hero’s Band” (ring). That one has to be destroyed.

Hmm thanks for the info – I’ll try to nail down how the gear was acquired originally.

Could have been acquired via badges like mentioned above.
